I see I'm sticking with the group think. Gillibrand is growing on me in a big way. I'm looking forward to seeing her in the debates. Harris is still my #1. I am interested in Warren, but continue to have concerns about her baggage with Trump. I only voted for those 3.
Being female is my primary qualifier, so all of the men are out for me. Gabbard is a hard pass, Klobuchar has some issues and she mostly hasn't impressed me thus far, and I have no idea who Williamson is.
DH and I had a pretty impassioned conversation about this last night. He's currently hanging his hat on Biden, mostly because he considers himself a pragmatist and also someone who is a bit more centrist than far left leaning. He fully acknowledged and understands my issues with Biden and why I will absolutely be voting for a woman in the primary.
My top two haven't changes - Buttigieg and Harris. Beyond that, I'm not too excited, although I like Klobuchar and wish she were doing better. I really hope some of these folks drop out after the first debate.
I still think Harris can best build a winning coalition and I think she will be the best at debating against Trump. But she’s uneven in interviews and town halls so I’m nervous.
Warren is rolling out great plans and giving great speeches but I’m still very concerned about POC engagement. I’m also concerned that more dirt will come out about her claimed native ancestry or she’s wrote some terrible things during her many years as a Republican, and we are in for a nasty surprise. Twitter makes it look like she’s doing better but the approximately five black people at her massive Oakland rally are a reminder that Twitter is not real life.
Gillibrand is the best on choice. I just want to hear her talk about abortion all day long.
Those three then Castro. Tough call for my number 5, but I will give it to Inslee today.
I want a six-person debate (in alphabetical order): Booker, Castro, Gillibrand, Harris, Inslee, and Warren. I'm not actually particularly interested in Inslee as a nominee, but he would drive the climate change conversation well. I feel similarly about Buttigieg re: LGBT representation if we were going to expand my fantasy debate to seven candidates. I have no interest in seeing any of the others on the debate stage.

I've said this before, but I am really tired of men in politics. I'm just over it. I'm all in for Warren at this point (after watching umpteen town halls), and Harris is a close second, but I need to hear more from her.
The only man I'd vote for at this point in the game is Mayor Pete.

I like Inslee because he’s actually working. He’s not just waiving his hands and being all “look I got elected that one time! Something something reach across the aisle!” He’s got super detailed plans and he’s committed to actual issues of major importance.
The only reason I’d give him the nudge over Booker for my top 5 is because New Jersey seems to specialize in politicians with scandals.
In my fantasy administration, Pete is the UN ambassador.
I love that there are 3 women senators in the top spots right now. They are also my top choices.
From there it gets dicey. The shine is a bit off of Andrew Yang for me, but what the hell. Booker has too many dad jokes (he doesn't even have kids!) but damn if he doesn't have some good policy. Also Castro - great policy, good life story. I could be convinced for Buttigieg even though his cult of personality turns me off a bit.
I can't remember where I heard it, but even if all the rankings and stuff stay the same as they are right now and only the top 8 candidates (who currently qualify) made it to the third Dem debate, we'd have 3 women, 2 people of color (although those two catogories overlap with Harris) and one gay man. So 5 out of the 8 candidates would NOT be straight, white men. Which is insanely diverse, by far the most diverse slate ever, even though the top 8 would include some candidates a lot of people here aren't passionate about and exclude some we love.
NPR Politics Podcast is doing a series interviewing all of the candidates. I've enjoyed them. I just listened to Harris's interview and she really impressed me. I did enjoy Gillibrand's as well.
I still don't know. Harris, Gillibrand, and Buttagieg are my top contenders. But so much can change.

I want Jay to be the head of the EPA. He definitely needs to be on the debate stage, but he won't be president. Believe me, I love Jay, and I agree with you. Just... not for president.

I think Fantasy Administration needs its own thread.
I'm looking forward to the debates, but right now my front-runners are Harris and Warren. I'm definitely interested to see how Mayor Pete does in the debates. I really like a lot of things about him so far, but want to hear more from him.
