Just found out that apparently my boyfriend's mum has to go on to dialysis. She's 75 and a type 2 diabetic. I guess they had been monitoring her blood work for the past several years but now it's time to go on dialysis.
I've only met her once and she hasn't been to the states in awhile, but we had talked about his whole family coming over here in the next couple of years. I know dialysis can be arranged if you travel to different cities but coming from overseas I doubt that'd be possible due to insurance.

kicks I'm sorry to hear about your boyfriend's mom. It's so hard on not only the dialysis patient, but on the caregivers and family. My dad has end stage renal failure and has been on dialysis for 6 years. He has traveled a few times and we've been able to make advanced arrangements for where he is going, but it takes a lot of advance work. He did travel back to India once and the center here did work with the hospital there once I passed on their information, but he had to pay out of pocket. Since it was the US to India, it wasn't excessively cost prohibitive, but it wasn't cheap either, so I am not sure if that's an option for your BF's mom coming to the states.
Also, thank you to the ACA, my boyfriend has health insurance. Since he is self-employed he neglected going to the doctor for many years. I know people complain about their premiums going up but ACA has given a lot of people access to care they wouldn't otherwise get.
I became "that" girlfriend after we started dating and made him get health insurance. He eats relatively healthy but is overweight. At his first visit it was found he had elevated blood pressure and in the pre-diabetic range. He has since bought a treadmill, works out regularly, started drinking less and follows up regularly with his doctor. His blood pressure is now normal and his HA1C hasn't gone up and he's lost weight.
Genetics suck. I'm sure if he would've never gone to the doctor he'd be diabetic in a few years and down the path to dialysis. Htn and diabetes are such silent killers it's scary.
So psa if you haven't been to the doctors in awhile

Thanks for weighing in. That's great that your dad was able to go to India. If it came down to it hopefully we could arrange something here eventually.
I want to go to this spin class but i am scared/worried that because I am fat and horribly unfit ppl will laugh at me.
Please go if you really want to. People will be busy paying attention to whatever they are doing and not paying attention to you. I know there are catty women out there but don't let that stop you from doing something you want to do.
Nothing makes me want to throw things more than when I pin curl my hair because I think I'm in for the day and then I decide to go out after all. Arrrrggggghhhhhhhh!

Like when my father would decide we were gonna eat out on days only half my braids were done.
This is random, but skwcm80 do you also do triathlons?
I need some advice from you and @kirkette !
I don't, just my daughter. Kirkette is your woman.
kicks do you have a race in mind? I admire triathletes, but i have a weird hang up about biking that I can't shake, so I stick to running.
I did some research last month. There are a few races in late May/early June next year that I think would work in PA, NJ or NY.
Yeah biking def isn't my thing. I really wish I could do another marathon, however my knees have been bothering me for the past couple of years 2 years ago I was going to do my 3rd marathon but dropped it to the half after I couldn't get any longer runs in due to my knees and this random numbness I get. I got an MRI last year that didn't show anything and the doctor had no other advice, but I didn't really follow up.
One of the docs at my hospital seems like a great sports med doc so I think I'm going to try to make an appointment with her (although I never get out of work in time, grr). So I think doing triathlons is my itch to challenge myself.
I will only be biking on the path near my house. Hell no to biking throughout the city with crazy ass drivers.

I had the sweetest green beans I have ever had in my life today. School had a function today, and my guess, is that they were canned beans and they tried to tone down the salt and went overboard.
I thought of this board when I ate my first bite and knew I had to post this. A little sugar is alright, I put a smidge of brown sugar in my vegetarian greens, but sweet green beans, NO.
Lord this hasn't happened in a while but it drives me nuts every damn time. Just dropped off DS2 at his preschool and one of the ladies asked me where I'm from. I said CT and she said oh I meant your nationality. ::blank stare::

All the time....."no, but where are you Really from?"
I'm sorry your day started with that annoyance. I also wonder Why they need to know. How does it change things for them?

Today at my sons bus stop this really chatty lady kept talking to me...then she's like so what's your background. I said ME and she's like oh omg I thought you were Italian? You look so European...that's a shock. Your face is so Greek.....then she continued to tell me how superior Sicilians are and how hot she was back in the day.
Ugh there is no avoiding her, I knew I should have pretended my English was poor.

I'm so glad I am not the only one who thinks of doing this to avoid conversation.
Also, I am sorry that happened. WTF is wrong with people? Between this and cubed's conversation, people have lost their damned mind. Or they are from MMM and since they can't post their nonsense there, they say it in real life.

I should send her to the board, she needs to listen and learn.
My sister did the drop off two days ago and told me some crazy lady kept asking her if she was Albanian, she also told her she thinks there are too many Indians on our block. My sisters like all those people over there are trinis...she's all oh, what is that

<- that is really what I just looked like. So much ignorance. Now I want to show up at your bus stop just to make this lady uncomfortable.
I have intense resting bitch face so few people ask me anything. Even Sebastian will look at me and say "are you happy or mad mommy?" Lol
Smile!
My brs is pretty strong too. I try looking extra pissed too to ensure that no one speaks to me. I've rolled my eyes and walked away before too, but sometimes the morons trap you and there is nowhere to run.
I just posted a thing on CEP about Jay-z's short file on the war on drugs. I was gonna cross post to here but figured most of you would see it there anyway.

I'm excited for you. Maybe one day I'll get over myself and do a tri.
I'm sorry about your knees, marathons do a number on your body. I try to limit myself to one a year. Well this year I'm running 2 but it's still one training cycle.
I don't blame your for not biking in the city, I'd be terrified.
