Man. I mean, just thinking about HRC's campaign and really, the whole DNC, how do you essentially fight a foreign power who wants to see your opponent in power and is willing to turn its formidable intelligence resources to doing that? What can the strategy possibly be for dealing with that, with fake news and propaganda that originates outside the country and not even with your opponent and his party, plus the hacks? Because if Russia has done it once and seen it go their way, they're not going to stop.
It would be easier if they were actually hacking voting machines. But I don't even think they needed to.
I think the DNC/HRC's biggest strategic error was underestimating the collective, willful stupidity of the country.
This sounds like good news to me, which makes me very sad.
Ok, Eichenwald, I am going to need some sort of signal about whether you have an actual basis for this statement or whether this is just the positive affirmation you are going to say when you wake up every morning in an effort not to lapse into a permanent state of anxiety, stress, and depression. If the latter, let us know if it works -- I could use something that does.
This sounds like good news to me, which makes me very sad.
I'm not sure Trump would hate that. He could bellyache, it'd give him great fodder to make money and talk about on Trump TV for a few months, and, more importantly, he wouldn't actually have to do any work.

Do any of you watch the show based on the movie "Home"? It is on Netflix. The Boov Oh is elected leader of the Boovs and his first speech is as follows: "My first act as leader will be to resign as your leader".
Trump doing this would not surprise me in the least. He would claim the presidency is beneath him, or it is "for the country", and he could sit around for the rest of his life talking about what a tremendous president he would have been and was for saving a country divided by Obama.
This sounds like good news to me, which makes me very sad.
My question is what will be done to ensure that whatever ball Trump got rolling with Russia doesn't become any bigger and flatten us all to death. Who knows what leaked info Russia already has on us, or deals that were made -- can that be controlled, and by impeaching Traitor, stopped altogether, or is it too late? Was Pence in on any of this?
The one thing that would genuinely shock me at this point is if it came out that Pence was involved. I am not totally informed on him, but he just doesn't strike me as a guy who would go along with this. I mean, unless they've got incredible dirt on him too.
ETA: You know what? Scratch that. I've been just as wrong about everything as most everyone else this year.

Pence doesn't strike me as a guy who is all that bright. So, not a guy who would go along with this. But also not a guy who has any inkling of the implications of this.
This thread is NOT helping my anxiety levels. My sister is en route to Moscow, as I "speak." Work trip (NGO - conflict resolution in Syria). Fortunately she is FAR more diplomatic than I am.

NY times article
This makes it sound Russia started out with just trying to undermine the credibility of the election and over time changed into directly trying to harm Clinton.
* Trump's followers have been alienating/turning away from their families. Choosing instead to "Make America Great Again". Becoming mistrustful of anyone they suspect might be a "liberal" or under the influence of HRC.
*Trump's followers have been cautioned against believing news/media sources. They are being told that any negative information about Trump is a lie and is sabotage by the "Left" and/or by "HRC".
*Trump's followers have been told that they are the special ones. They are the true Americans, they are the most deserving, they are the victims, they are the hardest working, and in the end, they will be the victors.
*Trump's followers are being promised a future paradise, where all of their dreams and wishes will come true. As long as they elect him to be their leader and they do what he tells them to do, right now.
*Trump's followers have been willfully overlooking all evidence of Trump's deceptions/hypocrisy/bullshit because they want that paradise they were promised.
*Trump's followers have been told that it's either "us or them" and no in between. That the "others" want to take from them what they have and they need to fight to protect it. That the "others" have already stolen from them what was rightfully theirs in the first place, and they need to fight to get it back.
*Trump's followers have acted out in anger, violence, and even worse imo, in pride, in order to "claim what's theirs", with Trump's blessing.
*Trump's followers are now betraying their own self-proclaimed morals/patriotism/nationalism by willfully overlooking the fact that an enemy country has pretty much invaded our government via Trump.

I don't think Pence is an idiot. He's educated from a liberal arts school and has a law degree, though both are from middle-of-the-road schools. He seems sheltered as hell (was genuinely shocked when Hoosiers revolted against his RFRA legislation,) but, I don't think he's evil. He's a moderately bright ideologue. How about this- I think he's an idiot, but he's not dumb. I also tend to think that he's genuinely patriotic. I imagine this Russia stuff is freaking him the fuck out.

Eh I don't know. I don't think he was involved, especially because it predates his involvement in the campaign, but I am not sure about the rest of this.
I mean, anyone with two brain cells to rub together could have figured this out. The information is not exactly new, it's just further confirmation of well-founded suspicions.
So Pence is either a total moron who ignored obvious warning signs and is now freaking out, or he's moderately intelligent and is just completely indifferent to what's going on.
I'm not sure which it is. But I don't but this "intelligent and in the dark" theory, and more importantly, I think it's dangerous because it lets Pence off the hook for failing to see the writing on the wall.

I'm of the opinion that even if Pence didn't know specifically about this, he still chained himself to an unhinged shit pig and is therefore guilty by association even if not by action. Sleep with dogs, wake up with fleas.

And here is the issue with there being no news sources that the right will consider legitimate. My brother is still FB friends with some #45 voters. But they are all government types and outside of Congress believe what they say. So I don't see how they can ignore this unless they are taking the Fox News stance.
The hypocrisy of liberals needing to read other news, but they don't have to kills me.
The WaPo has a top story that states the FBI is "not sold on Russia meddling". That's probably all certain people need as justification for ignoring the issue.

It is not unusual for the FBI and CIA to not agree. So I guess this will be another issue of who do you believe. We will never be able to have a fact again.
ETA:Either way, I would expect a statement from a PEOTUS to be that while we believe that any investigation would result in the same outcome, we as a country will not stand for any interference in our political system and way of life. I would not expect the response to be "move on." And I know I am preaching to the choir, but the hypocrisy of this. Because you know what the response would be in a reverse situation. And I would still be demanding the above response from that PEOTUS as well.

Well Comey did assist in covering this up so I'm not surprised the FBI is not sold on this.

And this is the scariest thing about a Trump presidency. Well, one of the scariest. It's all scary. But with other presidents I always felt like they were looking out for the country and giving us all the information they could. With #45 that's not true. He's looking out for himself only and I will have no idea what's fact and what's fiction. I will just assume every word he says is false and I will also assume the press is being silenced. Scary times.

YES.
They and he want power so much they don't care if it's illusory and courtesy of Russia. They're all petty, short sighted dictators. Republicans not actively speaking out in favor of looking into this and taking it seriously have forfeited their right to believe themselves to be patriots. Democrats too, obviously. But when you're in the party that won thanks to PUTIN, FOR THE LOVE, you have greater responsibility.

Can I just say if there is minimization and stalling and hem-hawing on doing some sort of Congressional investigation into thisbut the House Oversight committee jumps right back into hearings about Hillary's email server as Chaffetz said he intended to, I might finally and totally snap?

UM, is anybody else watching Reince Priebus on Meet the Press?!? Chuck is gonna LOSE IT 😦 He cannot answer a freaking question; he's denying evidence that hacking even fucking occurred b/c "the NYT article is based on a lie; the RNC was never hacked!" He's Crazy.
