This is coming from someone whose parents wouldn't let shave until 8th grade even though I BEGGED to shave earlier. It was embarrassing and kids were cruel. She's entering a very awkward age. Don't give her one more thing to feel insecure about.

I started shaving around 10 or 11. So I would let my imaginary kid shave if she wanted to.

I would, I don't think it's a big deal in the greater picture, but it's important enough to her to ask. And because first of all, she should know that she gets to make decisions about her own body, and second, because you want her to keep coming to you for advice about those decisions.

My daughter has been complaining about the hair on her legs for about a year - she had casts on both of them for 6 weeks in 2014 and the hair has stayed dark/thick. I've been saying that the next time she brings it up, we'll either talk about shaving or using Veet or something like that. She turned 9 in May.

She's never mentioned her underarms but I'm sure I'll just show her how at the same time as her legs.

I would. I had very dark, hairy legs and my mother didn't let me shave when I first wanted to. It was humiliating for me. I'll let my daughters shave whenever they express interest, probably.

I'm not a parent but I was a 10yo with underarm hair, a recently deceased biological mother, and a well meaning dad who had no clue. I went way too long being embarrassed about it when the solution was very simple.

My mom used to only give me a razor after my dad has used it a few times because she didn't want it to be extra sharp. (Don't do that.) But yes I would show her how to do it.

Yes. My mom wouldn't let me shave and I was teased horrendously as a kid because I am super hairy. I stole my brothers razor and shaved my arms because of it. Show her how.

I highly recommend Schick Intuition. The cartridges are pricey, but you don't need shaving cream, they don't irritate my seriously sensitive arm pits, and I've never cut myself with them.

I agree with everyone else. Id let her and I'd definitely show her how. My mom also made me wait even though she knew people made fun of me for my dark hair and it resulted in me trying to do it myself and I would up slicing my leg open (I realize you're talking about arm pits and I'm talking about legs but still).

I don't have kids but I would let her. Also an electric razor might pull the hair and be a bit painful. I would just use a regular razor.

I'd let her shave, and I'd make sure she had a nice razor with wires over the blades to do it. Show her how to store her razor too.

As a teen, I grabbed my dad's electric shaver to shave my pits and had THE WORST razor burn mess under my arms. I'm not sure what exactly happened, but it hurt like heck. So I've never used a shaver on my pits since.

Yes. I'm actually waiting for my DD to ask. She's certainly not shy about asking me things and knows one day she will shave. She's mentioned a few times about how much leg hair she has, so she's starting to notice but I don't think she cares yet.

Yes, absolutely. I'm not going to permit my daughter to be embarrassed over a something that is avoidable, but that I personally have an issue with. It is about her, not about me.

For sure. I asked my mom about shaving around that age (because a friend had started shaving) and she refused because I'm blonde. My friend was Asian, so Mom said she understood why she started shaving, but thought it was rigoddamneddiculous that I wanted to shave. (HELLO - blonde hair on tan skin is REALLY noticeable.)

Sure, part of it was just wanting to be cool and feel grown up like my friend. But that's a BIG part of life starting around that age and I was already struggling with being younger than my classmates (December birthday) and feeling like everyone was really starting to notice. I wanted to feel like I wasn't a baby. It was at least a year, I think closer to two years, before she let me shave.

I'm still not over it.

I would. Even at 35, my armpit hair is light and blond. I only shave it 1-2x week. You could even do it for her in the beginning. Gawd, growing up is so awkward.
