The new ensemble forecast looks very bad. Â I hope it is wrong! Â NHC will update its prediction at 5 and we'll see the official take on this. Â Hugs to everyone in the Southeast
Oh please no. That has it hammering Atlanta. Where is this sourced from?

No kidding! All my family is evacuating from the coast to my house in Atlanta!

I got it off the Weather Underground site. It's a prediction based on the latest european model, which shifts Irma west - but it's by no means the final consensus. However the Euro model has been the most accurate in predicting the storm's path so far.

I haven't caught up in this thread in days but I'm here at Disney now. We were originally scheduled to come home on Sunday, flying southwest, but this morning we got an alert to change our flights because MCO is shutting down as of 5 pm Saturday. We are now stuck riding out Irma. I rebooked us on a Tuesday evening flight. I had tried to get us out earlier the day we arrived but everything was already sold out. We will continue to stay here at the Wilderness Lodge and hope for the best. I hope our Amazon order of diapers and wipes come tomorrow. Front desk said they have a stockpile but who knows how much. I'm also stocking up on uncrustables kids meals for my kiddos to eat.

Disney will take care of you, I'm sure. If you can, try to get to a store if you need anything else now while the getting is good. Stores are constantly restocking since we're under a state of emergency. If you don't have a car, I'd grab an Uber. Think about doing laundry by noon on Saturday, sink washing, or buying some spare things. Saturday night should be the first bands of rain so it will get increasingly difficult to leave once those start. Until then, enjoy the parks!!
I don't think you have to worry about much structural damage inland in Atlanta. It's the storm surge that's going to be worse, actually, if Irma makes landfall toward the East Coast as earlier predicted.
I am absolutely no expert. I'm just geeking out on weather right now because I'm writing a short story about a meteorologist. The NHS advisory at 5 will be the best advice to follow. But I thought if anyone was wavering about what to do they might want the latest info.

I'm sure they will take care of you and that they built their buildings to be really really strong, but I will be thinking of you and hoping for the best. Be safe!
I am mandatory evacuation zone A. We are flying out today anyway .
I am glad you guys are getting out! I think your post was one I saw on FB about mandatory evacuation. secretlyevil , most of our friends are in South Tampa and you know that entire area floods easily. Stay safe! The pics and reports from St. Martin, Barbuda, and now Puerto Rico are horrifying on so many levels. Â
These maps are a bit less frightening. Much smaller chance of getting hurricane force winds outside of SE Florida. Obviously winds aren't everything though.
The main airport in PR Aereopuerto Luis Muñoz MarÃn has opened. This afternoon only Jet Blue flights are going out but tomorrow all airlines are going to be working.
Our local paper said people are evacuating to Knoxville - if anyone makes it up here PM me and I'll do whatever I can to make it a more pleasant experience.

What I'm most concerned about in Atlanta is falling trees. The big ones can do a lot of damage, although I know that's a minor concern compared to what people in the islands and South Florida are dealing with.
mskitkatmrsd2006 let us know if you need anything! My friend who was going to come stay with us decided to stay and ride it out in Homestead

TS force winds more likely of course.
These maps have been shifting as the storm moves and confidence improves.

Wait- what's the 2nd band on the lower right?? Is that Jose already??

Yes, crazy! I think it's supposed to get stuck spinning offshore for a while, not head straight for the U.S. But first it will hit the Leeward islands that just bore the full force of Irma.

They've closed our schools here in Charleston and set mandatory evacs and interstate reversals starting at 10am on Sat. Matthew sucked last year, but the info that's coming in about Irma is causing me great anxiety. Hopefully it's all for naught. At the moment, I'm so worried for those in the imminent path.
John morales has given everyone in Miami a reality check. We haven't seen him like this in a very very long time. Evacs are mandatory for zones A, B, and parts of C. we are to finish prep by tomorrow and then we hunker down and wait.

Thank you for sharing his info yesterday (I think it was you?). His twitter was how I was keeping up with stuff in PR when I wasn't hearing from family or anyone else. It was very useful to have some non-catastrophizing expertise on the issue and someone actually talking about PR. <3

Thank you! I went through Homestead very shortly after Andrew. I've still never seen anything like that. I hope your friend is OK.

Just got a text that they got mandatory evacuation orders, so he's going to stay with a friend in Port Richie (northwest of Tampa) but some models show that area getting hit hard too. I think he's just really afraid of getting stuck on the road in his unreliable car. Ugh.

I was wondering how you were doing and if you were going to try and leave early. Stay safe!
My mom's 90 year old godmother just had her flight cancelled from Miami to NJ. That was this afternoon. She left the FL Keys to come get shelter. Ugh. It is just all a hot mess.

Just got alert on my Disney TA group that Disney is shutting down at 5 on Saturday. You will be safe and taken care off. Try to stock up on snacks for the room though.
My in-laws are in central FL, so I'm concerned but not too worried, especially since they have a storm shelter built into their house. My SIL, their daughter, lives just outside of Tampa but since she's married to a prepper, they're staying put last I heard.

is disney taking reservations? can people evacuate to their buildings & shelter in orlando??? I assume their buildings are good to withstand a storm.
