Mine had that same straight-across neckline that a lot of strapless dresses do, but it had cap sleeves. I had it custom made because the dress that I found that I really liked was a) strapless, and b) $4,000. I preferred a simple silk dress to an embellished polyester one, so that's what I got.

No, I had a sleeveless dress that.i.was able to wear with a regular bra.
Strapless was all the rage when I got married in 07. I was a DDD cup at the time and knew there wasn't a corset dress in existence that could contain these girls. Salespeople were horrified when I asked them not to show me strapless dresses. I'd try one on just.to humor them, but they looked and felt awful.
Not only did I do strapless, but I did strapless with a deep v back. I have really broad shoulders, and no way did I want to be fucking with massive alterations to take the waist in 10 sizes.
I had an amazing tailor and the dress never moved, despite me losing weight, the dress being too big and me stuffing the boobs with hotel washcloths.
Oh, and I ended up getting a bridesmaid's dress. Try being a casual non-frou frou girl living in freaking Omaha. Dress shopping was a sad sad time.
And, yes, regardless how good a tailor, it would still slip, at least it would if it was loose enough for me to breathe.
Most BM dresses have substandard construction given what's expected of them. Those never stay up without the addition of an elastic strap at the waist, and possibly replacing all of the boning.
It was. And it had a lot of the problems that come with it. And I still think I looked fucking fabulous because I felt great in it, and it was 25 pounds ago.
No strapless here, during a time when absolutely everything was strapless. I have broad shoulders, even at a fit, healthy weight, and tend to look kind of like a linebacker in strapless dresses. Mine was v-neck and I loved it.
I thought I didn't want a strapless dress for all the reasons people mention here - that it's "trendy", that it would fall off, that it wouldn't look good with my body type. But the dress I fell in love with happened to be strapless and I didn't really have any problems with it. I had the bodice padded heavily and didn't wear any bras or corsets with it. The dress was pretty well structured so it didn't slip off. Basically, my tailor just fit it really well at the waist and that held the top part up. I loved it. Still do. Even though the asshole high school kids working at the dry cleaners obviously played dress up in it and got blue ink pen and nail polish on it. Yep. I said nail polish. They tried to fold it all up in the memory box so that you could see it, but I. notice. everything.
Holy shit. You raised some hell, right? Because holy shit.
Stupid teenagers. When I went in for my final fitting the store had my dress hanging waiting for me in the pretty changeroom, in the room where all the wedding dresses are. We headed back and there were some teenagers playing with my dress. The store kicked them out pretty fast.
I have really big boobs, and while I look good in strapless, I didn't want to have to worry about a wardrobe malfunction at my wedding. I did a lot of dancing and was happy that I went with something I was comfortable in.
I did strapless but like Wawa I have small boobs and good shoulders. If I could do it again I would wear Duchess Kate's dress. It looks a lot like my grandmother's gown.

Mine was strapless, but I would make a different decision if I could do it again. It was a sweetheart neck (pic in AW post) and my boobs would not stay put. Most of my pictures are really revealing. I still have near-weepy regret about those pictures. And even though I was at my smallest adult weight then, I still had some back fat and ugly arms. Le sigh.

I noticed we all seemed to be "princess-like" on our wedding days. Here I thought we were all raging feminists.
Oh and I looked freakin' awesome in my strapless dress and didn't have to adjust it once. Of course I couldn't sit down longer than five minutes because I couldn't breathe...

I did. I wish I hadn't. Actually when I tried it on, it looked really good. And then I gained 30 pounds before the wedding because I had an ovary removed and it completely fucked up my hormones and I wound up having to have my dress let out. Awful.
"This prick is asking for someone here to bring him to task Somebody give me some dirt on this vacuous mass so we can at last unmask him I'll pull the trigger on it, someone load the gun and cock it While we were all watching, he got Washington in his pocket."
i bought a strapless dress but added embroidered lace cap sleeves to it. they didn't help to hold the dress up but i have a really long neck/shoulder/chest area and i look ridiculous in strapless. i would have had to have a mega-huge necklace to pull it off. plus- i am a little old fashioned about strapless in church. i don't judge people who do; i just couldn't.
I voted special snowflake. Technically, yes, I wore a strapless dress. However, strapless is not flattering on me, so I wore a lace bolero with it.
I hate it when people say that a strapless dress might fall off. LOL. A strapless dress that has been fitted isn't going to fall off of anyone, regardless of your bra size. However, it isn't the most flattering look for most people.
LOVE your wedding dress/bolero combo - beautiful!
My dress was indeed strapless. I married XH during the Maggies with corset backs, pickup skirts, all strapless all the time rage, but I look good in strapless so it's fine. If/when I get married again, I'm not sure what direction I'll go for a dress, but it may be another strapless.
Something about my body just looks odd in short sleeved and sleeveless/tank top/spaghetti strap styles, so for a highly-photographed event I'd go strapless or 3/4 to full-length sleeved.
I had a strapless dress too. I found it a little ironic at the time because in my mind I had wanted something either halter style or sleeveless (but not spaghetti strap) but I grabbed a couple of strapless dresses to try on for the hell of it and fell in love with one of them. Luckily there was enough built in boning in the bodice and a built in bra so it stayed up with no problem.
ETA: let me see if I can add this...I think its the only decent shot of my dress that's uploaded to photobucket.
I wore one but I didn't want a strapless - felt like I was too heavy but my mom, sister and bridesmaid loved this dress and talked me into getting it. I had a completely different dress on hold at another store with an empire waste and sleeves! But everyone said they liked me in this dress.

I did not want strapless at all. Before actually trying any on, I had decided that I wanted either off the shoulder or cap sleeves. The lady at the bridal salon talked me into trying a strapless on and of course I fell in love with it. I tried others but kept going back to the first one, so I bought it.
My boobs weren't as giant as they are now (read: 25 lbs ago), but I had no trouble with my dress staying up. I didn't even wear a bra. The boning was fantastic.
I was in a wedding with a bad strapless though. She bought it way too small, didn't lose the weight she intended to, and had to have a corset back added that really didn't do the trick. You know how women wearing strapless adjust constantly because they're self conscious, but the dress is actually in no danger of falling off? I honestly thought she was going to flash the guests several times.
