I am SO excited. I thought it started last night and was all set up with my glass of wine after the kids went to bed, only to find it wasn't on. I hope it's as good as the reviews are saying.
Blah. They played the audio of the opening scene in a review on NPR today and it made me kind of upset. I think it's probably pregnancy hormones and her daughter being taken away. I want to watch it, but I also think I'm going to find it upsetting.

There are a couple things I've found upsetting but it's really well done so I'm trying to stick it out.
I'm usually not like this. Pregnancy and the first few months post-partum make me weird. It's actually kind of annoying.

Stupid queation, but I don't currently have Hulu, do they drop the whole season at once like Netflix, or are new episodes released weekly? I'm going to get Hulu just for this regardless, but I like binging.

It looks like they're releasing 3 episodes this week, then it says new episodes wednesdays. 10 episodes total.

I signed up for the free trial today. They still need cc info but if you cancel in time you won't be charged.

This is where I'm at. I read the book years ago and love it to death, but even just watching the previews has made my stomach drop. I don't even have pregnancy hormones to blame. One year post partum hormones?
Meh, I think that counts. It probably took me a year to really get past it somewhat and then I basically got pregnant right away.
I distinctly remember turning on an episode of How to Get Away with Murder about 4 months post partum. The opening scene was someone putting a plastic bag over the head of one of the main characters. I turned it off and never watched the show again. Something like that wouldn't have bothered me like that before. Now? No way. It's a bit unsettling.
I'm watching now. You should totally read the book. So much of this story is internal. There's a lot of stuff between men and women that is subtle, beyond the dystopian narrative. And Atwood is a skilllful writer. Read Blind Assassin, too.

It didn't necessarily make me upset, just kind of meh about the show. I am waiting to see how people review the whole show before I subscribe to Hulu.
I guess I was not expecting them to make it so current. The book was written in the 80s/90s, right? So the show mentions things like Tinder and Uber. Making it set in current time. And all the more terrifying.

You get a month free if you want to check out the first episodes.
I liked it okay, the book is my favorite of all time and I recently listened to the audio book narrated by Claire Danes, so I had trouble matching the casting to what was in my head.
I was only going to watch 1-2 episodes yesterday, but I ended up watching all 3. Wow, what a terrifying story and I think they are doing a really good job. I haven't read the book, but now I want to. Elisabeth Moss is a really good actress. The first scene hit me really hard as I have a daughter about that same age.
