It was really smart to close the parks. It was a hazard to have people in them, with all of the decor and set pieces that can go flying. My Cousin is down there. She is in a rental house in Groveland and is at Universal today.
I would be renting a car and making a run for it. That storm is SCARY looking.
My SIL and her H and her six-month-old are there. I am relieved that they are in one of the hotels that is all one building so it will be easier to get food and stretch their legs and not be cooped up in a little hotel room all day!
I mean this is the 4th time since 1971 that they have closed Disney World. 1999 for Hurricane Floyd. 9/11 and then in 2002 for a massive power failure.
Someone on my Disney Facebook group is all "where can I eat tomorrow?" Like lady, priorities!
That's not totally flammable - I mean you've got to eat? I can only imagine being stuck in a room with my kids for a day without food. I would imagine you'd have to go buy food today and keep it in your room so you have options tomorrow. Even at the WL or AKL with internal hallways I doubt the restaurants will be fully staffed/stocked.

That's a good point. I went back to the post to see what else was said and it seems like last time something like this happened they had "hurricane bags" full of food for sale and called each room to tell them when the food court was back open and then there was a mad dash. That was back in 2004 so I'm sure things are a little more updated by now with technology.

They are selling kits right now at Disney with a sandwich, fruit, chips and dessert for $12.99 at resorts.
My friends are there right now. They've been posting about their trip a lot on FB, but nothing yet in the past few hours.
My friend sent me a text about 2 hours ago and it was raining so hard you couldn't see. Hopefully it's died down enough that people can all get to their rooms.
We relocated this morning from the cabins at Fort Wilderness to a family suite at AOA. There are lots of people leaving, but lots of people hanging in there. We already had groceries and water at the cabin so we are pretty set. The hubby just came up with two box lunches per person for tomorrow and said they didn't cost anything. So instead of going to the Magic Kingdom, my babies will spend their first birthday tomorrow riding out a hurricane. It's fitting.

I'm glad they didn't charge you! Stay safe! You'll have a crazy first birthday story to tell.
we have family there but they got a rental care earlier today and are on their way out...stay safe RandZB,...won't THIS be quite the birthday story to tell later?!

I gotta rant about the crazies on disboards. I just checked the disboards and THE BITCHING about the 12.99 boxes is INSANE. Everyone is yelling about price gouging and the fact that the hurricane was " exaggerated" to get their money.....
Uhm FIRST of all I cannot get that meal here for 12.99. My sandwich from the place on the corner is 10.00. I couldn't get it with chips and a cookie and fruit for 12.99.
Second OMG you are at Disney you were going to have to eat today anyways... I mean how were you going to spend less than 13.00 per a person a lunch at Disney??
Third - HOLY CRAP PEOPLE you KNEW the storm was coming... All resort stores and restaurants were operational until 10pm last night. You could have easily grabbed other stuff a la cart and brought it up to the room. You could have ordered groceries to be delivered a few days ago... you could have ubered to Walmart or Target.... I mean no one was twisting your arm and forcing you to eat the boxed lunch.
People are saying that the price should have been 5.00!! WTAF?? Who pays 5.00 for a full lunch? Also if it was 5.00 people would have bought 2-3 times what they needed and left others without because HUMANS SUCK and would have been like "Oooooh Bargain TIME TO HOARD".
I am here but not checking into Disney til Saturday night. We arrived Thursday evening in Tampa and tried to find a hotel there instead of Orlando, but no luck so we headed over as the weather wasn't bad. We are staying at the Marriot Village by downtown Disney. We grabbed some drinks and food in Tampa. They told us to keep the curtains drawn and they would keep people indoors if dangerous. They had the usual free breakfast this morning which was good as everything was rightly closed. We decided to head to my parents for the day around 11 as the weather was okay and just got back to the hotel. A lot of the closed non-Disney hotels are open for dinner, half and half. All are packed. I ended up driving over to Publix and getting some lunch meet for sandwiches for dinner. They opened at 3.
We were originally planning to go to the Halloween party tonight but my mom couldn't handle being out late. Because we flew into Tampa (I hate Orlando airport) we weren't eligible to cancel flights.
We were supposed to leave Thursday for our first ever trip but obviously cancelled. We will be there closer to Halloween now. Suggestions or recommendations?
