I am glad I am not the only one who is neurotic about water bottles. DH also puts hand wash only bottles in the dishwasher.
DD has a couple of monogrammed Tervis tumblers and six straws. DH also lets the little kids use/chew on those and it makes me insane. Literally, her name is on them. He says I act like the only child I was.

erinshelley21, that would drive me nuts! I used to have a water bottle that I got from the hospital when I had DS and I would drink from it and refill it several times a day. Well, the kids would also drink from it, which I hated not only because of the backwash potential but because I could never tell how much I was drinking. So, when it broke, I bought a gallon jug of water which I refill everyday and just pour from there into a Solo cup when I'm thirsty.
erinshelley21, I have a water bottle that I do. Not. Share. I mean, I'd let the kids drink out of it, but DH and DD1 keep trying to take it for the day to work/school, and I protect it like it's made of diamonds. DD has lost more bottles than I can count, and DH just collects them in his office. So, nope. That one is mine. And I'm pretty sure it makes me a little crazy in their eyes, but I do not care. Mine.
If we're out and about, and no one prepared/didn't want to carry their own water, I've found putting lemon in my water will keep everyone away from it.
This is me and my yeti. Heaven help you if you try to borrow it. DH was using it so often (after loudly proclaiming what a waste of money it was) that I finally went and bought him his own. Now we're working on not drinking out of mine. And hell no to my kids drinking my drink. Backwash is not happening in my cup. I'm willing to share with them, but once I do I no longer drink that drink.

Oh, yeah, I meant the kids can drink out of it, but then it's their drink until I put it through the dishwasher. They are cute little petri dishes.
