We had water in our house but not much. It actually came from our back yard not from the street, just like it did a couple times prior. I'm actually thrilled with how our drainage worked the last couple days. Unfortunately I just walked my back yard and its inundated as are the streets around us. It's Sunday now and it's supposed to rain the next two days at least - maybe the rest of the week - so by the end we may have water in our house.
Lots of people around us on the other side of a bigger thoroughfare from our home have flooded. Some of them have flooded a lot a lot, with water on the 2nd floor. Crazy.
My sister and niece just left a few hours ago to try to get to Rhode Island. They are driving west b/c you can't go east in houston. They'll have to go west to san antonio and then up to dallas, although they may have to go further west than that before they can go north.
mustardseed2007, sounds like it is going ok but more rain coming. Keep us posted. Do you have power? Let us know if you need anything or end up evacuating.

We've kept power this whole time (knock on wood).
And we're in the middle the middle of a dry spot right now. Literally if you look at the radar we are white with green in a circle around us. We need respites like this so things can drain. I feel really fortunate so far but hopefully our luck doesn't run out :/

San Antonio didn't really get hit at all. It's rainy here but hasn't even really been bad rain. We have family in Victoria and they have property in Port O Connor and others have property in rock port. The POC homes took some damage but are ok. Victoria doesn't have power and probably won't for a while. Rockport was hit pretty hard. A Cat 4 hurricane is no joke.

My sister is crossing over into Shereveport so it seems like she avoided all the water!!!
A huge chunk of a neighborhood thoroughfare collapsed into a sink hole which is so surreal to see. A lot of the area is under water and people are flooded out in my area. My immediate neighborhood, though, remains ok. Seriously knock on all the wood, and say all the prayers!!!
I've mentioned before that I work in hospitality and a lot of my company's properties are totally under water. We have a few employees stranded at work but for the most part we actually kept everything closed.
I'm concerned about the kid's daycare. I haven't heard a thing from them. If they are following the public school district in our area, they will be closed the next couple of days. But it may be under water and the staff may be under water which may be why we haven't heard anything. The school itself is close by and they are in a low spot and use sump pumps during any kind of heavy rain. And it's an independent operation owned by one family. I feel so bad for them.
Last, where is 2chatter? I've always gotten the impression that she's generally north of me and that area is in the yellow and red so I hope she's ok :/
I'm in Dallas, so we are well away from the weather. It's manifesting as a cool front here. The images coming out of Houston are so scary. mustardseed2007 prayers for sure!

Hi Ladies. I'm in West Houston, near the Addicks reservoir but not in the spill over area or watershed. Still dry and with power, which is just miraculous. On the other side of the road from us people are under tons of water. My husband, who is not a social person or an outdoorsy person, is out with neighbors in kayaks rescuing people. Someone just texted me a picture of him kayaking down a very major street. So bizarre.
No one in my family has lost their home...which I almost want to whisper b/c I can't believe it will stay that way.
My sister is still on her way up to Rhode Island, she was in Tennessee today so she's safe.
My cousin...not related to the flooding but during all of this, has very unexpectedly lost his wife to pancreatitis. Together they have 2 twin girls, age 14. Just so very sad.
@mustardseed2017 I am so glad to see this update. I saw Addicks and my heart dropped into my stomach. So relieved for you! Hearing what your DH is doing is amazing. My nephew is there with the National Guard and it's hard work. His job during Katrina was tagging the homes with people who didn't survive so their remains could be picked up - I keep thinking that at least so far, that isn't happening in Houston. It's amazing.

Not to be terribly morbid, but for my cousin I am just so grateful that he was able to get his wife to a hospital before she passed away so she did not die in their home during all of this.
DH just got back. The national guard is here and he was helping them. The guardsmen were from Nebraska. It looks like they've gotten almost everyone out of the homes and apartments nearby. Although people are saying we won't flood, it is really nerve wracking to be that close to that much high water. But the sun is out and it's not raining.

mustardseed2007, so glad to hear you are safe and dry and that it wasn't raining as of your last update yesterday. I'm so sorry to hear about your cousin's wife.
OMG mustardseed2007, I am so glad you are safe and dry and have power. I hope it stays that way! So impressed with your husband rescuing people. Many prayers for your family and neighbors, and sorry for the loss of your cousin's wife.
