Louisville police release police report on from night Breonna Taylor was killed. It's virtually blank, citing no injuries and no forced entry. Seemed to have forgotten about those 8 shots and the no knock warrant.

I have to fill out more information than this to allow my kid to go to a bounce house birthday party. What in the actual fuck.
I watched this Kimberlé Crenshaw TED talk this morning and sobbed.
For those in MN- the Special Session is starting strong with Public Safety and Criminal Justice Reform Finance and Policy Division hearing Saturday.
If you are in Minnesota, contact your representative. EVEN AND ESPECIALLY IF YOU KNOW THEY ARE AGAINST THE ISSUES.
There has already been a lot of Republican push back about reform and "needing to work on economic issues related to Covid first" along with other B.S about reform taking more time and more thought before pushing forward.
That is in all states, the requirements are all the same. The issue is that the defense can easily argue that he was working in the capacity as an officer and happened to come across him, which is probably what happened. It would be incredibly difficult to imply intent with a working active cop because there are so many potential "arguments" that imo will be difficult to prove. It would be stupid of the DA to charge him like that They would also have to have the other cops with him say that he had a beef with him and/or were knowingly knew something was up.
I don't agree with the law a lot but under the umbrella, this isn't 1st degree murder. Sorry
Yep. I don't see any universe where he's charged with 1st degree murder. I think 2nd degree is a little optimistic, TBH.
I agree, that is why I hope they charge the jury with manslaughter instructions as well. These higher charges can often be a play for the DA to assist in an acquittal. Again- hand in hand

It's being prosecuted by the AG so I don't think that'll be a concern here.
There's actually a push here by the county attorneys association to automatically have the AG's office prosecute all cop cases. I don't know enough yet to fully form an opinion but from what I do know, I'm pro.

In all fairness, this looks just like one of the pages out of a several page police affidavit. There are pages and pages and the police report which HAVE to include a summary of the events which are required under all states to file criminal charges.
My clients' reports are usually about 7 pages and a lot of times they just repeat themselves so alot of it is left blank.

You know, I don't know if the AGs should prosecute. It is still an elected position and political and includes many ex-cops and old local DAs who could/ do have bias.
There really should be a completely separate entity to look into these cases. And those entities shouldn't be involved with the police, DA or union fools.
I am interested in your thoughts on this though. You definitely have more experience in that area.

That's an interesting idea. I like it.
In this particular case, I think the AG is the right person to prosecute, but that's very specific to this particular AG and this particular case. No matter what you think of him, Keith Ellison's background in civil rights litigation and criminal defense is helpful here.
The Hennepin County Attorney has a really bad record when it comes to prosecuting cops, especially as related to the Jamar Clark shooting 5 years ago.

I actually know Keith from my ACLU time and agree that he would do the right thing. Outside of that... something needs to fucking change.

This wasn't wasn't the entire report.
I'm sorry, I'm not good at posting stuff. They shared other pages of the report, also just as blank.

ETA- they listed no injuries and no forced entry.
According to this article, that report was a mistake and they are working to correct it. Seems suspicious.
Saw it trending on twitter and his family is worried that it is not getting enough media attention and that they suspect foul play while authorities immediately called it a suspected suicide. The trending hashtag is #justiceforRobertFuller
Colorado has passed police reform legislation. Governor Polis will sign it. It's not enough, but a step in the right direction.
"Among the biggest changes, Colorado’s Senate Bill 217 bans the use of chokeholds and carotid control holds, limits when police are allowed to shoot at a fleeing person and requires officers to intervene in cases of excessive force or face criminal charges. The bill requires all officers to use body-worn cameras and departments to release the footage within 45 days, and it allows for officers to be held personally liable for civil rights violations."

I shared this a bunch of times on Twitter. It’s so horrific.

I didn't see a thing about it until Sunday night. They're right that it wasn't getting a lot of notice. How horrific.

A young black man was found hanging from a tree and city officials want to blame mental exhaustion from Covid-19? I don't buy it. Shame on them for not even acknowledging this could be a hate crime.

Exactly, especially during this time in history. A few comments I saw said they were worried about bigger protests coming their way so they are trying to sweep it under the rug. But OF COURSE that'll backfire on them when this gets larger media attention. Looks like LA Times picked up the story.
This doesn't deserve its own thread, so I'm putting it here.
My company just decided to make Juneteenth a company holiday.
mine did too! They're calling it "A Day to Reflect..." do you work in the tech industry? (I'm curious if we work for the same company or if more than one corporation is doing this.)

I don't really know where to put this so I'm putting it here. There was a BLM protest in the town next to mine over the weekend. So of course a bunch of bikers, "good guys" with guns, etc showed up to counter protest. Of course they were the only ones who got unruly--ripping up signs, using racial slurs, etc. One of these counter protestors is a social studies teachers at DS's school. Besides obviously being a wretched human being, there are POC at the school. They are supposed to sit in a classroom with a teacher who doesn't value them?? The school board is "looking into it." I emailed the superintendent this morning. In other places I feel like her being fired is a given, here I will be surprised if she is.

More than one. My husband’s company is also doing this and it’s a publishing corporation.

I’m sure a lot of companies are doing something for Juneteenth. Which is nice, I guess, but it’s easy for that to just be lip service. I hope they’re also backing it up with real diversity initiatives that will make a difference to current and future employees and their communities.

I do. We are also to "reflect." ETA: at least locally, quite a few large companies are doing the same.

I agree, and I'm cynical so I automatically think things like this are lip service. But my company is also making sizable donations and matching employee donations as well. We've also been doing weekly "check ins" with the top level executives where they discuss everything going on and how they want the company to move forward (started these with COVID 19 but they're now focusing on racism). I've actually been impressed with how they're handling this.

We might actually work for the same company. This sounds very familiar.
We also got additional volunteer time with lots of suggestions to help out locally with community clean-up/rebuilding/etc.
I'm curious if this is going to be a one-year thing or if it's just a company holiday forever now.
