Monday Vents/Celebrations

Vent: Yesterday was a hard parenting day. It is so hard to raise well behaved and kind children instead of little brats. Life would be so much easier if I could just let DS have and do whatever he wanted.

Vent 2: we were going to take a 3 night camping trip at the end of the month but I just looked at the calendar and we have preschool orientation on night 3. We can still go camping so that's not the vent. The vent is summer is almost over and I feel like we've barely had any because it's rained so damn much.

Celebration: this is my last week of meetings for the season. And possibly ever.

Vent- I woke up to a thunderstorm. This is my first day back from vacation, and we all know how much that first day back sucks. I don't want to go back!

Vent- I visited my relative while on vacation and realized that both her kids need major help. She's been given tons of advice and never follows through, so hopefully one day they will get what they need but I am not holding my breath. We hit a deer while on vacation and the car needs to be fixed.

Celebration- we had a great vacation. Some ups and downs but it was so good to get away. I think we problem solved a lot of things so as long as H follows through and I think he will, and I have some agenda items too to follow up with my boss on.

Celebration: We had an awesome weekend! The amusement park was a ton of fun. We ended the day on the carousel and DH turned to me and said "We have an awesome family. Thanks for giving me that." Which melted my heart and reminded me why I love that guy.

Vent-ish: I don't know if I should classify this as a vent or what it is. But there's a house for sale in our dream neighborhood. It's literally on the same block as MIL and FIL, which I know isn't everyone's ideal location, but we'd love it, especially as we're the ones likely to be taking care of them as they age. It's a split level, which is a style of house I've always said I hate. It would need updating - the inside looks like it hasn't ever been fixed up. But the price is so low that we'd essentially have the same mortgage we have now if we sell our current house and put that money towards it. Then all our extra monthly budget could go to renovations and updating instead of a larger mortgage. I just have this nagging feeling that we need to go check it out. But I know DH is going to tell me I'm completely insane for even considering it. I don't want to start a fight about our house buying timeline, but I really, really want to consider it. It could be a perfect way for us to get into the neighborhood without spending a small fortune up front.

Vent / Celebration - The brake assist vacuum broke while we were hauling our trailer on the way to the campground last week. (The only comparison I can make is if your power steering goes out - you can still steer, but it's a lot harder.) Luckily we didn't lose the brakes completely, and we were close to the campground, but DH had to brake with both feet because we had the extra weight of the trailer. It was a pretty tense few minutes. Also, thankfully we were camping near my parents' cottage, and they had an extra vehicle we could use while our was repaired, so that was a definite celebration. And our extended warranty covered the repair (except for a $50 deductible), so that was also a celebration.

Celebration - I had a great vacation week. The weather was beautiful and it was nice to spend time with my parents and some of my aunts and uncles. The kids had fun, and I think we were able to fit in just about all the things we had wanted to do.

Vent - This is my first day back to work in over a week, so it was super hard to get up this morning and I have tons of emails to go through.

Despite my vent on Friday about the weekend, I did have fun (as I knew I would) at our friend's lake house this weekend. The kids always have a blast with all of the toys they have - golf cart, boats, etc. But, also as I suspected, I'm really tired today and not motivated. I think I'm going to reduce my expectations for the next couple of weeks and try to go with the flow.

Celebrate : off today and tomorrow recuperating from vacation. Relaxing on my porch with coffee.

Vent : we hoped to be painting and putting the kitchen back together today, but my pantry cabinet is in the middle of my kitchen as the drywall is still not finished. Sigh.

Vent: I was off work all last week and today I don't want to be at work. DS2 has not been sleeping well the last three nights and I'm thinking he might have an ear infection (at least that is what I am hoping) since he does not want to be on his back at all. Poor little guy is a mess due to the lack of sleep. If DH can't get a sitter for the other 2 kids, I'll be taking DS2 to urgent care after work.

Vent: Last week, I found out that DD will need some orthodontic work done. An x-ray showed that she is missing her adult incisor tooth and she has a crossbite. As a result, she'll need an expander, braces, and a retainer and the orthodontist wants to start this sooner rather than later. Poor DD is scared about the whole thing. Everyone at the orthodontist's office is really nice and caring. We're going next month to another orthodontist for a second opinion, but I think the course of action will be the same.

Celebration: My parents sold their house and it is bittersweet. They have found a new one-floor carriage house to rent, but there will be a month between closing on the house and moving into the rental. So they might be staying at my house, which the kids would love. DH would appreciate the help too so he could get some things done around our house.

Celebration: I had a fun birthday on Saturday at the science center with my family. I love it when they geek out with me. DD and I did the ropes course and had a great time. I was really proud of DD for conquering her fear and going across the ropes. I know it was a little scary for me, so I can only imagine how it was for her. But there was a really nice worker there to help her focus on the obstacles.

Vent: I'm not sleeping well. I really think I may be close to needing something pharmaceutical to deal with anxiety. I'm realizing the number of low to no probability things I obsess over to the point of almost paralysis is... not normal. One of the latest is this whole "dry drowning" thing. We swim in our pool at least a couple of times a week, and I'm getting up to make sure my kids are breathing even though they haven't even been under water.

Celebration: DD turns 5 tomorrow! And she and her brother were both so great this weekend.

Vent: DD wants a pet for her birthday. She really wanted a dog but was willing to accept a cat. DH doesn't want one. He says it's too much added responsibility that will fall to him. For God's sake, it's a cat, not another baby.

Vent: We had friends over yesterday and they didn't leave until almost 8 at night. We thought they were getting ready to leave earlier, but when their son asked if he could get back in the pool they said "sure!" That's my kids bedtime. It's not a huge deal, and I loved having them, I was so tired when they left.

Vent: DH is out of town until Wednesday night. Not a big deal except I can't fit workouts into my schedule when he's OOT.

Celebration: DH is out of town until Wednesday night. Popcorn and wine for dinner for me!

Vent: After being out of town all weekend I will be playing catch up at home this week. I hate starting off the week feeling like I’m behind. I also have a ton of stuff to do to get ready for DD’s birthday party on Saturday.
Celebration: DD’s birthday is this week. She is really looking forward to it and it is really cute how excited she is. I’m also enjoying drinking my coffee in peace after the kids were a hot mess yesterday from lack of sleep and eating junk all weekend.

mommyatty , after I told DD she couldn’t have a dog she is now asking for a “nice snake”. I would totally go the cat route.

This resonated with me too, only more often when *I'm* the one who is out of town. Food is my favorite part of business travel!

Vent: I feel like I am parenting 3 children instead of 2. I give DH credit for working hard on a project that's been on his list to build a deck for the second hand playhouse we are getting to go on. And he's not cutting corners, this thing is going to be able to support a large car. But he goes about these projects in the least efficient ways possible (multiple trips to the hardware store, forgetting things, more trips, etc.) and doesn't tackle them in reasonable chunks. So I feel like I spent the entire weekend making food for everyone, cleaning up from meals, entertaining kids to keep them out of the way, tidying up the yard, etc. on top of the projects I had.

I could have written this. This is EXACTLY how my DH handles projects. It drives me insane. I'm all about planning, figuring out what we need, getting the necessary tools, working in manageable chunks of time so we don't start making stupid mistakes because we're so over it. DH dives in headfirst and figures things out as he goes. Needless to say, we do NOT work well together.

Vent: I am so tired. The old house took so much to finally get out me I don't get why, but it did. The window people screwed us and we had to fix their mess. DH was there til 2am one night. I have been doing all of his normal chores too, and solo parented DD all weekend. He finally was able to play with her about 30 min last night. At least we are done. Next we need to build storage areas in the storage room so we can have the mobile storage unit delivered and empty it. We aren't even done putting the stuff already here yet, not even close. It doesn't help that the dog has a shy bladder or whatever and we don't have a fence. I am walking her 5-7 times a day on weekends.

Celebration: In 45 minutes we close on the sale of our house. Prayers and fingers crossed that the walk through is acceptable and we get down to only one house. OMG!

Vent: We redecked our porch this weekend. I am freaking exhausted!! And I am so with you sweetptater and saraml13 DH goes about projects the same way, so we end up fighting when I tell him to stop and plan, or when I tell him how to do things. I am an engineer so I have some brains behind this, but because I'm not a guy DH likes to think he knows it all, so frustrating!!! I am so glad it's done!

Celebration: Only one week of work stands between me and vacation! I can not wait!!

Celebration: This week starts our work summer where we get to work from home one planned day a week! I love my Wednesday's at home, makes the week go so much faster!

Yeah, this weekend was just a mess of poor planning.  Just getting the lumber for this project has been a two weekend activity.  Our only car is a Honda Civic, and instead of just spending the $20 to rent a pickup truck from the hardware store, he's made multiple trips to fit all the wood into our car. It's a big hassle since he has to take out the car seats, put the seats all the way down, and tie down the trunk with wood sticking out. 

Saturday he went out to get fitted for a tux for a wedding he's in, buy the remainder of the wood he needed, and pick up lunch.  But he got started too late so he skipped the tux fitting, and even then lunch was later than ideal for DS1.  

Sunday, after much work on this project he realized he was missing 2 pieces of wood because he somehow left them at the hardware store.  So he went back out on another trip to get his tux fitting and go back to the hardware store (generally in the same direction), as we were approaching getting ready to go to my sister's house for my dad's birthday.  He had already reinstalled the carseat from Saturday and I had loaded the trunk up with baby gear to take to my pregnant sister, but he had to pull all that out.  He got the tux fitting done, then came back here because he couldn't find the receipt for the wood.  He tore apart the car and the house for a good 10 minutes looking for it.  I finally volunteered to look and found the receipt within 15 seconds of getting in the car - shoved into the cup holder between the front seats.  So off again he went to get the 2 missing pieces of wood.  Then we had to scramble to get carseats and baby gear back in the car and race out the door.

Vent: "If I Die Young" by the Band Perry came on the radio as I was driving into work today. Thanks a lot universe.

Vent2: They still haven't called to schedule her surgery. Don't they realize I want everything lined up ASAP???

Celebration: Yesterday was our 7th anniversary.

Vent: My second postpartum period is about to start.

Vent2: I only have 3 more Mondays left of my maternity leave, it has flown by way too fast, even though I was lucky enough to extend it with summer vacation.

Vent: on Friday DH has to appear in person to pay a speeding ticket, then has an in person interview at 9:30, and is supposed to pick up DD from camp 1.5 hours away by 12:30, so we can leave for vacation by 3:00. He scheduled allll of these things. And is now unbearably stressed. I can't take time off to
pick up DD and she's leaving early so we can go on vaca, so she can't get a ride. And I can't
pick her up Thursday because I have to get the vaca roof box installed and DH doesn't land until 10 PM.

Celebration: we get to go on vacation on Friday. I can't wait! Also, DS is home today having a play date while his friend's mom
drives a car full of girls to camp. The boys are being so good and I have actually gotten more work done than normal on a Monday morning - I started at 6 as a hedge and it worked.

Celebration: We had an awesome weekend at home. DH's cousin and boyfriend came over Friday night for pizza and games. We stayed up way too late but it was so nice to do something with another couple. Then Saturday, DH took care of all the yard work and trimming our bushes. We set up the tent and camped in the backyard with a bonfire. Kids thought it was the best. I have to pee every other hour so I slept in the house which turned out to be the best idea since the air mattress had a hole in it. Then we went to a movie, lunch and mini golfing on Sunday.

Vent: I'm not sleeping well due to the frequent peeing and I think I have varicose veins which is a first for me. I'm nervous because my leg hurts pretty bad and I have a long ways to go.

I started a book Saturday evening an got so engrossed that I read the entire thing and was up past 1am then couldn't sleep so finally crashed about 4am and DH decided to wake me up at 8am as he was leaving to go run the river with friends. I'm so tired...

I am not cut out to be a stay at home mom! I've had DD with me since the 4th and between trying to work, do house stuff, and entertain a 6 year old I'm about ready to scream. I was almost jumping for joy when I walked out of the door this morning and DD was chatting her sitters head off. It didn't help that DH decided to work on Saturday all day and then had plans with friends all day Sunday so I didn't get any downtime.

Vent-teenagers seem to be super flaky. I have an almost 13 year old watching DD today and it was so easy as I worked everything out with mom too. I had a 15 year old schedule for Tuesday and was so stoked to have everything covered. She texted me 2 hours later and forgot she has a standing therapy appointment and group support meetings on Tuesday...so I had to go back to the drawing board.

Vent: I'm on vacation for another week and we still don't know where we're going. We were going to leave tomorrow or Wednesday. I had suggested driving to San Francisco which is about 14 hours away, with stops in Portland and Ashland, OR. A week ago DH said he didn't want to do that, so I looked at other options. Now he says the trip to San Francisco is ok, but the hotel prices are outrageous. And I think he just agreed to go because I said it was ok to help his coworker/friend out again. We can afford the hotel prices, but I just don't want to spend that much since my savings has taken a hit recently for some big expenses we had. I'm tempted to go back to work early to save PTO.

Celebration: Last week which DH was at his conference, DS and I went to a steakhouse that I've been wanting to try for years. It was a $100 lunch for the two of us but it was worth the splurge. I'll be dreaming about my steak for years to come. We had a good time and ended our mini trip with fun at the Mariners game. I got to meet one of the tv personalities before the game with DS and she was so nice. I posted the pic of us on IG and it was one of the pictures they showed post game on tv. We had DVR'd the game, so it was pretty cool to see it on tv.

freezorburn, I think it was you that suggested Holy Cannoli? A little bit of a challenge to get there since the street they're on is under construction, but so worth it! Thank you for the recommendation. We'll be making more stops there in the future.

Vent: my house is a disaster. I have no idea how the play room got so bad in what was basically one day.

Good: We had a lovely weekend. But where did the time go? And I don't have time to clean tonight.

Vent: I signed up for a race this weekend and I really wish I hadn't. It means the next 3 weekends are going to be busy. I could use a day off just to get my life together. But I really can't take a day off for that right now so...oh well. I'll just try and not look at my house some how.

Another vent: I keep accidentally going over to TCF out of habit. And then I realize where I am and have to plug something different into the search bar. Sad.

Celebration: My cleaning lady came today. I about cried when I walked in my house for lunch after my meeting. I texted her and told her I missed her so much.

I don't really have much to report. Still on maternity leave/summer break. DD's last day of daycare was Friday. We hosted her birthday party on Saturday at the neighborhood pool with all of her neighborhood friends. She's home with us Mon-Wed, then DH takes her to IL's house Thursday for what will be a 2.5 week stay for her. H and I will get a week by ourselves and the baby before driving down to join.
