So, you know that Sam Adams Harvest pack with the 2 delicious pumpkins that I haven't seen outside of the stinking harvest pack? Two. Only. I was saving the last one for my game on Saturday. We had people over. I look down. I look up and BRAD GAVE AWAY MY PUMPKIN!!!!! GRRRRRRRRR!!!
We had other pumpkins in the fridge. Blue Point, which are good. Blue Moon, which are meh. He gave away my Sam and I had to watch the chick drink it with a smile on my face.
We got the Sam Adams harvest pack with the two pumpkins - I wasn't crazy about the pumpkin. And I love me some pumpkin beer! Big boss harvest time is pretty awesome Muddled, it's a local Raleigh brewery so I'm not sure if you could find it up there.
I hide anything and everything that I don't want my friends eating/drinking. I usually put beer in the produce drawers and cover with vegetables (this gets it very safely away from any of my friends). DH has been known to put cookies in the freezer and cover with bags of frozen veggies and ice.
I don't want to have to do it, but my friends are the type to walk in an rummage through your fridge and cabinets no matter how many times you yell at them.

I've totally done this too but I've gone so far as to hide things from my SO, haha!
He claims he had no idea that he did it. I don't know how that's possible. It was at the back of the fridge with at least 24 beers in front of it.
I am surprised you didn't like the Sam Pumpkin, DL. I like that it is made with a darker beer. The Blue Points are too.
I don't think I like the Dogfish Head, IIRC. They are really hoppy, aren't they? I think I had that one last year. Are the Shipyards hoppy? I don't do hoppy.
I am happy with my Blue Points for now. I will try something else on Friday.

Yes, everything I've ever had from Dogfish head has been hoppy. I really don't like anything they make. DH is a huge IPA fan so I get, "try this, it's great" often when it come to their beer.

I love the dogfish pumpkin ale but have had a hard time finding it this year. Sarnac makes a good pumpkin ale. I am not a big fan of Sam Adams pumpkin ale and I have tried to be many times.
I'm gonna jump on the Shipyard Pumpkinhead bandwagon. It's zingier than some of the other beers - more pumpkin spice than pumpkin pie.
I've already made it through my pumpkin variety pack, so I'll go see if any more offerings have made their way to my local Total Wine. My favorite from last year (Starr Hill Boxcar) hasn't lived up to my expectations yet.

I agree that a lot of the Dogfish Head beers are very hoppy and absolutely not my taste. The Punkin Ale, however, is not hoppy at all. It is, by far, my all time favorite beer. It is a bit higher in alcohol content (around 7 or so, I think) than your average lager or whathaveyou, so you do need to pace yourself. (Or not, depending on your goal. Lol!)
If you go to the Dogfish Head website, they have something called Fish Finder which will let you search your area by variety to see what bars/distributors have received deliveries. That should help with locating it, depending on how popular it is in your area.

I'm starting to remember this more now. I think it was ok.
I live about 2 hours from the brewery, so availability is never an issue.
Muddled, I'll try it and report back... I'll take one for the dark beer team.
Ok, so maybe I lied. In my thread last year, I said I liked the Saranac. In two different threads. I clearly have something else in mind. Hmmm... What was it? I need to warn you away from it.
Or maybe it was the Saranac and I just got a bad keg the second time around?? Maybe Brad will remember.
It also seems that I liked this one- Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin Ale

Muddled I had my saranac pumpkin that was fresh off the line so maybe that makes the difference but I have enjoyed it more than anything I had last fall.
ETA :makes me a sad panda you didn't like it. I have another one I just bought ill try it tonight and let you know.I can't remember the name of it
PP- You didn't see my last post. I am WRONG. I have a bad beer-drinking memory. Please don't be a sad panda.
Bully- Most of them are not hoppy. Hoppy + pumpkin spice doesn't mix very well. Anything that I like, you can count on no (or little) hoppy aftertaste. However, I do like darker beers along with the light. In NYC, beer is priced by the bottle, not by the 6 pack, and most places you can mix and match to get what you want. Can you do that to try some? I don't know if it's the same state-wide. The only lighter one I've had this year is the Blue Moon and I'm not in love.
I don't remember liking the Weyerbacher, Buffalo Bill's, Smuttynose, or Post Road pumpkin ales. I've got the Schlafly at home that I still need to try. I've never tried the UFO pumpkin ale, but it's a common one.
I may stop at the store on my way home instead of waiting until the weekend.
Bully, the shock top probably is probably a good one for you to try. I haven't had their flavored beers, but I like the regular one and I bet you would too.

Panickd- I do love the hazel brown.
Totally agreed. If you like flavored beers, shock top raspberry wheat is divine But pumpkin is gooood!
I'm also a lurker, but I wanted to let you Sam Adam's Pumpkin Ale fans that our local beer distributor had cases and 6-packs of only the Pumpkin Ale, so if you have have a local beer distributor you might want to see if they have the same.
