Congratulations! I mostly lurk and I've read about your job. My husband is stuck at an AWFUL place and this gives me hope lol! I'm so glad you are getting out of there!
I know he doesn't want to move, and I know he really doesn't want to live apart until next summer, so this should be interesting.
Oh gosh, that does throw a wrench into the plan. Why can't he move until next summer? Surely he wants you to be happier though, so hopefully he won't be quite as rigid as this. Good luck!

He has a contract for this academic year.
We are talking. I think he's coming around. But I guess it's a good sign that he doesn't want to live apart, right?
Also, he's scared of change and doesn't want to leave MKE. I knew this when I married him. So none of this is shocking.

Yay! Do the next 9 mths apart and by then, you may have found something where you can transfer...maybe? It is a tough decision. How much do you see your H through the week anyway? Seeing him on the weekend only may not be a huge change besides the warm bed? Such a tough decision.

Harpy, I am so, so, so happy to read this. You are a smart, amazing woman and I knew that something would come your way soon.
Good luck with your decision.
I don't know if you remember back this long ago, but like 3-4 years ago I was really miserable with my job, our housing situation, etc. I got the job I have now, and I basically had a weekend to decide if we were going to take the plunge and move out of state. Now, granted my out of state move was only like a 90 minute move, and my H is luckily still able to commute to his same job (and he works from home 2-3 days/week) - but it was the best decision I ever made.
My two cents - accept the DC job, book a flight to DC for next Wednesday, walk out of your current job at 9am tomorrow, and then go to the interview on Thursday. I know its really poor form, but if the local job pans out, you can always back out of the fed job (not that I would recommend that). It happens.
Heck, we had someone work for 2 months and then she got another offer 2 grades higher at another agency. She was working both jobs at the same time and we came through before she heard from us first. 2 months later, the other one finally came through. Although it was annoying, we all understood/
