Would they really fight? I mean I know of cock fighting of course. But I wasn't sure if those were like amped up pissed off roosters or however they do that. Or if your normal rooster would just fight like that.

No idea, I'm also a city girl. I just thought the "burritos" were funny.
I actually have to get at least one more cat carrier, now that you mention it ... because I have three and, while they all get along, there's probably no way they'd all share our one large carrier without a fight. My contingency plan until then is to throw one or two of them into their own pillowcases if we need to evacuate in a hurry.

I tried to do this once and my cat shedded the pillowcase (was trying to get her on the case to put her in the carrier).

They would.
But also probably wrapped up so they won't flap all over the car while it's being driven and also so they don't poop everywhere!
I cannot imagine their turmoil on this. If you don't get them to safety, you're basically issuing their death warrant. If you get them out of harms way, you're kind of violating their free will. How awful.

This falls into the "ask forgiveness, not permission" sort of category for me.
They can sue for a violation of rights once the storm passes and they're alive. Better than risking the life of them AND first responders trying to save them in the midst of a storm.
Yeah, my SIL swears up and down it will be a cat 2 before it crosses the state. I guess she's forgetting all of that warm water it needs to travel that will likely re-energize it. I do hope it powers down and doesn't hit any more areas with such intensity but that seems less and less likely.
The graphic on the front page of WaPo right now has a comparison of Irma, Katrina, Harvey, and Andrew in terms of size and energy. You can see it without clicking if you're out of stories.

Some roosters are aggressive, especially around other roosters. I have hens and one rooster. He's pretty mellow. He's docile, and let's my kids pick him up.
Even if they didn't fight, they would shit everywhere, and flap themselves silly.

Motherfucker.
This is going to be catastrophic. I've been saying for a few days that I think Naples is going to get slammed and I really feel that Irma will make landfall somewhere near there, which really is the worst case scenario for Florida.
My stepdad stayed in Ft. Myers, and mom evacuated to Brandon with my grandfather to be with my sister and her three kids, along with a dog (and my sister's two cats).
I've been urging them for days to prepare and they didn't take me seriously and they have the privilege and the means to do something about it and they blew me off. Now they're either scrambling (mom and sis) or hunkering down (stepdad). I'm so stressed about this.
I lived in the Caribbean during Hurricane Debby in 2000 and in Florida for years (including hunkering down during Charley etc. in 2004) and I have so much more anxiety now than I ever did then.

It amazes me how much they know ahead of time. I keep thinking of the Galvaston hurricane and 1900 and how they had to rely on stories from ships about weather they witnesses.
H's grandfather lives near about an hour north of Tampa, near the coast. He is staying with his partner. I know they are well north, but seeing that "Still a Cat 4" is making me nervous.
The storms have been horrific. I hope all of you and your loved ones find safe places to go. It's just heartbreaking to witness.
GOOD NEWS. My sister and her fiance have finally agreed to evacuate. I guess the westward moving storm scared them straight. They aren't heading out until tomorrow, but at least they are going.
I sent my mom some money today so she could get supplies, if there's anything left. She has 2 places she can evacuate to but either way she'll probably be on her own unless my brother stays with her instead of with friends.
She's in North Ft. Myers so if it stays like this I am really worried the manufactured home she lives in will be gone. She rents and I am positive she doesn't have any kind of insurance so she could lose almost everything. I know she's planning to put family heirlooms, documents, and photos in her car but it is missing a window so unless it's in a garage I am not sure how much that will help.

I had to change my TV channel earlier lest I threw the remote through it. Some chucklefuck on the 26th floor of a Miami beachfront highrise was being interviewed and he was staying. He could see a giant crane out a few yards off his balcony, he had no shutters or plywood. But hey, those canned goods and Pop-tarts should suffice. ::rage::

If she has a dishwasher tell her to put it there. I've read about that several times today. I hope eveything goes well for her.
