It's my 30th birthday on Sunday. We're going into the city and I have plans to go out dancing with my friends. I had plans to get all fancy and do my make up and feel damn good about coasting into my 30s. And now I have poison ivy.
ON MY FUCKING EYELIDS.
Fuck yard work, I'm never weeding again.
UPDATE:
So remember last night when you all were like "go to urgent care and get steroids!" and I was all "Nah, I bet it'll be fine! It doesn't seem that bad!"
Well LOL.
I might actually cry, guys. I'm suppose to be getting my hair done today and we have a babysitter for tonight so we can go to our fiend's concert, we have a hotel room already booked for tomorrow night, we told the kids we were going to the zoo and seeing Ollie's BFF from our old neighborhood, my friends are driving in to meet up at a beer garden that night, and H's parents are taking us to dinner Sunday night. Fuck.
FUCK.
I still don't feel terrible. Will the steroids help take down the swelling quickly? Please tell me there's a chance I can still make this weekend happen.
That sounds miserable! Is there any chance it will clear up before Sunday? (I know nothing about poison ivy. I don't know that I've seen it in real life.)
You youngsters are so cute. But seriously I'm sorry. That's horrible. I had poison ice on my face senior year and had to postpone my senior picture because I was a mess. I also had to take oral steroids to get rid of it. I hate poison ivy.
H had a nasty case of poison ivy that got near his eyes so he got a steriod (shot, I think). He's super allergic to poison ivy so gets it every now and then. The steroid cleared it up soooo much faster than usual.
It was a bit swollen this morning, then it got better, then I itched, now it's worse : (
I just realized what it was. I thought maybe it was my allergies. But then I was like "Oh hey, what's his spot on my jaw line? And behind my ear?" And my girlfriend was like "Have you been weeding lately?" And I go "yesterday, why do you as-OH MY GOD ITS POISON"
I'm still going out. I'll cover this shit up with makeup. I don't even care.

I'm thinking about trying to get in to the doc early tomorrow- who did he see? A gp or a derm?

He went to urgent care. I was freaking out when it got near his eyes. I cannot imagine how uncomfortable it must be for you on your eyelids.
I second (third?) the steroids. Even with steroids poison ivy takes forever to clear.
I'm super allergic and had it bad in seventh grade and right after we moved in to our house. Both times it was January. I got it from the vines. I no longer do yard work either.

I think I must not be too terribly allergic, because I've located the offending vine in our yard and I remember tugging on it yesterday with bare hands. I must have immediately itched my eyes (stupid seasonal allergies) but I don't have it anywhere else except my face.
Make haste to buy some Tecnu or Zanfel poison ivy scrub. It will make it feel better, and will also clear away any oils that might still be on your skin (be careful with it near your eyes, of course).

Okay, well now I'm just trying not to be jealous of your miraculous rhino skin.
I'm also crazy allergic. I got it on my face once without even touching it. The steroids help although for me they always started to dissolve immediately and taste awful no matter how quick I swallow them. I'm also jealous of ur resistance although I know how awful it must be. I actually end up on steroids for any allergic reaction so clearly my body's just a bitch.

Yeah, the last episode, the rash started behind my right ear, traveled across my face, down my chest, both arms and legs. I was out of work for a week because I was not fit for public consumption. And after it mostly cleared, we must have missed cleaning up the oils somewhere because u had a new breakout in my arms and legs. In all it took about 6-8 weeks to clear. Blech.
Hopefully it clears up for you soon. Sorry your fabulous birthday makeup plans were ruined.

Go to the drugstore and get Zanfel. It's in a tube, the packaging is silver and green with a 3 small pictures of a boy on the front. The best $50 I ever spent. DD2 got it about 1.5 months ago - steroid shots, 5 days of the steroids, and every other topical and histamine did nothing. It is safe to use on the face, I used it on hers. Her eyes were swollen shut and it was all over her face and a bit on her neck.
