30 years from now, what are Trump fans going to say about this time? Pretend they didn’t support it? It feels like we are living in a alternate reality.

Kinzinger is the only MOC from Illinois who's breathed a word of anti-Russia sentiment. The rest of them are silent. I know what I'll be doing for the foreseeable future.

I don’t think any trump fan will regret it. He’s giving them everything they want and I don’t think they would have a problem with him becoming a dictator and would probably support it.

It genuinely makes me sick to see the deplorables acting like they have a monopoly on patriotism when their Commander-in-Cheeto is out here selling this country out. This is a slap in the face towards anyone who has served this country in any way - militarily, diplomatically, etc.

Seriously. All these Blue Lives Matters assholes cheering for our President putting down the FBI...it's like, "you do get they are law enforcement, yes?"
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”

I was having a conversation with DH the other day recalling how, nearly 15 years ago, I had been seriously considering careers at the State Dept., CIA, and FBI (made it pretty far in the interview process with one of them). Ultimately, I decided relocation just wasn't the right move for me/us and pursued a different career, but I told him how I would have bet, had I began my career at any of those divisions, that I'd be there until retirement. And this was during the GWB years, so even with all of his problems, I wanted to commit to serving the country no matter who was POTUS. But there is truly no way I could stomach the thought of working in any of those divisions under this treasonous POTUS, and our lives would likely be dramatically upended because I would have put so much stock on this career and livelihood. I feel awful for all of those people who work in this divisions (and others) who have to grapple with a decision that they never thought they'd have to make that would upend their lives and the lives of their partners and dependents. All because 62 million people (and juuuust the right number of people in WI, MI and PA) thought this was the direction the country should be taking.
I happened to catch the end of Andrea Mitchell. Analysts are anticipating an exodus of advisors who cannot align with our new foreign policy. One went so far as to say we are essentially seeing a reordering of alliances. A Republican controlled American government is a friend of Putin. That’s where we are now.
And the Republican Congress - who could do things to push back, meaningful things, like block judicial nominations or pass laws or whatever -- will do nothing more than tweet that they are "disappointed" and that Russian is not our ally, and then go right back to enabling and sucking up to 45.
ETA: just how angry I am at Congress. The vast majority, by their own admission, are of the mindset that Russia is a foe, that it attacked us with electoral interference, and it continues to be a threat. Their failure to do anything to check or reign in 45 shows that they are quite literally willing to put party over country. They are not willing to stand up to 45 in the face of an ACTUAL THREAT TO OUR NATIONAL SECURITY. What will it take? For him to actually sign something allowing us to be annexed by Russia? Would that even be enough??
At the end of the day, Russia/Putin attacked us. It wasn't with weapons or physical aggression, so it didn't fit the vision of what a lot of people see as "war" or an "attack," but that's what messing in our elections was. An attack. And it has caused so much damage to this country, and to the people here, and Russia is getting everything it has ever wanted when it comes to geopolitics.
Meanwhile there was a person who declared themselves a political independent who called CSPAN today and thanked Russia for interfering in our election to stop Hillary from being president because that would have been worse. So...that's where we are.
Hopefully someone with half a brain takes that soccer ball from her and destroys it.
Our only real hope is that Finland bugged the fuck out of the summit room. I don’t know where they stand as an ally.
I don't know about Finland as a whole, but I did read one of their largest news outlets put 300 billboards up along the route both Trump and Putin took to the summit. For example - "Mr. President, Welcome to the Land of Free Press”

Pence's reaction to the Helsinki press conference: "What the world saw, what the American people saw, is that President Donald Trump will always put the prosperity and security of America first."
I really wonder if it's just as simple as Trump being desperate to get a hotel in Moscow, like it's his white whale or something.
Jennifer Palmieri tweeted that she thinks it's as simple as Putin being able to show that 45 didn't actually win the election. I agree with her that it's this that would make him the most terrified and not any pee tape.

Omg, of all of the things I’ve read and seen over the past hour, this might be the worst.

I totally see Putin behind the scenes talking to the GOP like "It's okay guys, you can post that you're 'troubled' on Twitter and that we're still your enemy, wink wink."
I really wonder if it's just as simple as Trump being desperate to get a hotel in Moscow, like it's his white whale or something.
I agree with this. Really, I think it's that Trump is narcissistic as fuck and Putin recognizes that. He butters Trump up and makes him think he's the greatest, which means that Trump will do as he suggests to keep that praise coming. He's easily manipulated. I don't even necessarily think Putin has a ton on him. He's just smart and conniving and knows exactly how to get Trump to do his bidding.
I just cannot wrap my brain around how people can continue to support him. The stock market is (currently) up, so simpletons who only care about their money are happy. But how can ANYONE with a shred of information about Russia and its history be OK with what happened today? If anyone sees an article supporting why this meeting was a good thing and why they’re happy with the outcome, I’d be interested in reading it.

Did he watch the same press conference as everyone else?

If someone told me they'd give me a million bucks to say this exact statement with a straight face, there's still no way I could do it. Like, physically I could not do this because I would laugh or accidentally say "Trump" instead of "America."

I think it could just be as simple as this. There's a reason Trump keeps bringing up his EC victory. And its why he refuses to admit that there was Russian interference. Anything that would cast a shadow over his "historic victory" is a bad bad thing in his mind. Factor in that Putin is a master manipulator and knows exactly how to play Trump - which doesn't seem to be that hard to be honest (mock the press, talk about how awful Hillary and Obama are, talk about hotels) - and that could really just be it. Putin is playing Trump and Trump refuses to see it because if he believes what the IC says, then his victory wasn't "pure."
I think Putin could have the pee tape, or there could be business deals going on, etc., stuff like that - but it may not be that complicated.
"We ran a brilliant campaign and that is why I am President." Motherfucker.
NO, that's not why you're the president. You're the president because 50+% of this country is downright racist, xenophobic and/or mysogynistic. THAT'S why you're in that office, you stupid fuck.

As long as Trump keeps locking brown people up, and letting people like Arpaio and the Bundys go free, they give no fucks about anything else. This is about white supremacy.
