I hope Sessions is just sitting at his desk, all "nope. Not moving."
I think he can still fire sessions though.... But that would certainly fall in the evidence category of "obstruction of justice" since he's made it clear he's upset with SEssions about the Russian recusal. Not that he even cares about that, so he may fire him anyway. I thought this idea may just be a trial balloon when I initially heard it, but it seems to be sticking around & elevating with Trump's increasing berating of Sessions. My guess is that it doesn't happen until Congress is out so he can exercise a recess appointment.
Wasn't there something about Obama's recess appointments being invalidated by SCOTUS?

Eh, I am fine if Trump overplays his hand because I don't think it will work in his favor, and I will never ever pull for Sessions to be AG. It is a shitshow for sure but I will lose zero sleep if sessions loses a job he was never fit to have in the first place.

agreed & great point...it would be lovely if they would just screw each other & the are both losers in this situation

Here are this mornings' tweets
THE PRESIDENT CONTINUES TO PUBLICLY BERATE HIS ATTORNEY GENERAL -- at 6:03 a.m.: "Ukrainian efforts to sabotage Trump campaign - 'quietly working to boost Clinton.' So where is the investigation A.G. @seanhannity" ... at 6:12 a.m.: "Attorney General Jeff Sessions has taken a VERY weak position on Hillary Clinton crimes (where are E-mails & DNC server) & Intel leakers!" ... at 6:21 a.m.: "Problem is that the acting head of the FBI & the person in charge of the Hillary investigation, Andrew McCabe, got $700,000 from H for wife!"
I hope Sessions is just sitting at his desk, all "nope. Not moving."
Yup, I think Sessions is digging in his heels and is going to make Trump fire him.
I don't want Sessions as AG so I'm not going to lose any sleep if Trump fires him*, but I am finding this whole power play kind of amusing. Trump doesn't WANT to fire him. He wants him to resign and I kind of love that Sessions is just like, NOPE.
*the one thing that makes me worried about sessions being replaced is how it would impact Mueller's investigation.
Yeah, I have no tears to shed over Jeff Sessions's feelings. I know, he could appoint someone equally awful in his place, but Sessions can be humiliated all day every day and I won't feel bad about it.
I think 45's new attorney probably told him to stay off Twitter and shut up about Russia so he's working extra hard to do the opposite, as is his way.

This morning on MJ they showed a quote from Trump in the days following the election where he said that the country needed to move on from HRC and her e-mails. So. There's that.
Sessions is a garbage human, but I doubt that he will leave this position voluntarily. He stepped down from a cushy position in the senate and has no shame otherwise. Why would he leave?

Sessions is trying to squash any hope of criminal justice reform and is competent enough to ruin many lives irreparably, so I won't be sorry to see him out. However, I shudder to think who comes next. Jesus fuck.
It does give me lots of satisfaction that Sessions is getting berated by the guy he backed before anyone else did. Fuck you, Jefferson, you of the Keebler Klan.
I laughed yesterday when Trump took and/or mentioned everyone in his cabinet who were involved in Boy Scouts, except no mention of Sessions, who was an Eagle Scout.
I picture both of these assholes, the elf and the rancid orange, being drug out from behind desks that they never should have touched in the first place. #mydream4usall

Bigger picture, I am worried about what this move would mean for our country/democracy. But we already elected Trump, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
But yeah, I will definitely be laughing if the KKKeebler Elf gave up his safe senate seat, only to be fired within 7 months on the job. Couldn't happen to a better guy!
But seriously, who would be stupid enough to take this job? He fired the FBI director. He fired the press secretary. And let's be real, the comms director leaving probably wasn't voluntary. What on earth would possess anyone to think they would last more than a year in this position? At this point, anyone who accepts the position deserves any abuse Trump heaps upon him.
My only fear with Sessions being fired/resigned is that it is one more step towards Mueller being fired.
This. If a new AG comes in they won't be reused from Russia and will take over supervising the special counsel. If he does a recess appointment I would expect the new AG to be a lackey who gets rid of Mueller in short order. TBH I don't have a lot of faith that the Senate would try to ensure the AG is independent even if there is a confirmation hearing. They haven't checked Trump yet so why start now.

Remember when he said the Clintons were good people and he didn't want to hurt them? He doesn't either, apparently.
Trump also appeared to back away from his promise to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate his Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton, over her use of a private email server. Trump made such a promise during the second presidential debate against Clinton during a rhetorical duel that ended with Trump saying if he was president, "you'd be in jail."
"She did some bad things, I mean she did some bad things," Trump said, to which Stahl responded, "I know, but a special prosecutor?"
"I don't want to hurt them, I don't want to hurt them," Trump said. "They’re, they’re good people. I don't want to hurt them."
Jeff Sessions is a disgusting excuse for a human being. But if he is fired or resigns, we will lose Mueller. I feel like Mueller is the only one who might be able to save us at this point.
Guys, I hate to say it, but we don't want Trump firing Sessions.
I had been operating on the assumption that he'd have to get his new pick Approved by the senate, so there would be a few months before Mueller got fired, and a lot could happen in three months.
But Maddow pointed out last night that Trump can make a recess appointment. That person would get the job until Jan 3, 2019.
Trump is currently considering Giuliani and Ted Cruz for the job.
Wasn't there something about needing Congressional approval to fire Mueller? I can't recall anymore, but I swear we discussed how he can't just be fired for no reason. Regardless, I have no doubt that Mueller has already anticipated such a move and has some sort of a plan.

Didn't Giuliani work for the Trump campaign?? Wouldn't he have the same or similar conflicts of interest that would require he recuse himself? (not that he automatically would do the right thing, but I don't think there is a requirement to recuse, it's only voluntary). Seems like it would be better to be somebody not involved in his campaign.
The more that hte media plays this up as Trump v. Sessions, I think the more it feeds into trump wanting/needing to fire Sessions.

somebody posted a really simple chart a while back...it's basically that Mueller can only be fired FOR CAUSE. Now, can they make up some bullshit thing & say it's legitimate, sure.... Would any reasonable, non-partisan person believe that somehow the most respected man in our entire country's intelligence & law enforcement community is somehow not doing his job...hell no. But again...what would be the consequences?? the only thing Congress can do is impeach, so they'd have to think that 1- firing Sessions 2- firing Mueller were both in attempts to obstruct justice and (continue) collusion with Russia???
My only fear with Sessions being fired/resigned is that it is one more step towards Mueller being fired.
This. And on Rachel last night, she pointed out that if he can get the timing right for getting Sessions out, he could hypothetically use a recess appointment while congress is home in August to bypass hearings/approval on a new nominee who will oust Mueller. Which sends us FLYING down a slippery and frightening slope.
