I had to google ICSI 🤦🏼♀️ You’re both right, I think that makes sense. I appreciate her being thorough, but I just want answers and a plan in place.
On top of that, I looked up the costs and whoooo boy 😳 do RE’s take payment plans? I don’t have $30k just laying around unfortunately.
In my experience, it doesn't cost that much. More like 11-13K. Which is still a lot.
We started saving a year prior to our first IVF cycle which was OOP. We also had to do ICSI for crappy morphology and anti-sperm antibodies.
Unfortunately, our IVF Cycles with icsi and pgs were almost $30K each. Ouch. But yes, there are definitely payment plans! Plus, our fertilization rate using ICSI was 100% for two different Cycles (4 and 6)

My second beta today was over 600! They were hoping for at least 340, so we're thrilled! We also got the results from our pgs testing for the 4 embryos from our last retrieval. Two of the four are pgs normal!
@slk4116–my IVF with ICSI and PGS testing will end up being about 8K at CNY in NY. I’m not sure where you are, but there are cheaper places.
I’m in North Carolina. Just south of Raleigh, specifically.
The RE that my H’s andrology lab is associated with is Atlantic Reproductive Medicine. I don’t know if anyone has experience with them.
I decided last night to basically say screw the gyn, I’ll make an appt with the RE anyway. I don’t see the point of going back in for her to tell me that his morphology is super low. I already know that so I’m not going to waste the time and the cash for a meeting.
Tons of people do phone consults with CNY, monitoring at home, and fly in for their retrieval & transfer. If you look in to it, their phone consults are booking 3+ months out right now. Just as an FYI.

You'll be so much happier and less stressed when you make an appt with the RE. They know far more than the OB does when it comes to getting someone pg.
My DH's numbers are almost the same and the morphology is incredibly low. We are doing 1 cycle of IUI before moving to IVF with ICSI. IUI for us is $1800 and IVF with ICSI is 11k before meds. Meds for IUI for me were $100 and for IVF they'll be around 6k. We are also self pay and go to Shady Grove.
Start saving now if insurance isn't going to cover. We won't do IVF this year but will end up waiting until taxes since we get a large chunk back each year.
I think you made the right choice to move to an RE now, @slk4117. Best to move to the specialist and come up with a plan Do you have any fertility coverage at all? When I did IVF 3 years ago my plan covered a laughable $2K, but since I did have something, I got the negotiated rate between insurance and the practice which is less than self pay. Being located where you are, I would assume you have a few REs to choose from. May be worth it to google around and check out SART data. Good luck. I hope you're feeling optimistic now that you've made a plan to move on from the OB!
Transfer completed. We had 4 embryos!!! I’m so relieved They will watch the other 3 to see if they make it to blast by 6 days but I am thrilled with 4 embryos.

That's wonderful!! What a relief! We must have just passed each other I saw Dr S in his scrubs (did he transfer?) and thought of you! Lots of good thoughts to you!!

Ya'll. Of the 5 retrieved yesterday, four were good enough to ICSI and of those all four fertilized. 100% fertilization. Sounds like that is a good thing, right? Our next update won't be until Sunday when they let us know how many made it to PGS biopsy. Should I be requesting some other type of report? Ie: quality of eggs? They haven't give me anything else....

That’s fantastic news, woowoo! Clinics will vary, but I think the general information you’ll get is: # mature, # fertilized, # cells on day 3, and how many make it to blast on day 5. If they’re still growing on day 5, but not yet at blast, it seems common to let them try until day 6. At the blast stage, they should give you a rating, but honestly, the testing is going to tell you what you need, as the most beautiful blast could be abnormal.
It was mentioned above, but my clinic wouldn’t disturb them except at day 3 for a check, so as we did day 3 transfers, I had to come in not knowing if I had anything to transfer.
Love of my life baby boy born 11/11. One and done not by choice; 3 years of TTC yielded 4 MMC and 2 CPs, through 4 IUIs and 2 IVFs. Focusing on making the world a better place instead...and running.
My beta is currently scheduled for 7/5 (9dp5dt). However, I'm working that day (and the days before and after) so I'll be testing at home. Don't want to find out for the first time at work. On my successful cycle, I got a BFP at 7dp5dt.
cherryvalance my beta is also 6/22. That seems so far away! I'll start testing Sunday 5dp5dt (if H is on board, but if not I'll wait till Monday 6dp5dt).
