ooooh HeartofCheese, niiiice!!! I married a hot nerd
We have an appointment with a speech therapist on October 30 for DD.
For DS: Report cards come out today and parent teacher conferences tomorrow. I'm actually looking forward to it because I think we will see good things
I just woke up after a brief nap. I took a red eye home last night from a conference, car service had my arrival date wrong and picked me up over an hour late, and then there was an accident on the highway coming home. Trying to will myself to get ready in time to get to the office after lunch. I know I need to be a grown up about it, but damn these pajamas are comfy...

DH is in charge of bedtime and I've been telling him for 6+ months that we need to move up DS's bedtime because he's too tired with full time K. It had to be his idea and he finally did it this week. So far, DS going to bed 30 minutes early results in him getting up 30 minutes early.
Crazy swing shift coworker was supposed to be back today but it got pushed back another week. She's been out with an knee injury for over a month now. She has zero sick leave so she is LWOP. I can't figure out why they aren't making her come in for modified duty. But it has been so nice without her drama. With a 1/4 of our team gone, we have gotten so much more done because we're not dealing with her stupid cases.
Trying an eastern medicine doctor for DD, in addition to medical massage and physical therapy. Not yet scheduled, but he comes highly recommended by her golf coach. We were going to try this previously but the 1.5 hours to get there in traffic was prohibitive - this is closer. I’m still feeling heavily over scheduled in general.
I have no idea what to wear to this conference in Vegas next week. Thinking swing dresses and cardigans. I hate this time of year for shoes and guess I will just go with sandals. Anybody been to Vegas recently? I’ll probably have a free evening if there is anything I MUST do there.
PT is going ok. I mentioned in other post dentist is sending me to a TMJ expert for acute TMJ. Home sick with laryngitis today.
I was thinking of testing DS for ADHD but several of his teachers said it would be hard to diagnose since academics are good and no hyperactivity. We’ve been doing behavior mod in the classroom for writing and slowing down. And at home to keep hands to himself and it’s been going pretty well. Only 1 incident at aftercare since the chart. Last spring and maybe the kids were getting restless for summer I would get 1-2 reports a week. Going to try to keep it up maybe for the whole school year.
DD has her first Girl Scout Meeting and loved it and will be in our first carpool on Sunday.
DH is doing well for the most part. His counseling has been very helpful. I am so glad I pushed him to do it with the help of this board!

2chatter, I have a friend who's in Vegas right now and she's wearing tanktops and tshirts. I expect it get chilly at night though. So maybe summer dresses and sandals with a nighttime coverup?
HeartofCheese - thanks! I’ve already forgotten what 75-83 feels like with the winter we have been having here. I know I have two swing dresses I love...now to figure out the wild card for the third day. Also wondering if I can swing Birkenstocks at a kind of nerdy conference. Probably not. But I may try it. Or maybe I just really no longer care, ha. Not down with flats when it’s over 60.
2chatter, I just came home from Vegas this morning. It was unseasonably cool while we were there. Very low 70s and breezy. But, I was inside 99% of the time so it didn't really matter at all what the temps outside were. The news there was saying temps would get back up to the normal low 80s starting today on out.

This is a DDOP. The back of my phone glass cracked. No idea how as it’s survived many falls in the past and it didn’t even fall yesterday and cracked. Thankfully I have apple care and my phone is under a year old.
One of my friends/coworkers gave notice yesterday. It sucks. She’s awesome and we need her but it really is a better opportunity for her so I’m happy for her but bummed for me.

Our kitchen and floor reno is pretty much done. A couple of our cabinet doors were scratched so we’re waiting for the replacements. And the floor people did a crappy job in a certain spot in the kitchen so they need to redo. Otherwise I plan to paint the rest of the downstairs this weekend and hopefully we’ll be able to get our furniture back in on Sunday.
DDs last XC practice was yesterday although I heard that she has to go to the meet this weekend but she’s not running so we’re not going. I’m looking forward to that extra time!
DDOT: One co-worker complained to me about another coworker. About 90% of what she said was rubbish, but the other 10% needs to be addressed. I suggested that we meet today to discuss how we go about it, and coworker 1 "doesn't want to talk about it." Well... we need to talk about it anyways.
I'm not her friend - we barely have a working relationship, so it wasn't just a vent session. I'm annoyed that she expects me to fix the problem behind the scenes for her without any involvement/feedback from her. Especially when you consider that this was the woman who cried when told she was going to report to me... and thus doesn't report to me.
And for clarity - this is mostly just me venting, but if you have any good ideas of how to handle it, I'm all ears. Escalating to my manager is not an option.
k3am - can you make her cry? Because that’s what she deserves for being like that. And the whole crying to not report to you thing is so incredibly obnoxious. I’d be out on that whole scene and refer her to her manager, with whom you can then work if the other person is indeed your direct. In our org going to another manager would NOT fly.
Our division is small and flat. We have 5 people. Co-worker 2 has a direct report. The rest of us report directly to our division manager, who in reality, is a business development guy and not a manager. (In this case, 'manager' is a title, not his skill set).
Co-worker 1 should report to me. The whole portfolio is my responsibility, and she is my support person. (We are the line side.) But she threw a hissy fit about it and I'm happy not to manage people.
Co-worker 2 handles all our operations on top of some other items.
The line side relies on the operations side to get things done. Co-worker 2 has cancer and is in treatment. Her schedule is a mess. Co-worker 1 is backing her up. So the 10% of Co-worker 1's complaints that revolve around how we cover while she's out without letting stuff drop is definitely something that needs to be talked about. (Honestly, Co-worker 1 should go straight to Co-worker 2. But she won't. And at the end of the day, all of these clients are my clients, so if things aren't handled well, it comes back on me.)
I wouldn’t give her a choice. Set a meeting. Invite them both to discuss coverage. Don’t say “Suzie Whiny-Butt complained” just say “I want to ensure our clients are well-served, so let’s talk process.”
Tomorrow I get to help chaperone 4th graders on a field trip to the local sports stadium and history museum since another chaperone had to drop out due to strep. DD will be so happy.
DH and I decided to get DD tested for inattentive ADD since all of her teachers were concerned about her inability to get classwork done during class time. It's starting to impact her grades a bit (instead of A's, she is getting B's and C's even though she knows the material). I'm worried that if we don't step in, DD will have a rough time at the middle school next year since the pace will be faster and there will not be any recess to use for catch-up work. I've already talked to the pediatrician and she is sending Vanderbilt surveys for her teachers and DH and I to complete. DH and I plan on giving the surveys to the teachers at the parent/teacher conference in early November. I guess we should stop by and let the guidance counselor know too. Then we'll take DD to the pedi at the end of November to discuss the results. Has anyone dealt with this and have any tips or resources for dealing with this? We are in a public school, if that makes a difference.
polecat8- we haven’t gone through the process. I was suspecting ADHD for impulsivity and inattention. Now I’m not sure. It sucks but I kind of have to wait for him to show more symptoms since I don’t think I’ll get a diagnosis yet. We’ll see what his teacher says at parent teacher conferences.
k3am- I would force the discussion of coverage. Plans may change but with my maternity leave I came up with a coverage plan and submitted it to the director.

All "S's" and also several S+'s in math. He needs to be at a level C for reading and is at a level D, which is 1 better. This is awesome b/c in May he was a B.
I'm walking on sunshine right now
My 70.3 triathlon is probably going to be a 69.1 duathlon because of the rain in central Texas (as in no swim). That has me vaguely wondering if I can go to a nonbranded 70.3 that is happening the following weekend (probably not - not enough time to recover). Or if I should try to do Galveston 70.3 in April...which I can't say I really want to do. : / But really all of that is nothing compared to the people flooding. Still kind of sucks though.
I just signed DD up for extra volleyball coaching through the winter for $145 a month. DH is going to gripe, but I don't think that is bad at all. She will meet a lot of girls she is going to go to high school with next year, which she needs since it will be a totally different groups since she is transitioning from private to public. The coach is someone I have dealt with in my coaching and is highly overbearing . According to him, no one who doesn't play travel can get any playing time in high school, but he gets results as far as major improvement, so I am just going to grit my teeth and go with it.
DH got in a group txt argument with my mom on how the kids are not going to be forced to sing Christmas carols, so that was fun to watch.
I forgot to put snacks on the grocery pick up list for DS's trip next week, so I will have to go inside the grocery at some point this weekend.
Another DDOT - for anyone who’s broken a bone - how long before it stopped hurting? I’m two weeks in and it’s not as bad as right after I did it, it definitely hurts still.

My pinky toe hurt for 6 weeks and I feel like I’m back to 90% finally where it only hurts when I do something to it now.

I’ve broken so many toes so that’s all I have to compare it to. But I’m pretty sure I blocked out the whole process.
All I know is I only have 10 or so more of the pills that actually help with the pain and don’t want to refill it.

Toes were the better part of 2 months before they felt better.
Collar bone was probably a bit longer, but ached in cold, damp weather for years after.
I was a teenager when I broke me both, back when you’re supposed to heal quickly 🙄
My Daycare update: I asked the teacher about it and she laughed. She said some of the other parents had asked about it too, but the teacher that taught them that was one of the extra floating teachers and it had been addressed.
