Because I'm about to go crazy.
DD (5) is in summer camp this week. Today is day 2. Today is also the day that, when we picked her up, we received a notice that our children were exposed to Scarlet Fever. Because apparently the parents of Patient 0 didn't think that their super-speshul snowflake was "that" sick.
We're supposed to go camping with my sister's family this weekend. She has 3 kids, one of who is only a month old.

Rage.Â
I'm so sorry! Do you think the parents knew & sent him/her anyway? I was guilty of not realizing DD2 had it until a rash appeared. I still almost waited it out since she otherwise seemed healthy, but decided to get it checked out just in case. I felt so guilty when it was diagnosed--both about DD2 & her classmates! Scarlet fever seriously wasn't even on my radar with no other symptoms. It would be so crappy to willingly expose other kids to it.

I'm sorry. Like frozenpeas, said, maybe the parents didn't realize?
My vent of the day - so a really close set of friends are going through a separation. Both parties confide in DH and I. The husband is completely heart-broken and pretty much non-functional. DH has been spending a lot of time with the husband; and on a daily basis, we hear his self-deprecating talk about how his wife was/is perfect and their lives were perfect and how he has ruined it all. At this point, I just want to shake the husband and say are you out of your mind?! Case in point: (a) in the last 3 months (the length of their separation), she has gone on 3 separate week+ long vacations, leaving you with your two daughters; (b) she started actively dating as soon as she told you she wanted a separation; (c) you guys are $150K+ in debt; (d) your summer schedule consists of having your daughters and your nanny live with your parents because, in your wife's words: "it's just more convenient that way, but I'll visit from time to time" WTF? And because the wife has pretty much broken off all contact with our other friends but "confides" in me because I have been non-judgmental, I've tried really hard to bite my tongue when she and I talk in an effort to encourage her to at least try couples counseling. But It's driving me mad. I want to shake her and tell her what a spoiled brat she is being. Ok, rant over.

sweetptater, so sorry! Hope your DD stays healthy! I admit I also feel some rage when I see the "your child has been exposed to" papers in the kids' backpacks during the school year, but then I remind myself that someday my kid might be Patient 0 (and probably has been at some point, because DS used to get the stomach flu 3-4 times a year).
traveltheworld, that sounds like an awful situation for your friends (especially the husband/dad and daughters). It honestly makes me so sad that a mom would say "I'll visit from time to time." Even though it's nice to have a break from my kids here and there, I guess I can't imagine doing something like that. It sounds like something happened with the wife/mom, and hopefully she can get some counseling.
I'm in an all day meeting, sitting next to a really jerky coworker. He reeks so badly of bourbon it's triggering a migraine. And I had to tell my VP bc obviously coming to work reeking of booze is frowned upon.
I'm fighting my computer and the computer is winning....my back is killing me and my headache is turning into a migraine. I really wish I could just pick DD up from camp and go home but no I promised that I would take her out to the horse center for kids rodeo day which is today only.
DH took DD camping over the weekend. I packed all of her outfits in ziploc bags, plus extra clothes because they were looking at a 30 degree temperature swing from day to night. I packed shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste all together in a gallon zip-loc, with the toothbrush and toothpaste inside a separate zip-loc within the bigger zip-loc. I packed a hair brush with elastics wrapped around the handle on top of the suitcase.
When they arrived home, they told me that they couldn't find: - Toothbrush - toothpaste - hairbrush - pants - Underwear.
WTAF??? The bag was only an overnight bag... where did they look for it???

We just met with one of the few builders in our area about building a house. Pretty sure that won't be happening. Even for their second smallest floor plan, which is one we liked, it's going go cost over 200k and that is with very few upgrades.
We both really want to stay in our hometown but there is nothing on the market that we like. I don't even think our standards are that high.
I'm in a pissing match at work to see who has the biggest balls. What the guy I'm in this with doesn't realize is that I will totally win and he's in the wrong.
Scarlet fever? I didn't even know people still got that? I'd be annoyed too - but agree with PPs that it's hard to know sometimes how sick your kid is. We're also on day two of summer camp and I have a newborn at home, so I would be really upset if I got that notice!
DH has decided that bedtimes don't matter on summer vacation. Which means I come home from work to chaos, no dinner prep, and my kids stay up late. Which means I get no downtime and still have to go to work the next day. Really hoping this is a phase to kick things off, otherwise I'll lose my mind this summer.
Not really a vent, but the questionable guy that runs the auto detail shop next to our office put four 3 ft dolls on the sidewalk facing our building. I thought they were vodoo dolls or something, but turns out they are Christmas carolers with Joy to the World sheet music. This neighborhood gets more weird by the day.

I'm still annoyed with DH. He has been less helpful this 4 days off from work than normal and his attitude about our house situation is driving me crazy. He got irritated that I asked him to wait to shower until I got DS to bed in case DD woke up. I get that he wants to go to bed but so do I. I still have like an hour worth of shit to do before I can shower and go to bed. Plus I'm putting DS to bed as a favor to him since he falls asleep every time and then gets broken sleep.
sweetptater, I have never in my life seen scarlet fever but it sounds so old world and scary. I hope your kiddo doesn't get sick. I remember, though, when DS got HFM and not only did they put out a notice to his daycare class but they put one out in DD's infant class (which was at a different daycare) b/c he had (prior to us figuring out he was sick) come with us to pick her up each day. I definitely felt bad about effecting two different facilities with that.
freezorburn, I totally thought your update was going to be that it was actually broken. Whenever I've loaned stuff to my dad, he's broken it including: air pump, leaf blower, lawn mower (which we loaned him after his dog damaged the lawn mower we bought him). I remember he wanted to borrow a chain saw after all that. Absolutely not. I was certain he'd break it and kill himself (dh did the task for him).

mustardseed2007, LOL ... for a while I wondered if my friend had lost or damaged the grill and was trying to avoid telling me or looking for a way to cover it up. Turned out she was just being a flake.
Wow, that's some bad luck with your dad and machines. How did his dog damage the lawn mower?

So strange, rere! That guy sounds kind of like the creepy murderers in horror movies. Which is why I can't watch horror movies anymore. Too many people like that IRL.
Speaking of weird diseases, specifically HFM... It was going around our area early Fall 2016, and when I picked the kids up from daycare (the in-home provider they've gone to their whole lives who agreed to let them come before and after school), one of the other kids had blisters on his hands. I asked if the mom had him checked out to see if it was HFM, and DCP said no, and she didn't think it was. Of course, DS (who picks up just about everything), started getting blisters on his hands and feet within the next 1-2 days.
erinshelley21, that sounds frustrating! I hope the perfect house for you comes on the market soon!
My annoyance is that I need to figure out a pay range for a supervisor job that doesn't exist in our market salary surveys, and it could potentially report to a manager job that really should be a supervisor (and the pay range for the manager job is low for a manager job, which also tells me it really should be a supervisor). So that will be fun.

I didn't realize Scarlet Fever was still a thing either. I'm trying to be understanding, but seriously. The kid was obviously sick, since they were planning on taking her to the doctor right after camp got out that day. But, I'm sure Scarlet Fever wasn't the first (or even tenth) thing on their radar. I would have thought it was a cold and sent my kid anyway. I get it. I think I'm more frustrated with the timing. I really don't want my kids around my 1 month old niece. And my sister is just a leeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeetle bit of a drama queen. If DD has no symptoms as of Friday (4 days post-exposure), we're going camping anyway and not telling my sister.
And here I am, doing the same thing as the parents I'm upset with.
On that note, I would rather it be Scarlet Fever than HFM. That was the absolute WORST.
traveltheworld, that is a shitty situation. It sounds like the wife is checked out. We've got friends going through something similar. It's a tough spot to be in.
So now the Christmas carolers have been moved to the edge of our parking lot spaced about six ft apart. They wonder why I complain when I have to switch out cars in the dark sometimes.
rere, does he have an issue with your employer? SO creepy! I had to turn my dolls heads away when I was little in order to sleep in the same room as them.
twinmomma, it's our kids that don't think they have a bedtime in summer. Neither of them will go to bed at night. They used to be asleep by 8 and now it's more like 9. I'm so sick of the constant getting back up because I'm thirsty, I'm hungry, I have to go to the bathroom, I need a Band-Aid, etc etc. I don't know if it's because it's still light out or what has gotten into them!
I have never learned how to upload a pic on proboards. I actually took a picture yesterday along with other coworkers. I don't think he has an issue, but I do believe he may partake in several mood altering substances.
I'm hiring for a PT entry level gig. Perfect for a college student or fresh grad who wants experience. Girl from my college alumni group comments on my post about it that "it should be remote, as she lives 30-45 minutes away."
Um. That's a perfectly normal commute. If you can't swing that, then how do you ever expect to find a job anywhere?!
Scarlet fever is a result of untreated strep. Your kid might get strep from being exposed to it, but wouldn't get scarlet fever unless the strep goes untreated. I can totally see how a parent could miss strep, especially in summer, and would only go to the doctor when the rash appeared. BTW, my kids also were exposed to strep at camp this week. We leave for vacation tomorrow. Really hoping they both avoid getting sick.
DD has a quad strain (still) so tomorrow she goes to my ortho. She's skipping tennis every day, but that means I have to pick her up after her theater camp instead of her riding the bus. Tonight she has to go to her game because she invited a new player that doesn't know anyone, and I will have to duck out of VBS to take her. Other DD has an extraction appointment - luckily her Dad is taking her because it's at the same time as the orthopedist.
I am just super stressed with trying to get everyone everywhere and work full time!! I told DH he has to be in town the first week of August or I will lose my mind. One week home over the summer to look forward to not doing all the everything.

On that note - my kids had strep a couple of months ago. The ONLY symptom they had was a stomachache. No sore throat, fever, nothing. So I'm watching for any signs of illness and will get them checked out.
I hope your kids stay healthy for your vacation! We usually spend at least a few hours of each vacation in urgent care with a suddenly sick kid.
