I had an amazon package due yesterdsy with stuff I wanted for an upcoming trip. So I get an email saying USPS attempted to deliver it at 630pm which definitely did not happen as we were there. No note on the door or anything
So then I call and have to go through the painful talking to a robot process and finally they said I can pick it up today. But then all the post offices closed today.
So now I don’t have the stuff for my trip since I leave tomorrow
How can they just lie and say they tried to deliver it ?! So strange
I've gotten emails that say they've made multiple attempts at delivery and now it's going back to central receiving (out by the goddamn airport) and I have to drive there to get it.
If they are supposed to deliver it, they apparently have to put something into the system. Sometimes something prevents them from actually delivering (mailbox bank is full, bad weather, mail truck breaks down, can’t get to the porch because of your dog, etc), they will put “attempted delivery” even though they kind of didn’t. Also, this time of year they use temporary delivery people who don’t follow the rules, so who knows.
I got a package delivered today from USPS despite them being closed.
Yes - this just happened last week. The package was attempted at like 8:30 at night - we were here. I was super annoyed. My guess is the delivery driver was just done ...

Apparently if your local post office does Sunday deliveries, they still delivered today. I heard that on NPR this morning.

It was package delivery only today and it was the newbies who had to work. All the old timers got the day off. I've got a friend who works for the postal service and he gave us all a heads up last night. He is one of the newbies who is working today.
Yes, many many times. I work from home so I am almost always here. I would see them put the notice in my mailbox that they attempted delivery. They never had the package, just the notice all filled out. I complained and now they don’t do that anymore; we have a dedicated package delivery person.

Yep. Usually it’s ups. They’re the worst. I’ve also had them mark it delivered a day or two before it actually is delivered. Amazon was all “yep. They do that”

Yup. Happened constantly when we lived in NYC, and often they would do it three times then make us get ourselves to the midtown processing center and then schlepp our package home, defeating the purpose of shopping online entirely.
My favorite was when our crib was recalled and we ordered a new one and they did that. I had waited all day for it because my daughter was sleeping in a pack n play waiting for it. I called and raised hell through pottery barn and they showed up at 8 the next morning with it (our normal delivery time was late afternoon).
Yes. I just got a notice from amazon the other day. It said “carrier attempted delivery, building locked. Will try again.” I live in a regular house on a regular residential street. No building involved. I also still don’t have the package.
When DD was two months old I ordered a new iPhone and knew I'd have to sign for it. Of course, the guy came when my H was at the gym. He rang our doorbell, I saw it on our nest cam, but he didn't even wait for me to react. He just put the notice on the door and walked away and got back in his truck. Fortunately, he didn't immediately drive off. Unfortunately, I had to run outside braless with my baby in my arms to get the guy's attention. Ugh.

It happens all the time. My subdivision has gotten the local post master involved since it happens so frequently. What they think was happening is that the mail carrier would scan it as delivered the day they got the package, but not actually deliver until much later that day or the next. Sometimes it’s not ever gotten delivered at all.
Yes the delivery attempt thing has happened to me multiple times. They sit on a throne of lies. Also this was posted on my neighborhood FB page today. LIARS!
Well, we had a very interesting mailman for a number of years- he loved to deliver our packages to the street behind us, down the street, to any number of people that weren't us. We also frequently got other people's stuff. He was so adorable and such a pleasant guy, he just kind of sucked as his job- LOL. We met a lot of neighbors this way.
We did contact Amazon or the sender (Zenni) a few times when there was something time sensitive/it didn't turn up, and they would contact USPS and make it right. We've had the post master drive packages to our house a few times (she offered, we didn't demand).
Our old mailman retired a year ago and his replacement is an equally lovely person- *and* she delivers things to the right addresses! Nice.
UPS did this last week with our holiday cards. That I paid $$$$ to have arrive ASAP. Said they delivered it at 1:10 pm and Kevin signed for it. Except we have the ring and no one came to the door or garage nor did a UPS truck arrive at our house at any point. No one named Kevin lives here.
I called and they were putting a call out to the driver and advised me to call the sender to notify them of the missing package. Um, okay?
Our Ring camera showed a random guy dropping them off on our porch the next morning. Maybe Kevin realized he had no need for 225 TinyPrints cards with pics of my family?
Yes. This summer I stood in my living room and watched as the driver sat parked in front of our mailboxes forever and filled out the slip, and I wondered what was going on because I wasn't actually expecting a package at all. It turns out it was the package we'd mailed ourselves from Australia and thought was lost because it had been over 100 days since we'd mailed it.
Anyway, I was both happy I got my package, and furious that the carrier was too damn lazy to even attempt knocking on my door. I picked it up at the Post Office and complained to the person at the counter and they were like, **shrug** you'll have to talk to the postmaster, which I didn't bother to do, but I probably should have.
Yup, multiple times. One time I saw the carrier walk up to the door and stick the note on the screen door. The front door was wide open, so he had to know someone was home. Then he sprinted back to his truck and took the fuck off before I could flag him down. I was so pissed, and ended up speaking with the postmaster who personally delivered the package to my house.
Yes. And I'm now having a second go-around of them taking over 30 days to deliver a package to South Korea yet my husband can get Amazon orders in 7-10 days.
Ditto to all, happens to us all the time. My husband works from home and I am home most of the day many days, so it’s extremely rare for someone not to be here and often we get the ‘attempted delivery’ crap. Very annoying!
Oh wow it seems this is a common occurrence then!! I supppse I should consider myself lucky this is the first time it’s happened to me 😄
I would complain to amazon but they don’t appear to offer that option haha .. it just says “contact usps here” and then it’s like you call this number and do the robot call that takes 20 min or you go to the website and it’s not easy to complain on there either lol. Very strategic ...
Well thanks for the stories anyway! At least I know I’m not alone 😀
Wow this is interesting! I've had problems with getting stuff since i moved to my current building, but only with FedEx and UPS. I think neither has a key to my building, so they have to rely on the office manager being here to let them in. He is not full time (I guess? I don't really know what he does, but he is not a door man) so it happens frequently that there is an attempted delivery.
Now I am curious if he is here more than I realized and see if this is the delivery company's fault!
