I was surprised to see it - I always check out their maxis because they have tall sizes - and usually I do buy a few of the knit ones, but it's surprisingly not totally LE boring/basic. I bought it in black but I might buy it in coral too.
I don't think theres anything wrong with their dresses, but I don't think anyone under the age of 65 should wear a SWIM dress.
Athleta keeps trying to make swim dresses happen. I still just see a swim suit with a skirt.
ETA : I worked in a swim suit store for the better part of a decade so my negative reaction to skirted swim suits is strong. I still associate them all with Roxanne brand (90 bucks in 1998! That was a lot for a suit for water aerobics!)
I prefer a retro swim style that comes down over my thighs a bit and I can wear big sunglasses and a big hat with it. Then I pretend I'm like super fabulous and glamorous and not at the pool with my kids and a cooler full of juice boxes and fruit. But I still feel covered up and I think that style is flattering on me.
(not that anyone cares what I wear to the pool, it's just that my tip is to go for glamfabulous with the accessories, it increases my confidence even though I don't love how I look in swimwear)
Um, so how is it that people clearly remember moolarkey for being a racist POS down to the specific details but those same people said NOTHING when it happened?
This needed to be repeated. What on earth?!?!
Messy folks please note that I'm on vacation next week so the account deletions/deactivations that this thread inspires are going to run slower than usual.
(not) Sorry!
You've probably moved on but I couldn't not say something. How about actually you righteous white folks stop calling out a brown girl for not saying enough against a racist comment about brown people. 🙄
Plantation party was Elle's husband's friend's bachelor party and he either knew in advance or didn't leave when it broke out because of being long term friends or something about either alcohol or alcoholism, I can't remember. Which is why I was always surprised at the "oh ellllllle you're totally the smartest ever and I can't wait to hire as my lawyer one day!!"
I was insanely busy at work today so I'm typing this in my work clothes sitting at the foot of my stairs where I have been catching up.
Aaaaaand...while I was typing people already found her post. The alcohol/best friends must have been proffered as the reason for his not leaving immediately. I remember that detail.
Was that stellas? I cannot guarantee it but I'm thinking that.
I dont think I have much else of value to contribute to this thread. I'm sorry we are sofuckingclueless. Some purposefully so, some less purposefully, but stillfuckingclueless.
Everything else that has been posted are opinions and I am not going to get into a disagreement over them but this is a disgusting misstatement and I am not going to leave it out there. My husband attended his old roommate's bachelor party in a different state. Once he was there, one of the other groomsmen (whom DH had never met before) ordered prostitutes to live out some disgusting plantation fantasy. My husband objected, called and told me about it, and left the next day. He has not spoken to the other groomsman since and when the guy tried to sit next to us at the rehearsal dinner I told him he was disgusting and DH and I got up and moved. If people want to dislike me for things I've done or said, fine, but to imply DH or I was OK with that is a load of bullshit and I am not going to be maligned with it.
There are a lot of other myths in here too, which there is really no point in addressing, but that is a nasty, disgusting story and it is not true.
She was special, though.
Doesn't this confirm he went to the party??? He just left after the sex workers?

Lol thank you.
Seriously people show their asses even in the race to be the best ally.

You're right. I misread it that he left the party, but no, he left the next day. Well, at least the sniffed at him at the rehearsal dinner? That'll show'em.
ETA: On an unrelated note, since swim dresses keep coming up. I wear one, first because I'm almost sixty-fucking-one (OMG) and when I wear a swim dress I don't have to wear shorts over my swimming suit if I don't want to shave my pubes, an activity I have never done and don't intend to start now. Those swim dresses are long!

My comment wasn't directed toward any one in particular. How many of us saw the post and didn't say anything? Hundreds? Maybe thousands?
Ok. It seemed directed at the one person who specifically remembered the details and mentioned it but whatever. Anyway, yeah thousands of y'all prolly did see and say nothing. It's not new.

I might not wear it at the beach, but living in the conservative south and going to neighborhood pools and splash pads, it is what I feel most comfortable in. 30 or 40 pounds ago things might have been different.
Since I only notice them at the pool and last year was the first year I went to a community pool as an adult, I'm starting to wonder if I need one if I take the boys. And now knowing they are long enough to hide my pubes... lol

There was a thread linked (by a few people, I think) that had no responses at all. And it made me think about how many people saw it and said nothing. Which is admittedly a pretty brand new thing to think at all.
I'm not that invested in this but it was brought up by pandora after which a bunch of people searched it out and linked. And you liked a post where pandora said she actually did say something about it. Rather than being like sorry you would have had to call it out yourself as a poc when no white people were saying anything. Why not just say sorry I didn't realize pandora was brown and that's prolly why this stuck with her instead of doubling down still.
Those are even longer than the one I posted! You make me feel like a tramp in my barely-there, below-the-pubes dress!
I think they are supposed to be dual purpose. So like you can wear it to the store and to the pool.
I was about to say that. Those are just dresses in swim material. There are a few cute ones. Do you have to wear bottoms underneath? They're not built in, right? I didn't click on any ...

I saw this on FB today "I'm lifting the petty and ignorant up in prayer today." I thought to myself that's fitting for today but I would have to pray for some of y'all to remove your head from your dumbass.

Elle's constant stream of bragplaining and doling out advice on criminal law (even though she didn't even practice in that area) was always hilarious to me.
Also, the truth of the matter is, I've gone full Lands End Grandma this year. In my chinos and short sleeved twill shirt, I look like a zoo keeper. But I'm ok with that.
