I know someone with 3 kids with names that all start with K. When they were expecting #3 we all had to laugh that you can't get any personalized jewelry. This person really wanted a 3rd K name to keep with the them. Looking back this person hasn't denouced Trump, so I have to side eye this.
PDQ
The fuck!? There is no way I would not change at least one of my names as soon as I was legally able.
We are debating on letting our 10 year old take the PSAT in the winter. She was invited to take a special session with other gifted students. She will likely he the youngest in the group.
What's the debate?
I see no drawback.
My brother and I both did this.
Way back in the late 90s I mentored a group of kids that took it at the local college. They were 11, 12 (6th grade) at the time. I managed a gifted program at the school, these 10 or so kids were in a special fast-track section of math and world languages. It was fine. I still remember those kids--it was my first year teaching. They were amazing children.
There's no way that giving your kids the initials KKK is an accident. No fucking way.
Right? My sister and I both have first names that start with K. My parents refused any middle names that start with K on the off chance one of us would someday have married last names that start with K leading to an unintentional KKK married initials which at the time seemed like a very long shot.
My sister's married last name does start with a K so it was good planning.

Same here. H's name starts with a K as do both of our DD's. Their middle initials are definitely not K's.
At one point I had 3 kids 4 and under (4, 2 and newborn). I did it, and I don't think I even realized at the time how crazy it was. My youngest is now 3, and I am JUST NOW coming out of the fog of it all. But looking back it was crazy. Too many small needy kids.
Same here, my oldest turned 4 in May 11 and my youngest was born in July 11 - there was a middle kid too! The fog lasted awhile and it was physically exhausting. Now they are 10/8/6 and I am completely mentally exhausted all.the.time.
Regarding last names as first names- any Sex and the City fans bothered by the fact that Miranda gave her son the baby-daddy's last name- Brady. But then she ends up marrying him, so the kid possibly ended up with the name Brady Brady. This was never addressed! And I guess it's flameful that I even noticed/care this many years later.
Regarding the "Supreme Court test" or whatever else people call it- So True, I mean, who could possibly Imagine someone in a position of prestige being named Barack or Condoleezza, psh!
I think he probably had her last name I don't remember if they said or if I just assumed at the time, but I think that's why she gave him that first name - so he'd have both parents' names, even though they weren't married.
Along those lines, I adopted a shelter dog named Buck when I was dating someone whose last name was Buck. I ended up marrying him (and divorcing him, so that's not my name anymore) so for a while I had a dog named Buck Buck. I felt so dumb when I'd call and make a grooming appointment lol.

No way that Miranda changed her or the baby's last name after they got married. None.

I think she named their son Brady Hobbes...she gave the kid her last name and she kept her maiden name.
I used to work with a woman named Toyette. Months after she was hired, our VP introduced her to someone as "Toy-LET." So for months, he thought her name was toilet.

A wife of a Howard Stern employee is named Christy Christie. Not sure how she spells her name.
I did not know this was a thing. And I'm baffled by it.
I didn't know it was, either, and I live in the south. I don't know anyone who's done that. The most I have seen is using a maiden name as a middle name.
I've seen girls in the South not be given middle names bc the maiden becomes the middle when they marry ... Annie Baker at birth becomes Annie Baker Cook upon marriage.

the Brady Hobbes thing never phased me bc it's a PITA to change a last name. Nothing wrong w being a 2 (or 3) last name family.
I will say this though ... I dated a guy whose ln was my first name ( his was cy, mine cey) people thought it would be hilarious if we got married and my name would be cey cy 🙄 Sorry folks, already decided regardless of who I marry, my ln stays put lol
Oh ok. I really hate it when people say a woman is like a man just because she's confident or self assured.. Steve was such a loser but I always see people criticizing Miranda.
She was already the guy in the relationship anyway.
Wtf?
I feel like a lot of shit in the SATC cannon wouldn't hold up well today. At least we've progressed (in some ways) in the last 20 years since the show's debut?
Also, and this is sort of related, but I ordered the kid a bunch of old Bernstein Bears books for the kid out of nostalgia and damn do some of them suck. In "No Girls Allowed", for example, the mom bear asks the dad bear, "how would you feel if a girl ran faster than you or climbed higher than you" or some shit as if that was a valid reason why brother should have excluded sister bear- because she was a girl who was better at sports. Pissed me off. Also didn't realize what a bumbling fool dad bear is all the time, and mom is so sanctimonious!

DH and I were in grad school in Arkansas when we got married, and a friend of mine was really surprised I did't use my maiden name as my middle name. I'd never heard of the tradition. Of course, it would have prevented my initials from being KFC, which is what they are now.

Not southern, but this is why my parents didn't give any of the girls in my family middle names.
I don't think I would ever bestow my maiden name on a child as a first name. Though it is the first name of the original manufacturer of a well known school supply, so it used to be a first name, though not terribly common. I think that is suitably vague, lol.

I'm watching Gilmore Girls or the first time and i raise my eyebrows A LOT during that show.
Berenstain!
Berenstein is a false memory from a parallel universe

I stumbled upon an episode of the Brady Bunch the other weekend. It was a battle of the sexes episode where Carol and Mike switched household duties. I had to change it.
I'm judging my friend for worrying about what others think in regards to her new "relationship". They have been dating maybe 2 weeks, playing house a lot (I know!!! I see it from the other side) and she was more worried about OTHER PEOPLE seeing and how many likes she got on her relationship status change on FB.
I don't think she liked my dose of reality when I was like "hey, do you care about the likes or do you care about the dude?" I don't think she was expecting it from me. My dude and I aren't even FB friends, I don't care what people think, but she's talking about in the future him possibly moving in. She has 2 boys who are 3rd/4th grade and newly divorced. I'm really thinking this is a rush to get who can pretend they are happiest first with her and her XH. It's just a train wreck.

In my family, the children get the mother's maiden name as a middle name. When I got married, I changed my middle name to be my maiden name. My H also did this (his middle name is my maiden name). The girls will also have my maiden name as their middle name.

Do you realize you started by saying you judged her for worrying about what other people think....and then followed by trashing her relationship? Lol.
Yeahhhhhh. I realized that. To be blatantly honest, I've been judging her reasons for "dating", why the necessity to make it Facebook official & when it was official on FB she was like "Why hasn't anyone on his side liked it..". It is just a shitton of red flags that I see and I'm really wondering why she's with him. It's just moving so so so fast and I don't want to sit by idly watching it crash and burn. She's too good of a person to just settle for wanting to be the "first" or have this competition with her XH. I love her, I just wish she loved herself as much as her friends do.
Speaking of names, on the way home from vacation last Saturday my eye was hurting badly. So badly, that we stopped in bubblefuck maryland at an urgent care. The PA was great, I had a cornea abrasion, and she called me in meds. I pick them up and see that her full name is Gelina Regina. Gelina Regina. Poor thing. All I thought about were how fucking shitty kids are growing up.
I took my maiden name as my middle name when I got married. And took H’s last name.
My daughter’s middle name is actually my mother’s maiden name, but mostly because I was very close to my maternal grandmother, and she HATED her first and middle name, so this seemed like the best way to honor her.
My daughter’s first name came from cleo29. Her daughter is a year older than mine, I think. When I was pregnant and stuck on names, I shamelessly “stole” the name.
