I have 2 young boys (3&7) and have Corelle now. I love them and they have not broken despite the drops and chops and who knows what else. They also stack so nicely that I can fit a lot in the cabinet. I actually just bought their bowls too since our nice set from our wedding registry have pretty much all broken. Indestructible is good.
This thread is timely! H broke one of our Corelle bowls this morning and yes, it does make a big mess. However I’ve had this set 15 years and we’ve only broken 2 bowls and one plate. They are usually very durable and they only break if they fall really hard (like go flying out of your hand). A normal drop usually doesn’t even chip them. Ours don’t get hot in the microwave either unless the food heats them up. I had stoneware before and replaced it because the actual plate would get so hot.
I have Corelle Country Cottage and I love it so much. I’m actually super bummed the outlet near me closed, it was so easy to buy individual replacements. I’ve also added extra small plates, small bowls, salad plates and serving plates over the years. It is nice to have a ton of it as it stacks easily in our cabinets taking little space but we have enough for the kids who go through so many every day.

I used to have a pretty cool gray set from pier 1, but I replaced it with fiestaware. The pier1 set didn't hold up all that well. I think I lost 6 of my small square plates in under 10 years. The only fiestaware that broke was one that broke in shipment.
When my parents each moved out of their respective homes as young adults, they set up their kitchen. Each bought a set of corelle. One purchased a set that was plain white, one a set that had avocado green flowers. Hey, it was the late 60s, early 70s, avocado green was the hot color. Eventually they meet and get married and had kids. And they still used the same two sets, now combined in the cabinet, until maybe the mid to late 90s. My brother and I dropped. so. many. plates unloading the dishwasher. Yeah, some shattered, but many just.... split right down the middle, too. Ok, it was mostly bowls we broke, the plates held up really well. So my mom decides she wants new dishes (finally!) and the corelle gets boxed up in the basement. Time goes on and in 2006 I graduate college and H and I are getting an apartment together. I need dishes. Mom says, hey, take the corelle we have sitting in the basement. That was 13 years and 2 kids ago and I STILL have the set. I've dropped them, the kids have dropped them. I can think of ONCE when one broke. I want to replace them SO BAD because, hello, avocado green flowers, but 1) $$ and 2) I CAN'T DECIDE ON WHICH PATTERN I WANT. #firstworldproblems. MORAL OF THE STORY: I love corelle, I will always love corelle, and you should all have corelle dishes.
All of you with plain white, non-Corelle dishes...are your plates and bowls all scraped from forks and knives. I had a pfaltzgraff set from our wedding in 2005, but got tired of the pattern. Three or four years ago I bought a plain white set from WalMart and now they have gray scratch marks all over them from silverware scraping against them. Is this just what white dishes do? Our old ones weren't like that.

I have plain white corelle dishes. My mother and grandmother had Corelle when I was growing up—one with the avocado flowers and one with mustard gold flowers around the rim. Same that PP mentioned. I honestly can’t remember ever breaking any.

I have not had that happen to mine. Maybe a couple marks, but nothing all that noticeable. Plus, they’re 20 years old.
mala Is this the pattern? Ex-H had this whole set from his mom. He took all of the dishes but left the cups when he moved out. I still use them! (Replaced the dishes with the Corelle Kyoto Nights pattern)
We got married in 2003 and still have our Crate and Barrel white with navy rim. We've moved 9 times (military family) and they've held up great. I don't think we've had any break. If I replaced them it would be out of sheer boredom and need for a change.

Yes!
ETA: I don't have the mugs, we never used them I'm sure they ended up in the trash when my parents moved at some point. My mom said she never liked the mugs. I do have the water pitcher that came with the set though! It's too small to be practical, because of course. We broke an entire stack of bowls (when I was a kid), so between the two sets I think we only have 4 bowls, but I have at least 14 of the dinner and side plates. I love having so many plates since it means I always run the dishwasher full but I never run out of plates.

At one point in history, they put some spaceship nonesense marketing thing in plates, so it blew up in microwaves. Ask me how I know! Gramma was a fantastic cook and also queen of the tv dinner. I blew up more than a few plates she passed along to me without warning.
I kind of want that old corelle pattern back. Nostalgia has overtaken aesthetics.

That’s the same pattern I have! I had a heck of a time replacing our large serving bowls (that’s the only thing we seem to break) but I finally found some on amazon.
Do they hold up well? I would really love just a plain white set, but the stuff I have now is apparently super durable, and I'd be bummed if I switched to something less so. But you really can't beat that price.
We have had these for I think about 8 years. One salad plate has a chip in it and we had to replace one of the dinner plates. The bowls are all perfect. We moved half way across the country and packed them ourselves, too, so that says something, I think. Ikea also (at least use to) have these pieces sold individually, so if you break one, you can just replace the one.
We have the Ikea 365 plates and bowls. I wack them on our quartz counter tops all the time and not one has broken. I have been impressed.
We have ceramic plates from 12+ years ago and they are heavy. I think I would prefer a Cordell type plate than we have but I am and have been happy with our nortitake plates/bowls/cups.
Another Corelle lover. I have mix of Blue Velvet and white. My set (three sizes each of plates and bowls) is 20 years old and while one or two plates have broken and I have one chipped bowl and plate, I still love the stuff. No scratches and still looks brand new.
ETA:forgot, I also have the large serving pieces that also look brand new.
They were from Bed Bath and Beyond. I registered for them for my first wedding in 2009, so they are now just over 10 years old. They held up pretty well I'd say - a couple of the bowls have small chips, but none of the plates do. I've also never broken one, though I don't believe any have been dropped (maybe the bowls?). There are some scratches on the larger plates from cutting things on them but they are barely noticeable.
This specific set is discontinued but I'd recommend the same brand again. I want to say they were only around $40 for a set of four so paying $80 for stuff I've used daily for over 10 years is a pretty good deal!

My parents had this exact set too. They gave it to me when I moved out and I finally got rid of it sometime in my late 20s, which meant they were used somewhere between 20-30 years.
I also hated the pattern and was thrilled when I bought my own plates and donated the ugly green flowers. A few years later my BFF was SO EXCITED to get a set of dishware from someone (her MIL maybe?). I asked her for a pic and lo and behold... it was this exact set. I couldn't believe it. I wished I had hung onto mine and could have given them to her.
basilosaurus Yes! My parents had that set growing up. They still had it the last time I was at their old house about 15 years ago. I'll have to ask if they still have it.
We bought a set of Mikasa bone china on super sale 12 years ago. We have a qsmall chip in two out of sixteen plates. The only issue is that I now hate the pattern and it doesn’t match our kitchen at all. I really want to replace them but there is no compelling reason and we got 16 place settings. Ugh.

We have pottery barn porcelain ones I'm tired of because the bowl edges chip. However, we've had them for almost 15 years and none have any marks other than the ones that chipped. The ones that aren't chipped look as good as they did in 2005.
Ok, now I really want new dishes to go with my new silverware!! We’ve been married for 13 years and registered for Noritake Color Waves when we got married. Honestly, they’re fine and other than a few chips on dinner plates, they’re in great shape. I would love to clear out all of the plastic kid crap DS uses but I’m not sure he’s ready for the everyday stuff. Maybe I’ll get some Corelle plates and ease in to that for him? This board costs me so much money 🤣
So, we had this set growing up. My Mom thinks it was like a freebie giveaway at the grocery store. Randomly it popped up for sale on FB Marketplace the other day and then a few days after that I saw them being used in an episode of Pioneer Woman lol

No, outs are not marked up. Anyone looking to buy white Corelle I would say take a look at the IKEA Oftfast that we use. My parents bought their white Corelle right before we bought our IKEA and my mom says had she known she would have bought the same stuff from IKEA. It is so cheap but works great. 79cents a piece and I love the shallow bowl option.
