I just got back from meeting with the photographer and ordering our pictures. $500 later.....but they were SO good I could t narrow it down any more. And she gave me 5 free prints because I'm a repeat customer and a free one because it was super cute, but farther away and she said I had to have it.

I woke up with what I think is the start of a sinus infection. I have a bad headache, pain behind my eyes and I feel foggy. Ugh. Debating on going to urgent care tomorrow after work.

Went for a two hour mountain bike ride today and made the sewer lid for Matilda's ninja turtles cake. Feeling accomplished. I did no cleaning and didn't make a dent in the giant laundry pile but eh.
Faevantastic I probably asked you this before but how far in advance do you make your cookies? I'm wondering if making and icing them a whole week in advance is possible .. or would they be stale. I'd be putting them in cellophane bags
Also have you heard about this app you can get for the iPhone/iPad- it's called camera Lucida and I guess you can use it to project images onto paper (or cookies!) for tracing. i haven't tried it but it sounds cool!

The cookies stay fresh for 2 weeks sealed. You should be good!
I bought the Lucida app! I think it was like $5. I had a hard time setting iPad up for the right height and gave up on it.
Anyone know of a good vanilla buttercream frosting recipe? I just realized I need to make some for A's birthday cake Thursday. I usually do chocolate, but she wants pink frosting this year.

@lindy I'm going to point you in the direction of a blog called bravetart.com. Her German buttercream is on point, but it is a little labor intensive. If you aren't feeling up for it, the Swiss buttercream is great too

good to know about the app! I was thinking ... it would be hard to figure out the logistics. But I know people use those projectors that are really expensive so this seems like a good alternative but maybe you need to construct some kind of contraption to hold it ??
I'm not going to buy the app anyway I don't think, my weakness is piping anyway so this would probably not help me much haha.
This is good to know, it means I could possibly still make cookies as favors instead of buying plastic crap. I'm thinking I'll keep it simple and do just round ninja turtle heads, pizza slices and paw prints / dog bones since I'll have to make 2-3 dozen. Trying to draw the paw patrol characters in icing probably would not go well. I suppose I could attempt to use a transfer ... but I feel like the transfers aren't always great either because the cookie may not be perfectly flat

I ended up making this tonight! My first time was a disaster, I used pasteurized egg whites, and it didn't work. Second time I used normal egg whites and it turned out great! Do you use pasteurized? If you do, what brand?

I just use regular eggs, separating them by hand. The only time I've used boxed egg whites, it turned into sugary soup. Then I make custard or something with the yolks.
