I don't understand. What was he supposed to do that would have kept the officer from shooting? How could the officer have possibly justified his choice of action? At first, I wondered how she could have stayed calm while her boyfriend was dying next to her and she was unable to get medical aid for him, until I realized of course she must have also been scared for her life and the life of her daughter.
This situation was so benign, and yet it ended in death. Terrifying. I don't know what to do.

When will enough be enough?
We have a man running for president that will likely praise the police officers for doing such a heinous thing under the guise that they are "doing their job," we have black men (and women) being gunned down everywhere in the country by civilians and police officers, and we have people being massacred for their religion or sexual preference. We have moved so far backward from where we should be.
How do we stop this madness? How do we fight for the freedom of POC to walk down the road without being in fear that they may be killed by the very people hired to protect them?
I honestly feel nauseated. And the chorus of "well if he had just done what he was told to do" will start, except that HE FUCKING WAS. He was getting the paperwork, and he told them that he had a legal weapon and informed them of the weapon and his permit, AND THEY STILL FUCKING MURDERED HIM.
You know, seeing these videos, however utterly horrific they are, is just what we need. We are seeing these men die. I am so thankful these brave bystanders are posting this stuff, and that we have a medium that won't censor it for us to protect our lily white world of denial, because it's showing us the brutality in black and white. I am gutted seeing these. This isn't about my feelings - but I am absolutely haunted by the fact that this has been going on forever. These cops knew they had body cameras and that there were passengers and bystanders with video and it was still this bad. I keep thinking about the scores of black men that have been killed, gone missing, been brutalized who never had a chance. Never had a voice. Their families left broken. It's just so awful and unfair.
I haven't watched the video yet because my kids are right here (I'm all for educating them on these things, but I need to choose a better time to start the conversation than 20 minutes before I leave for work so that the conversation can be meaningful instead of rushed) but I was in tears just reading the article.
This is not fucking ok. I don't know how we fix it, but it needs fixed desperately. No one should have to be afraid of the police for fucks sake. "To protect and serve" means EVERY-FUCKING-BODY. Everyone.
I don't know what to say, but I know staying silent isn't the answer.
The other thing is, based on the videos we've seen (Michael Brown, Alton Sterling and this) why is no one helping them when they are shot? They've all been just left there like wounded animals. Aren't police supposed to administer life-saving measures, ESPECIALLY if the victim is clearly still living (here and Alton). This man just had an arm wound, couldn't a tourniquet have saved his life?
After the shooting in Orlando it was all "if only more people had been carrying guns." And now it's "well, he shouldn't have been carrying a gun." Which is it? Or is it the only people who should be carrying guns are white?

But there are no issues of racism in this country. And conceal and carry is the way to go, don't take away our guns, unless you black because that will just give them another excuse to kill you.
I'm fucking sick. I have 3 African American nephews and I'm legit scared for them. I have had it.
Wow. That is absolutely horrible. He would have been damned if he didn't tell them he was licensed and now he is dead because he told them. This has got to stop.

Yes. This.
There was a tweet that stated the same thing that's going around and every time I read it I shake my head.
Oh gee, no surprise, we haven't heard anything from the fucking NRA on this yet.
If a white man had been killed after stating he had a legally-owned gun on him, they would be up in fucking arms by now ranting on the war on guns, etc.
I guess "good guy with a gun" is code for "white guy with a gun."

I can't watch it but I feel like I should because I would hope that it leaves everyone shocked and outraged that this is happening all the damn time, and motivate people to demand change.

Police injuring people and then expecting everyone to stand back without rendering aid bothers me enormously. It feels inhumane. The police aren't helping, his girlfriend is not allowed to help him. Since when do we let anyone bleed out in public without public officers even attempting aid? They have his gun. Even if police somewhow felt he was A risk to their safety before, now he's a bleeding, dying, unarmed citizen and yet they do nothing.
