I don't know about you, His, but in PR, nicknames come organically, and are not as common as they are in the US. Unsure if it's the same in Mexico.
In PR, a Christina (Cristina) would go by Christina
Never mind that later she'll evolve into something diametrically different like Papu or Tane or Chachi, but Christina or Abigail would be usually what they're referred to always. And of course, the nick name that my grandmother had for me is very different than the one my mom has for me, and different than the one that my aunts/uncles call me. Seriously. VERY different, and somewhat nonsensical in combination.

Kiki was my college bar name when we wanted to remain anonymous among other ppl/ dudes. My GF & I had pseudonym mainstays for such occasions; mine was Kiki. HTH..?
