Ugh, back to the grind. Dd was up at 5:45, so she should be fun today.
Why are underwear so expensive? I need to completely overhaul my underwear, mine are falling apart. I really want to try the Soma vanishing edge, but they’re so expensive!
Back to the grind indeed... no one wanted to get up this morning. I got a heated blanket for Christmas and it is awesome but it is really hard to get out of bed on cold mornings now!
I just got custom orthotics but I need some new shoes now that they comfortable fit into. They are kind of tall so my heel slips out in most shoes. I'm going to try some Sketchers I think. I never really go anywhere so I just want some I can slip on while I am in the house.
I have been having shoulder pain since I got my flu shot in November. Over the past week it got noticeably worse, and I'm losing mobility. I finally called for a doctor appointment and am going this afternoon. But I feel like I need to give a whole disclaimer about how much I support vaccines before I tell them what happened. I'm worried that anti-vaxxers have made doctors less likely to take me seriously. I'm not crazy! I love vaccines! But this one was almost definitely injected too high and damaged my shoulder. I hope they can help me.
This is my last week off, my internship starts next week and classes the week after that. I'm having a ton of anxiety over this being my last semester and needing to...you know...get a job and do something productive.
I need to take the Scrum Master certification assessment before Wednesday.
Grocery store today and maybe a walk for the dogs this afternoon.
Speaking of underwear, after reading the thong thread, I feel like it's a confession that I still wear thongs.
Bernadine, usually Soma has a sale, but that particular style can be pricey. I think they're also on ebates if that helps a bit. I do like their boyshorts.
I keep waking up with my right hand/arm asleep. I went for carpal tunnel testing and to an ortho a couple years ago who told me I don't have carpal tunnel. At that time I was also having tendon pain on the left from my pinkie to my elbow, but again, the doctor basically said I was making it up. I'm thinking he thought I was there for pain pills or something. Which didn't make sense, because when he recommended a steroid shot I asked about side effects because I had a platelet disorder that can flare up anytime. I guess maybe I need to try and just sleep on my left side somehow. I don't really have the headspace for another doctor to tell me I'm making it all up.

I'm back at work this week after taking some time off last week. I spent most of my time off installing new floors in my basement, and I'm so happy with how it looks! I still have maybe 5% of the floor to finish, but I'm close. First project of 2021!

Kids start back on e-learning tomorrow. DH is on his first day back to work today since Dec 17th. He is likely WFH permanently now. He says he doesn't want a desk chair. He has been working in our finished basement at our game table since March. He does get up and move around a lot. Right now he is on a couch wrapped up in a blanket working on his laptop. Whatever floats his boat.
Putting in an Amazon order and a Target pickup. Will go to grocery store tomorrow then we will be set. I also signed DS1 up for a super sitter course (all virtual) that will go over basics of First Aid and CPR and also will cover basics of money management. We got him a cell phone for Christmas and let him stay home alone some in the future when we can go places. The younger two stayed with my parents last week when DH and I went to buy my new car and DS1 stayed home.. He did well with it, but I think 3 hours is his limit for comfort unless we would ever leave DS2 home with him.

Ugh, that sucks! I had a coworker a few years back who got something called "frozen shoulder" after her flu vaccine. IIRC, she had to do some physical therapy to get it back on track but had no long lasting effects. I wonder if you have something similar?
I don't know if I'm glad or sad to be back at work. My anxiety has been pretty awful these last few days, and I'm hoping work will be a good distraction. I have 4 meetings today and a lot of stuff to do that I put off until after break, so hopefully I can be productive and take the focus off of worrying about being anxious.
I worked out this morning and plan to do some yoga later today, too. I'm also going to start tracking my food AND I am drinking decaff coffee. I am not starting out the year saying that I'm going to lose 50 lbs or run a marathon or whatever, but I do think I need to really get some healthy habits going. Since I probably have the most time I'll ever have (with working from home), I need to stop putting it off and get good habits now so that when eventually I do have to go into the office again, I can hopefully continue them instead of feeling like I have to start.
I hate tracking food, though. I think I'm going to focus less on calories and more on just making sure I'm getting a good balance of the stuff I need to eat. My appetite has been poor lately (due to anxiety) so I feel like it's especially important to ensure I'm at least fueling my body properly.

I'm assuming you had an EMG back then (hurt so bad)? Honestly I would go to a different Ortho. If untreated you can lose function. Sleeping with my hand/arm elevated and using a brace at night has helped me. I need to have the surgery, but Covid has pushed back all nonessential procedures, so I wait. I did have a steroid shot that helped ease symptoms for 2 or 3 months.
maudefindlay, yes they did both hands. I guess I need to try and address again. There are days where just holding my fork to eat results in cramping and pain. I left the appointment in tears because he was just so mean and dismissive of me.

I get this and my chiropractor works on my inner shoulder muscles to relieve it. Try stretching your arms behind you or putting your hand upside down against a wall and turning away from it a few times a day to stretch your shoulders back to loosen the muscle. It has helped me a ton.

Uggh, that doctor is terrible, I'm so sorry. You should have had your symptoms taken seriously. Honestly pain meds were never even mentioned with me. My Ortho did the steroid shot and said if things ramped back up again it was surgery time and that it was such a minor procedure. Not sure why you got such a reaction.
Ugh, Monday. Back to working and making sure kids are occupied with something other than YouTube videos and Minecraft since class doesn't technically start until tomorrow. I don't wanna adult today.
It's funny how all those little house projects that I didn't get around to over the break are suddenly so much more interesting this week.

Eta My hand will lose feeling when bike riding even which feels kind of dangerous. I'm constantly waving and shaking that hand to get feeling back. I also have trouble opening packages etc.

This looks fantastic! What kind of flooring did you install? How hard was it? I actually *just* started a thread on Home and Garden board about basement flooring. We are semi-finishing a living/ work out space in our basement, and I want to install something over the existing concrete. I'd love to hear what you did, and how handy you are normally LOL.
My 40th is next month and H just asked me what I want to do. I don't know... it's so depressing. I always said I wanted to celebrate turning 40 on a beach somewhere... but that is obviously not happening. We are hopefully going to book some sort of family vacation at an all inclusive for later in the year. I'm sad I can't celebrate with my friends and family. And I love H to death, but he's not the best at planning things. I know if I tell him I want to do "x", he'll make it happen... but I don't want to plan my own birthday. And I have no ideas anyway.

Ugh, my entire university closes down from Xmas eve til New Years, so in theory I should feel rejuvenated. But I feel like I need a day off just to myself because I had the kids around for almost two weeks and I'm beat! I can't get motivated to work but I've at least cleaned my office.
I've been obsessed with stripping my laundry after watching one of Gocleanco's IG highlights. So far I've done H's nasty work clothes, all our sheets, and now I have some of our towels in the tub "stripping." It's gross and exhilarating at the same time lol.
Happy Monday indeed. In the first five minutes of work I got two resignations and one COVID positive employee. Luckily the sick employee is asymptomatic and only got tested because of exposure.

Yeah, I think it is going to be something like that. The pain has gotten pretty bad. I'm assuming I will need PT at minimum. It's actually encouraging to me that your coworker was able to resolve it with PT. The fact that it keeps getting worse, even two months out, is what is scaring me a little. Hopefully it is just a matter of the PT to get back on track.

I hope that's all it is! She definitely had no pain after treatment, and continued to get her flu shot every year after and didn't have it happen again (at least while we were in touch... we haven't been in a few years). She kind of assumed it was a weird fluke thing that was unlikely to ever happen again.
I hope your doctor is able to figure it out and get you some relief quickly!

I used peel and stick vinyl planks. My constraints were: 1) our existing floor is likely asbestos tile, and I wanted to encapsulate it, 2) cost, 3) easy to install. I used similar peel and stick to cover damaged tiles in my last house and was really happy with how they turned out. It's so easy to install. The only tools you need are a utility knife, carpenter square, ruler, and scissors. I did around 1000sf by myself in about 24 hours.
There are a few areas where I need to go back and glue the tiles down (specifically at the cut-outs for the columns, because the existing floor was very uneven there), but overall they stick really well as long as the floor underneath is clean. I'm definitely not going to trick anyone into thinking it's real wood, but I think for the price and ease of installation it was totally worth it.
I watched the Good Doctor season 4 opener two part frontline edition. I know it's just fiction lol but why did they only make it 12 weeks to be in a pandemic and we are going on week like 52 and beyond at this point. I am so ready for covid to be done. I have been having nightly dreams about getting a vaccine but it looks like it won't happen till summer for my age group. At least my inlaws and mom will qualify faster and I am pushing them to get the vaccine once its available to them.

I had never heard of this! I just watched some Tiktok videos on it, kind of fascinating. Is all the murk in the water dirt (versus like the fabric dye being partially removed by the process?)

Definitely not dye - I have whites/lights in there now. I do think some of it is all of the different detergents/cleaners added in there, but for the most part it's just...ick...that comes off of everything.

I have a headache that woke me up this morning.
I cleaned like a mad woman on Saturday and Sunday and got the house in a company ready state for the first time since April I think. It's so nice. I love it so much. If only I could manage to keep it this way. I even did and folded/put away nearly all of the laundry. Great way to start off the week.
A was weepy going back to school this morning. Ugh. He kept asking to stay home, and I just kept saying "I'm pretty at some point soon you'll be home for a few weeks again." Because I just assume that we're going to have some quarantining classrooms fairly quickly this year. His teacher is already out for the week (she was out the last 2 weeks prior to winter break as well).

X had an impromptu sex education session this morning. He’s been asking me about exactly how babies are made and did so again today. I didn’t really know how to explain it other than exactly how it works so now he knows what sex is. It went pretty well honestly and we touched on lots of important things like consent every time, protection every time, how same sex sex works, etc. I really hope he can continue to come to me with questions as he gets older.
I was not expecting that this morning but I feel we both handled it very well.
I need ham like water Like breath, like rain I need ham like mercy From Heaven's gate Sometimes ham salad or casserole or ham that’s free range, all natural I need ham
Back to the grind for me as well today and I am struggling to find some motivation. H is at work (started a new job today - YAY!) and kid is back to school (face to face) and it's so nice to have my quiet house back!
We're in the midst of a refi on our house so appraiser is coming today - I have no worries that the house won't appraise for what we need it to but I get weirdly uncomfortable doing things like this. But it will be worth it because we're pretty much cutting our interest rate in half so it will be nice to save some cash each month! I can't wait to adjust that budget line!
I have been watching the Leah Remini show about Scientology on Netflix and wow - just wow. So strange.
Ugh, back to the grind. Dd was up at 5:45, so she should be fun today.
Why are underwear so expensive? I need to completely overhaul my underwear, mine are falling apart. I really want to try the Soma vanishing edge, but they’re so expensive!
I really like the Auden brand undies at Target and they're usually only 5 for 20 bucks if you need some emergency ones in the meantime!
Today has been pretty quiet - was waiting for a few deliveries, and now I can head out and go shopping. Hoping that most people are back to work and places aren't too crowded.
I ordered some awesome headbands that have buttons on them for long time mask wearing - in case anyone might find that useful for work, shopping, etc.
