Wash cloths 4 lyfe. New one every time, because ICK. Loofahs/bath poofs ick me out, too. I mean, I'll use a loofah to exfoliate, but not to actually clean.
Though I'm guilty of reusing a bath towel a time or two - I figure it's drying my clean body, so the world won't end if I forget to grab a clean one.
Shit, I have a washing machine. It's not like I have to take my laundry down to the canal and scrub it on a rock. A few more towels in a load won't kill me.
This post is rubbing me the wrong way.
Apart from your gross canal-and-rock example (which IS how millions of people across the globe live), the fact is many people even in THIS country do not have easy access to washer /dryers.
Implying that someone would be so ICK for not using a new washcloth or towel every single time they shower is some serious privilege-bubble nonsense.
I certainly apologize. I didn't realize I was saying anything different than other people, but I can see that my wording was insensitive. I'm sorry.
In case I need to remind you, my husband refuses to dry his head with even a new towel because "that towel touched my balls." WHY DONT YOU DRY YOUR HEAD FIRST INSTEAD OF DRIPPING EVERYWHERE?
And I have body washcloths and face washcloths (white) so they don't get washed together.
But I do wash cloth napkins in the same load as washcloths. But it wouldn't be the first time someone has pointed out something that has grossed me out and changed my behavior.
You all don't have to get sensitive about washcloths. I don't care if you use one or not, if you reuse one or not, if you own 2 or 22. I will continue to wash my ass with a washcloth because that's how I was raised.
This cracks me up. I also find the "But my preshus has dry skin!!! THINK OF HIS POOR SKIN!" hilarious. I don't care about your child's scaly skin. You can continue to make excuses for it all you want it's not going to change the fact that your kid smells and my kid is clean and probably gets extra snuggles bc of it.
You actually helped me out a few years ago in a thread on MMM about this topic. When we took custody of our older daughter, even her former foster mom tried to tell me you really don't have to give them a bath everyday. She has a trauma background and sensory issues, but seemed to love a bath. You had posted about a nightly bath as part of bedtime ritual. My husband completely loved the idea, so I incorporated it into her nightly routine and it has helped her immensely. If she's having a really tough heightened sensory day, she loves nothing more than to sit in the tub in the evening after dinner with her sister and they talk and play.
Nope. You use you hand to get up in your ass crack? You cootch? Your belly button? Inside and behind your ears? You need a WASHCLOTH to get clean. Otherwise you are just wasting soap and water.
Or the deodorant residue from armpits?
Annnd, using a washcloth is a good exfoliant. Which, of course, will let moisturizers more effectively do their job.
True on deodorant residue/using more soap and water. I do go over armpits at least twice + once for shaving.

I use a hammam mitt once a week (I also have a Korean version of the same thing which I have also seen called an "Italian Washcloth"). That thing literally peels off your skin. So, no accumulated ash on me, just super pale. I do need to step it up on the moisturizer though.
I generally don't use a wash cloth. I feel like with hot water and soap I get plenty clean but who knows lol.

I'm trying to think of what my mom would say if I told her I showered without using a wash cloth.

My precious had nasty eczema and I spent $400 on a water softener and bought perscription cortisone I didn't know using a wash cloth was harming his skin! I wish I was a more thoughtful mother.
I love going to my parents' house b/c my mom buys really expensive lotions & hand cremes. You'll find at least 2 different types in every room.
I'm always like "oooohhh french milk & honey? Yes, please."
The moment I was introduced to l'occitane my life changed.
Ok so tell me about their almond shower oil. It says "cleansing and softening"...so...do you wash with it or is it an after-soap oil? (I love almond anything)

You wash with it. I wasn't a fan. It wasn't moisturizing enough and I like a good lather - it doesn't get really soapy.
So is it meant to be like, an all in one thing (as in, you don't need lotion after?). I guess it was disappointing on both fronts. Lather is supposed to be really drying but I like it too so that I definitely will not give up. I guess it is for the best, because that stuff is spendy!
Why would someone do that to their kid intentionally? Why would you willfully make them the smelly kid at school?
I was unintentionally the smelly kid when I was 12. Both my parents worked long hours, we were dirt poor, and they were having some major issues between the two of them so I kind of fell between the cracks.
The summer between 7th and 8th grade I had to go to summer school because my grades were slipping, and I had to walk there and back in the heat. One day one of the other girls in the class passed me a note that I said I really stunk. I was so embarassed and ashamed. I had to ask my mom to buy me deoderant and I started showering twice a day.
Why the hell would you do that to your kid on purpose.
I will never understand the lack of lotion. I absolutely hate the feeling of dry skin.
I keep lotion on my person at all times.

Yep. Same with my mom. When she started working for sephora, it went to a whole new level. I've got so many lotions and oils now, I could just slip and slide everywhere.
This is literally the thread that covers damn near everything. I'm so glad I kept coming back to it, and now I'm totally going to follow @natariru's glossy legs routine.
I dont like greasy feeling lotion but I am 99% sure I am just using cheap stuff.
Soap and Glory Hand Food and Kiehl's hand cream are non-greasy and amazing. When I went through chemo my skin was horribly dry and that stuff kept my hands relatively non-disgusting. (BTW, Soap and Glory is at Target and you need the tiniest bit)
ETA: While on the lotion subject: Can anyone recommend a really moisturizing body lotion that has little or no scent? I have plain almond oil to put on first.

My hands are always dry (because I wash them at least a dozen times a day) so thank you for the recommendations!
