I know it doesn’t matter to the outcome of the election but why is Alaska only 50% counted?
I would like to know this too.
I heard them say yesterday on I think NBC that it just takes so long to bring everything to the counting location since everything is so far away. And then they don’t have as many people to count.
Talk me down - there’s no real threat of state legislatures overturning this, right? I keep seeing “Article II, do your thing” on Twitter. I’m dismissing it but someone reassure me, please.
The short answer: no, state legislatures cannot legally ignore the results of the popular vote to appoint their own electors.
The long answer: Here's what Article II says: "Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress."
Take a look at "in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct." That's the key phrase. Legislatures get to direct the manner of choosing the electors. Guess what? They already have in every single state. The manner is by popular vote of the eligible voters in the state. Changing the method of choosing electors to "whatever the state legislature wants" is NOT Constitutional.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”

Yup.
Also, are you talking about electors voting however they want instead of how the state voted? That's Chiafalo v. Washington, in which the S.Ct. ruled that states can punish "faithless electors" who don't vote a they are supposed to.
Or were you talking about state legislatures doing something directly?
I truly don’t know how these people are still at it. They must have lots of adderall flowing at all these news stations or something.
Journalists live for this. When I stopped running headlong into hurricanes and shots fired situations, then drinking my way down every night, I had to find a different way to cope with the world but it's an amazing natural high.
Not a journalist but so relatable. Not working currently through this is killing.me.
I'm really starting to believe now. I can't believe this nightmare is over. I still remember the sense of dread waking up in 2016 and then remembering that it was only for 4 years. Well 4 years is here.
