From what I've read and heard, Pence prob. won the short game but I'm inclined to believe Kaine won the long.
I think this is true. If you didn't watch it, and are just reading recaps of it and the like, a lot of reports are coming down pretty hard on Pence for the truth-dodging and blatant avoidance of defending Trump.
Kaine's interruptions really were annoying but again, if you didn't watch it, you won't have that negative impression, so your opinion of any quotes or transcripts will be different.
I was kind of bummed last night going to bed, thinking it was a Pence victory. This morning I'm less bummed. I still think Pence "won," but it wasn't like Hillary over Trump and I think Kaine forced Pence into some statements that will be fodder for Hillary's campaign for the next month.
I now think the reason Kaine didn't attack Pence was because they didn't want to create an opportunity for Pence to sell the religious right on the ticket.
I was annoyed last night while watching, but this morning, it's looking pretty brilliant.
Still haven't watched the last third, we watched a bit more when we got home last night but when it hit midnight I waved the white flag and surrendered to bed.
While I hated that ITK was interrupting all over the place, I agree that he did what he supposed and this will play well in the long run.

Yeah decimating Pence on his positions is kind of pointless with Trump at the top of the ticket. One, it allows Pence to appeal to evangelicals and get them excited for him and legitimize Trump (which might drive turnout) and two, it doesn't really hurt Trump. Anyone who prioritizes those issues is already not voting for that ticket and Pence's positions are well known for people who care about them. Making it about Pence is not worth it because Trump is so awful. It's not a situation where McCain was seen a certain way and having Palin right behind him was a negative. Pence is sadly a positive comparatively.
I am also tired of reading about how Hillary is lucky trump is the R nominee. Pence looked fine last night because he could lie and he's not the candidate. If he was, he'd be decimated on his insane, terrible policies. The focus of the campaign would be different. He wouldn't be getting some sort of "at least he's not Trump" free pass.
Remember when Carolyn got fired as an Apprentice co-host because she started getting too popular? Crybaby Donny can't handle sharing the spotlight.
Is THAT what happened to her?? I watched it for the first few seasons and I always wondered what happened to her.
does anyone remember how one time, after Omarosa got fired, she went on a late night talk show (I think Letterman but cant remember) and was asked if she was intimidated by Trump because he is such a "presence" and "personality."
And she was like, no, I worked for Bill Clinton, now that is a REAL presence, so someone like Trump doesn't intimidate me. The implication was very clear that Clinton > trump.
I'm so frustrated by people saying Pence won because of his demeanor or composition. The substance of his statements were demonstrably false--just look at the HRC video above! How does style matter more than content?!?
My co-worker only listened to the debate, and while the interruptions annoyed her, she thought it was a slam dunk for Kaine.

I know Nate Silver would agree with that. From the debate live blog: Another thought: I think Pence is doing a better job of executing his strategy, which is basically just to pirouette around any time he’d have to defend Trump. Whereas Kaine is swinging at a lot of pitches but not really following through. So judged on the basis, I’d give it to Pence, so far.
But I’m not sure that it’s a great strategy, because I think Pence’s nonresponsiveness could make for some good commercials for Clinton’s team in Brooklyn after the debate. So Pence could be setting himself up to win the actual debate but lose the post-debate debate.
