My poor baby is completely stuffed up, breathing through his nose. Besides a steamy bathroom, what else can I do for him? Suctioning isn’t getting anything out and he isn’t eating because he is so congested. The dr said just keep giving him milk, but he seriously can’t suck. I fed him through a dropper but he didn’t get much and he screams.
Flush his nose with saline, we always felt it worked so much better than succion. Also you can put some eucalyptus on his chest/back (here we have a cream you can use from birth called kalyptu). Make sure his room is not too dry and raise the head of his bed with thick books under the mattress.

Little Remedies brand saline mist!! And then suction. My twin newborns have had like 4 colds in 9 weeks (thanks, toddler sibling) and it’s been a lifesaver. I get so much gross mucus out of their noses using this.
MH has a fish tank in his classroom, and mentioned a while back that he wanted one for our house. When he asked what I thought I said I’d prefer not because I don’t want another living thing to take care of (in addition to toddler DD we have three cats).
He found someone selling a fish tank and two fish for cheap, so he brought it home and is setting it up in our finished basement. He swears he won’t Ask me to do anything for it. Which is probably BS because I always manage to get roped into his little projects, either that or they just wind up getting in my way (like the tiny compost bin on our kitchen counter that I usually end up emptying). And I can’t just ignore this project because they’re living things and I’m obviously not going to let them die.
Bah. I just know I’m going to lose my shit the first time he announces that he wants my help to clean the tank or something.
Ugh!! I feel your pain. I also have 3 cats (and a dog) and my husband has been talking about “how much our daughter will love a fish tank”. I do not want this even a little bit (and I’ve said so) but it would be totally like my husband to randomly come home with a full tank setup. I’m sorry you are having to deal with this.

nose frida! WAYYYY better than the suction thing. Squirt some saline up in there and then frida the crap out of his nose. It is a miracle.

(He will hate it and cry, but only for a minute!)
That’s what we use. He hates it so much. This time around nothing is really coming out. It’s ally weird. I’ve been doing a lot of steamy bathroom experiences for him. Hate seeing little ones sick.
I'm having a really hard time not taking something my kid's teacher did personally, but am trying to hope that it's really nothing and it's just a bad formula of things together instead of her purposefully doing it.
Because I know if I brought it up, I would just get the party line of "Well I know your kid is so smart and confident that she could handle it rather than a peer who may not have been able to."
I sent DD to daycare in underwear today for the first time. With a lot of extra underwear and pants in a bag. Fingers crossed that this is the final push she needs to really “get it.”

We got 5 chicks on Friday. We already have 8 chickens, which is more than enough, so I didn't really want any chicks, but the kids wore me down with begging (we've purchased all our other chickens as pullets/hens, so I've never raised chicks before).
They've actually been super fun though, and both kids are obsessed with them - they would hold the chicks all day long if I let them.

Good luck!
Thank you - they updated the app a few minutes after I posted this with her bathroom activities for the day. She had two accidents and sat on the potty four times without going. Poor little buddy
Daycare just messaged me as I was typing this and said she doesn’t seem ready for underwear at school for hygiene reasons, because she isn’t telling them when she needs to go. So it’s back to Pull Ups tomorrow. I totally understand but I feel bad, and frustrated at the situation. She seems to get it at home but it’s so hit or miss when we take her out, and she doesn’t seem to want to go for anyone but me or MH.

Sending hugs. L is in the same boat, plus a cough. He also HATES the Frida, but lately when we do it we don't get much out either. I'm off to take him to the dr in an hour because I suspect another ear infection

Hope your little one feels better soon!
Mine has an ear infection🙁. It came on so quick, usually we have a few days of a lot of drainage. He’s teething too, so uncomfortable in every way and doesn’t want bottles and hard to nurse. Hugs and best of luck to you!
My daughters hair is SO fried. She has super thin, fine hair and all of a sudden the top layer on the back of her head looks terrible. It always gets knotted in the car seat and stroller, and she wakes up with it in a giant knot every morning. I tried leave in and I feel like it made it even worse. Anything else I can do?
How long is it? DD had this same issue and we ended up cutting it. She was around 2/2.5 so once we cut all that fine baby hair off it grew back so much better and she hasn't had the issue again. Her hair is so much stronger now. I remember one morning her hair was so knotted (just from sleeping) that we had to cut a chunk off.

My kids have a totally different hair texture so I don't have any advice on products, but getting a satin pillowcase and braiding her hair before bed (not sure how long it is, but you can do braided pigtails on surprisingly short hair) should help with the tangling.
DS was home from daycare today with a fever, and spent most of today sleeping. It started last night at 101, then this morning was 101-102. This afternoon when the Motrin wore off it was in the 104s. (I feel like I can never nail it down much tighter than a range with our ear thermometer, high and low were 104.1 and 104.7.)
His Motrin is going to wear off around midnight. I'm planning to do an ear temp in his crib before we go to bed. We should probably wake him up and dose Motrin again before we go to bed, right? I think he'd STTN if we don't wake him, he's been sleeping like a rock all day. But I'm worried about what if the 104s aren't the peak high temp.

I'm sorry Potty training is so hard. How old is she again?
We are about 2 weeks in with S (2.5) and it is not easy. While he does not have pee accidents too much anymore, there is no way he will go on his own or even go if you just ask him to--you have to make him do it. We are using rewards (candy) for every time he has a successful pee and poop on the potty. Which, you would think would be enough of an incentive, but he just sometimes flat out refuses to fucking go.

Mine will be 3 in June, so about the same age as yours.

Yeah, a month apart. Ugh. sorry, friend. Maybe give it a break for now and try again in a month or so? We started trying in December but then stopped when we realized he just was not ready. Started again last week and it has been MUCH better.
Ugh. We need to try potty training again. He will sit on with clothes, will pee down the shower drain at the pool and even tells us when he pees some times. But I cannot get him to sit without a diaper. I don't want a huge production but...it's time dude. I'd like to do it while we still have 2 competing nap schedules and aren't leaving the house much anyway and no travel plans.

Thanks - she does really well at home (but has only pooped once, she seems afraid). When we’re not at home it’s hit or miss, even at my mom’s house. And she usually goes for MH, but when I take her to a non-home bathroom she very often decides she doesn’t want to pee after all. She also plays around in the sink when I take her at home and wants to basically play in the bathroom and I keep losing my temper when she wastes time.
We’re going to pull her from daycare for the summer since MH is a teacher, so hopefully she’ll fully get it by September.
Just offering potty training commiseration. My kid is 3.5 freaking years old, ha. This is way beyond annoying that we're still struggling with this now. He willingly goes if reminded but he will NEVER stop to go on his own because he doesn't want to stop what hes doing. Is this going to be my life, just reminding him every hour to pee? At least daycare's doing the reminding for 8 hours a day. Also, there's one daycare worker that he won't pee for (the other 3 are more authoritative and don't present going to the potty as a choice), so she ends up putting him back in a diaper some afternoons if she can't get him to go, which pisses me off and I'm sure confuses him. Ugh.

I hate to say it, but my bff's son had issues like this from age 4-6. IT was so frustrating for her. It just recently stopped.
Also, I understand the frustration about the diapers. A couple times in the last 2 weeks I have picked S up twice at daycare with a diaper. So frustrating.
ETA: and confusing. S woke up crying shortly after falling asleep last night because he had peed...in his diaper. I had to explain that peeing in a diaper is ok, and we limit diaper wearing to certain times like sleeping.
shauni27, it is confusing! DS still wears an overnight diaper because he pees a ton at night. He says he doesn't want to wear it, because he's trying to be a "big boy" - and I'm like, you have to. Just not during the day. #mixedmessages

How is he today? This happened to us last week - over the weekend. A super high temp that I had to alternate meds to keeps lower, but never low. I was actually kind of scared at times because he looked so sad and barely ate anything. I hope your little guy is better already.

He was still at >102 this morning so I finally decided it was pedi time. Good thing because he was dx'ed with an ear infection. I feel bad that we didn't take him sooner! It's his first one, and DD has never had one.
He was 103.7 at 11pm, so we woke him up and gave Motrin, and set an alarm to check his temp at 5am (+6 hrs.). He was 102 then and asleep so we let him keep sleeping until we got up, but I woke up at every sound he made. Hopefully we all sleep better tonight, with amoxicillin started.

I hope the meds kick in fast. We went in right away and the ear infection was just starting, but it still took days for the fever to drop. The dr thinks it’s some kind of strong virus and he’s always teething so always something in his mouth. If you don’t give a probiotic, you might want to give him one while he’s on the antibiotics.
