Old info: We close on the sale of our existing home tomorrow. It's exciting and sad all in one. This is the home I brought both my babies home to.
New question: The elementary closest to our house (a couple blocks) is not in our district. Our school is a bit over a mile away. Would you go through the hassle of attempting an interdistrict transfer? Both schools are great schools either way.
Work update: The software finally updated so we can process tax returns that the 2/9 extender affected. I will be so happy to get paid by all the people who we've been holding their taxes waiting for this damn extender bill.
DD/Gymnastic update: She got to ring the bell yesterday. Big deal everyone in the gym claps and you only get to do it when you finally get a new skill. She did her bridge kick over!!! Talked with her coach and we now get homework after practice to work on the couple skills we need to move up (strength, coordination, etc.). Plan is to go to open gym Friday night to get some more bar time.
New: DD is getting an achievement award during the school assembly next Friday at 1pm. No way I can make it so I asked grandma to fill in. Why can't they do these assemblies that they want parents to attend first thing in the morning or right before school gets out? Also when has this become a thing?
mommyatty, turn your phone off tomorrow and don't check emails Take a day OFF! You can do it!

I wouldn't unless you really wanted them to walk to school. Check on the bussing situation for both schools. Some wont bus if you are too close and I am wondering if a mile is too close or not. I assume with the two block one that they don't bus to your house.

3 days until DH and I's mini trip by ourselves! It'll only be 48 hours, but I'm so looking forward to it! *happy dance*
Random: DD (2.5) has become really commanding lately. DH called this morning to tell me that he had his office den door opened and asked her to go in and give him a hug when she walked by, she turned to him, all serious, and said: "no daddy, you should be working" and closed the door on him. LOL
k3am, our district had to implement some wonky district lines because some schools were getting super crowded and others had empty classrooms. Both schools were good, but ours has 22-25 kids in a 3rd grade class vs another school that has 16-18. Are the class sizes easy to access? It's been really hard for parents to get it around here.

This is my thought too. Plus, because this is your forever home (yay!), it may be best from a future perspective to send them to the school in your district. That way, they will continue on to middle school with friends and familiar faces, and you won't need to learn a whole new district.

MIL was supposed to get home yesterday from her trip to WDW with SIL and SIL's family. I won't see her until Saturday, though, so I won't have an update until then (and that is assuming she comes to DS's basketball game). DD wants to FaceTime with cousins, though, so if we're able to connect with SIL and cousins this weekend, then I'll have their side too.

I leave for my work trip on Monday. It's supposed to snow one of the days, so boots it is.
I've been on Zoloft for almost a month now. I have my follow up appointment tomorrow. So far I'm feeling better and not so down all of the time. But I'm still constantly tired, not motivated, yet anxious about not being motivated. So I'll be bring that up with my doctor.
I'm off in an hour for a dentist appointment (that was cancelled last month due to the hygienist being sick) and I won't be back in my office for 10 days. I'm excited to have a break because I'm burned out on work.
k3am - intradistrict transfers here reset by school, so kids have to reapply for junior high and senior high. If those two elementaries go to the same junior high and high school it’s not an issue. I’d look into the frequency of application and chances of rejection. DD lost two good friends when they didn’t make the junior high cut.
Also, where do the kids on your street go? I’d send to that school. Here you can tell by yard signs - if you can’t, see if the hood has a FB Page or ask on NextDoor.
k3am, Are you going to need to do before or after care? If so start looking now and that may help decide on school choice. Here most schools have pretty easy to acquire aftercare but there is only one place that offers both. I had to make my school choice based on having care available for both. School starts close to 9 for most of the elementary school near me. Will DD ever walk herself to elementary school alone?

Because it's the dividing line for the district, the elementaries each feed into different districts.
The website is vague - it's not 100% clear if interdistrict transfers require reapplication each year, but the transfer is valid for K-5 only. ("Inter and Intra district Transfers for Elementary school students are valid for Kindergarten through 5th grade. A new request will need to be made for students entering Middle School.")

We will definitely need after care, possibly before care. Both schools have it onsite, but neither has gotten back to me about pricing or availability.
I am not averse to her walking herself to elementary alone, but definitely not in kinder. (I started walking by myself - much farther - during kinder. My mom was... trusting? Brave? Stupid? All three? It was different times.)
k3am, Our aftercare/ before care registration opened up. So you may want to register as soon as they get back to you. Aftercare/ before care isn't really a problem but we have half day Kindergarten, and they do the other half day and that fills up quickly. And aftercare fills up quickly in some places.
waverly, it's frustrating because we can't do anything until after we've closed on this house. As it is, we have to transfer bank statements and other billing items to the new house before we move in order to have the necessary proof of residence.

Its the last day of my last sales season as an agent!! We wrote the policy for the first dickhead's uncle yesterday, so that was a sweet little victory. My brother admitted yesterday that he is terrified of not being able to depend on me for the first time since 2010. I have a feeling my involvement in the summer season is going to be more than I was anticipating, but it will be fine. I'm going to spend the next 3 months helping him get as set up as possible for this business without me. I keep reminding him it isn't always going to be THIS hard. Never again will he have to worry about an employee leaving and then racing to the clients first.
I posted my resume on Indeed this morning. I'm going to start the job search by seeing if anything comes my way first, mostly just so I can get some interview practice in since I've pretty much never interviewed anywhere. If the positions at the company in town are still open in a few weeks, I'm going to apply for those and hopefully negotiate a temporary part-time schedule.
DD had her 1 year check up on Monday. Her hemoglobin was low, so we've started vitamins to get her more iron. We'll retest at her 15 month appt in June. Until then I'm trying to just avoid Google since I'm sure that will tell me things that are likely not even the issue. DS's behavior has been much better. Spring break starts next week though so we'll see if the streak of goodness will continue through all that.

Yup you have to close first because sometimes closings don't go through. People try to prove residency and then didn't end up closing on their house. Are you closing soon?

How long do you plan to live there? Would you be revisiting this question when it comes time for middle school? What would that mean for kids, in terms of being able to continue continue on school with their cohort?

We close 3/26 and then we're giving the sellers a 30 day free lease back.

Baring any catastrophes or moving out of the area, this is the forever home. There are 2-3 elementaries that feed into the middle school.
Here before and after care don’t fill up. Based on the info k3am, I would go with the school you are zoned for - especially with the uniforms! Hope the transition period goes smoothly - where will you be until the end of April after your home is sold?
And my update - Spring Break is killing me. DD10 is just obnoxious. I have to repeat myself constantly. She isn’t listening or executing against instructions - things like filling an entire frozen yogurt container when I told her not to touch the machines until I was there or being told to put away her clothes and she instead watched her iPad and hid them under her bed. She’s too old for this and I am not patient enough. DD13 and DS6 both put away their laundry. DD10 Brought me a “contract” outlining her “extra obligations” to try to sway me from pulling a sleepover. They are all things that are expected like not eating in her room or emptying the dishwasher. She’s been crying since 9:30am.
I need a break from spring break! Or a time out. In a bar.

Sweet Jesus. An update to my update I guess. My brother got a hair in his ass and went and told my biggest client, like the ONLY one I've acquired on my own and is probably our largest client, about him being their agent now and I'm still involved in some capacity but not as involved as I was, which is true for the next few months. You're probably thinking, "well erinshelley we've been telling you all along that you need to tell everyone the truth anyways" and I don't blame you.
Here's the hilarious part. 2 weeks after the Asshole quit when we were discussing the possibility of this client finding out and how we would handle the question if we were asked I told him that I would tell this client the truth because I respect them, we are friends-ish, and we have kids the same age so these people are in my life for the next 14 years at least. He all but yelled at me in the car when I said that. He's brought up telling them now, feeling like we are lying to them, etc and I told him the other day we are so close to the end of sales season that we might as well just wait and proceed with the original plan and that he might only feel like we are "lying" because the Asshole said we were.
Whatever. It's done. This client is totally fine and I was able to buy some more time on the P&C side of it since they are my biggest client on that side as well. I'm glad I brought a 6 pack of drinks to work.
I need to move on from my trip this year. Everything that could go wrong, has. And it's still lingering - just found out about more issues that occurred during the trip and they're just now coming to light. I was clueless the entire time. UGH.
Plus, a vendor just informed me that they've FORGOTTEN to invoice me for 6 months. Even though I asked specifically about it and they supposedly looked into it. My CFO loved that news.

2chatter, because we had no idea if/when we'd be able to find a place to live, we negotiated a 60 free leaseback and an option for additional months paid rent to cover the buyer's PITI payments. So we can stay in our current place until 5/16 without paying extra and can start moving into the new place 4/26. (It is.... very nice to be a seller in this area. You can basically get whatever you want. We lucked out that the people we're buying for don't need a long rent back.)
All we need to do before moving in is have an electrician run overhead lights/ceiling fans in the bedroom (my own personal bugaboo about lighting... I *need* mounted ceiling lights). We had planned on paying someone to paint DD's room purple, but my sister offered to do it as a birthday present, and DD would rather wait an undetermined amount of time and have her do it so that it's "more specialer" which basically melted my heart. That girl knows how to get me.
I spent all day in meetings and being the bookie. Only had two paper brackets to enter so I’m calling it a success. Tomorrow will be spent collecting the rest of the money. I’m still wondering how I was put in charge of this. It would be fun if it wasn’t our busiest time of year.

It depends. Do they feed into the same middle school? I would go with whichever feeds into the MS you want to be so friends can stay together. Only because it’s your forever home.

Nope. The convenience factor makes me want to go to the one by us, the friend factor wants me to stay with where we're zoned.
