I'm not going to make Platinum at Ulta for next year unless I place a ~$100 order tomorrow. It's tempting but I'm feeling like I won't use it that much next year anyway. I really want to stick to what I already have.
I'm going to try not to buy backups of things and just wait until I'm absolutely sure I'm almost out. A lot of times it's just to take advantage of a sale that only saves me a few dollars and I'd rather just have fresher products.

i need to do this and take time to use what i have better before buying new. then i got almost 100 bucks of sephora gift cards and that kills my motivation since it's not really my money, lol.
I sort of am. It's more that I have products that I love in most categories of my make up. I'm perfectly fine using up my one concealer before buying another or using up my pressed powder etc. Lipsticks and eye shadows are my weaknesses and I won't stop buying what I like but I'm more aware of colors I already have and avoiding buying duplicates.
Also I'm at a point where I want to start jumping into a few luxury products. So I'd like to use up products I have and replace with a luxury item here and there.
I've kind of been here for a while, which is why I don't participate as much on this board as I thought I would. I used to be part of a makeup forum in the past and I definitely spent more than I needed to and didn't use things up. I'm realizing that I prefer to have a limited range of products for everyday. That does still include an ungodly number of lipstick options. I think I typically have at least 4-5 options in my purse at any time.

I used to spend a lot on makeup, but have scaled down over the years. I have a feeling it's going to go up again this year. I didn't work in 2016 and now I'll be going to school and volunteering. Yay for makeup.
I definitely am. But like a pp said I want to include a couple luxury items along with my normals. I need new face cream and yesterday I decided to go through my samples. I probably have at least 2-3 months worth of samples for cleansers, face cream, and other treatments. My plan is to use all my samples as much as I can.
I will say though that ulta 5x is burning a hole in my pocket. It I can resist

I want to say yes, but IDK. I guess I kind of did scale back most of this year. It wasn't until I went back to work this fall that I started wearing makeup again after a very long break.
I'm more thoughtful with what I choose, I suppose.

Yes. I lost Rouge for 2017 (pretty sure I made VIB). But my best make up friend still has it. So during the two sales next year, I'll have her order for me so I can stock up on necessities. I just don't have the disposable income anymore.

It's my plan even thoughI made both Platinum and Rouge for 2017. As of right now I don't need or want anything so i'm hoping to scale back and only buy refills. I have a gc to Sephora that I will probably use to buy something "fun" when the spring stuff starts arriving.

I think my buying may change. I am close to 2000 points at Ulta. I do plan to take advantage of the free stuff when I hit 2K points. But I think I'll be looking more at skin care than makeup. I have so many palettes, I have a great lipstick collection, I don't really need more for the most part -- but I love the makeup that I have and I don't really want to give any of it up/destash. I just want to get back to playing around with it more so I'm enjoying what I have.
I got a bunch of Sephora GCs for Christmas and I'm having fun with those. And man, the skin care sets and products are as expensive or more than the makeup I typically buy, so I may not necessarily spend less.

I am sort of in the opposite camp lol. I have always worn makeup but haven't really taken an interest in it, if that makes sense. I have pretty much been using the same products for years (obviously buying more when they run out). This is the first time I am really experimenting with new products and I'm having fun! I definitely have to keep the spending in check though, since I just dropped around $90 at Ulta this week alone on only a few products. I'll probably start asking for makeup products as gifts going forward, especially the "fun" stuff like trying out new shadows or lip colors.

I can guarantee it will be more. I just really started to get into the high end products. After years of using only drug store I'm kinda going crazy. My list is long currently!
I didn't hit rouge for 2017 for the first time in several years. I did hit platinum and will continue to keep most of my spending at Ulta because of their rewards program. I am trying to be more picky about my spending and only trying products that are really different than what I already have or are holy grail status. I don't need another sheer pinky nude colored lipstick, I already have 5+.

Yes I did this in 2016. Spent maybe $50 at Sephora this year or less. I did make platinum at ulta and focused there (and natural beauty). I will continue that this year too, use up what I have and just try to replace what I need (minus a couple of fun items)
I loved saving points at ULTA for end of year spending. Will likely do that again this year

This is pretty much where I am.
I imagine I will still pick up a bit of makeup here and there (few things bring me joy quite like a new Bite lipstick), but I like my stash and feel like I've reached Peak Makeup. But I will probably spend heavily on skin care, because I love it. And Sephora has fun stuff.
I am planning on depotting a few palettes. I have some that I like the shadows, but don't use because they don't work well as standalone palettes. I think I can make my collection feel new again if if I rearrange things. Then I can use Ulta points to pick up singles that fill in holes and make my collection more useable.
Also H also loves Jack Black body wash, so that alone can get me halfway to Platinum. Picking up razors, sunscreen, and other necessities during point promos will get me the rest of the way there.

I tried to do this last year and I did not make rouge at Sephora for 2017, but made platinum at ulta. There is really nothing I need and I'm going to focus on using things I have and tossing old products. I'll still buy fun things here and there, but I think not having free shipping at Sephora will really cut down on impulse purchases.
I did a ton of destashing this year. I am swearing off due shadow palettes unless ABH comes out with a cooler toned palette and stick with buying singles since I noticed I only used a few colors out of each...except makeup revolution because they are dirt cheap and good quality.
I feel like I finally have a good base so I doubt I'll hit platinum or rouge again, just fun things here and there. I've also been doing more at Ulta and is imagine that will continue, it's probably a good thing they don't have something like flash shipping.
I'm absolutely scaling back. My goal is to not buy anything until I've run out of an item. I got a raise last October, and I pissed so much of it away on make up and skincare.
I've got ABH Modern Renaissance and Naked 3, which should be just fine as far as palettes are concerned.
By the way if anyone wants to track their makeup spending MakeupAlley.com has a shopping diary feature that makes it quite easy. You just have to join (which is free).

No more eyeshadow palettes and lip products.
I really want to focus on just buying my HG items and stop trying new stuff unless I have to. I really need to cancel my Sephora Play! box because that's the one main reason why I branched out from my usual stuff this year. I mean, it was a good thing because I found some HG products but at the same times, I was buying stuff I really don't need.
My goal last year was to cut back on spending, which I did to a degree. While I did make Rouge again this year, it was just barely. My goal this year is to cut back significantly more- Only purchasing when I have to replace something, and then making Ulta a first choice place to purchase vs. Sephora.
The amount of money I spent on makeup and skincare last year was ridiculous. I am committing to shopping my stash and not purchasing anything in January.

I am focusing on skincare and trying to use what I have. I'll have to replace mascara, foundation, and my favorite blush as they get used up, but I'm hoping to keep the rest of my MU spending to a bare minimum.
I'm growing older but not up. My metabolic rate is pleasantly stuck, let the winds of time blow over my head. I'd rather die while I'm living than live while I'm dead.

I already scaled back last year. I just can't use what I have, although I think my collection is definitely on the small side already. I feel so wasteful and indulgent. Trying to make fewer impulse purchases and focus on using what I have.
