My mom and dad got Dose 1 at 6am! I am so thankful. My mom got a good laugh because two people told her she could wait in the waiting room for my dad until he was done...she’s 65 but I guess they didn’t think she looked it lol.
They told them they could immediately go onto the site to get another appointment for the follow up, but when I did that it said no appts available. I’m worried about getting them to that second dose.
I just want this vaccine so bad. I'm a teacher and my district is supposed to be setting up a clinic for us in mid-Feb, but already warned us there may not be enough doses for all of us who want it.'
I live and work and different counties. So I also am trying my home county. Really the only way I could get it there right now is to get a slot at one of the pharmacies offering it. I have tried multiple times and it's always booked full. I saw on the news that each pharmacy (there are 4 I think doing it) only have 80 doses per day. So it makes sense why it is so hard to get an appointment.
I'm just worried if I can't get a dose through my district, when/how am I going to get this shot?
It was just announced that the US has bought more doses. I genuinely do think that things are going to get better over the next couple of months with access.
I think just like at the beginning of the pandemic everyone was like how haven’t scientist figured out every single thing about COVID, this is similar. It has barely been a month since the vaccines were released, and yes it hasn’t been smooth but it does seem like most places are working towards improvement and more access. I know some of my health care colleagues are still waiting too. Hang in there! I do think there will be more access coming.
We are in phase 1b (65+, teachers, first responders, law enforcement, transit workers, etc.). I heard at work a few people signed up for appointments because of the umbrella “education worker” category. We kind of are, but it’s possible they may be turned away when they get to the site. I have no idea if employment is being verified. DH said they didn’t ask for his ID or paystub or anything. TBH, given possible shortages of staff and volunteers at sites, they may just be focused on getting people in and out as quickly as possible. Not saying it’s right, but I understand if you can’t verify every single person. What if I was a former teacher - I could bring an old ID or old paystub, right?
Where I volunteered yesterday, it seemed it would have been quite easy for someone to lie about where they worked and still get through. I was told to "verify employment" if they were under 65, but not told how to, what employers "counted," etc. The county health department had apparently called select health care-related employers and told them to get employees to the vaccination clinic stat, but the volunteers in my area weren't given any sort of list. There was a place people had to check in before they got to us that was staffed by the Sheriff's office, so maybe they were checking, too? I know they had a list. I tried to ask questions so I felt more comfortable about verifying employment, but did not get sufficient answers.
ETA: This would have been me, LOL! "“We had one individual who was so happy, he took his shirt off and jumped out of the car,” said Michael Weber, the public health director in Josephine County, Ore."
Our county is getting 31,500 doses in this week. That is the most doses they got in at one time. This will be administrated via the drive through clinic they have been doing. I hear numbers like this and I feel hope that by April we can also have our vaccine. I really can't wait for the J&J one to be ready.
Locally our numbers have been going down, I assume now that the post Christmas break cases have tapered off. But with our team in the Super Bowl I foresee a spike in February. Many will not watch alone
For those of you who'd be willing to work a vaccine clinic, reach out to your county health department. I volunteered outside of my county yesterday, but it was a bit over an hour drive, so hard for me to volunteer very often due to work. My county is running a drive-through vaccine clinic at my university and they have said they'll be getting more vaccine supply each week, so I assumed they'd need volunteers. There was no info on their website, so I messaged them via facebook last night and had a return message this morning saying they had been getting enough volunteers working with partner orgs, but would soon need more, and sent me the info to get signed up. The county I volunteered in yesterday only needed very basic info, but my county requires a background check.

We're still in the 75+ group in London. Schools are still closed until at least March. And were doing the 2nd vax after 10-12 weeks. We have the highest per capita rate in the world and a government of idiots. Ibroke down in my supervision meeting today because my clients are all struggling and there is so little ican do for them or myself.
“Early analysis of its 15,000-person trial in Britain revealed that the two-dose vaccine had an efficacy rate of nearly 90 percent there. But in a small trial in South Africa, the efficacy rate dropped to just under 50 percent. Almost all the cases that scientists have analyzed there so far were caused by the variant, known as B.1.351. The data also showed that many trial participants were infected with the variant even after they had already had Covid-19.”

I just feel gut punched. We have to stop giving this virus opportunities to mutate. We could have had another option with 90% efficacy...
The only good news is apparently the pfizer and moderna vaccines do well still against this variant.
I can't believe our scientists did all this work, people offered up their bodies to test these vaccines, and the rest of us (collective) couldn't hold shit down long enough in the meantime.

Apparently, Philly Fights Covid got in trouble for allegedly doing the following:
The self-described “group of college kids,” Philly Fighting COVID, has reportedly bungled the job, and is currently facing a large amount of serious allegations at that.
The Washington Post reports that the members of the Philly Fighting COVID organization had “minimal health-care experience,” mismanaging even simple administration tasks such as honoring vaccination appointments made by seniors.
Other allegations include witness reports of the young adults vaccinating each other as they posed for photos and the organization’s 22-year-old CEO, Andrei Doroshin, taking dosages back home with him. One registered nurse who volunteered with the organization even claims she was not asked to verify her medical license or health care qualifications prior to vaccinating people.
On top of that, The Philadelphia Inquirer states that the non-profit suddenly switched to becoming a for-profit organization, something which it failed to disclose. This caused great concern for officials, especially when it was discovered that the organization’s new privacy policy described ways in which personal information that was entered into the group’s preregistration portal could be sold.

"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”

I saw him on the news this morning, defending his actions for taking doses home and giving them to his friends. "We tried calling everyone we knew to give them away, and didn't want them to go to waste."
Sure, guy. I bet you did. He struck as being very immature, very driven for fame.
cap, you need insurance to get the shot? Or is it that they'll bill insurance if they can to recuperate costs but no one is turned away?
Nobody was turned away - there were some who didn’t have insurance and some who didn’t have their cards with them. I guess it was to bill insurance if possible.

In NJ they charge insurance if you have it, but you pay nothing if you’re uninsured. My brother and I went together and they took my insurance and had no problem with him being uninsured.

I WAS LITERALLY THERE. At that exact time. When they were closing. I was one of the last people to get vaccinated, there were a few people behind me. I asked if they had any left over and needed to use them because my H was outside and would take one if it would go to waste- they said they counted them and they had all be allocated to the people who had come in behind me. Now, H is in phase 2 so he’s not about to cut in front of anyone, but if they would go bad then yeah, he’d take it. But no, they didn’t run out of people to give it to- my H was right outside the door. They said they were allocated so this guy could take some home. I have the text messages that say there were none left.

Question about second dose timing:
The recommended time period for the Pfizer vaccine is 21 days. All of the information I’m finding is about whether a time frame is too long. Is 19 days too early? DH is having trouble getting an appointment for his second dose. I have an appointment on his 19th day, but was able to get an earlier appointment through work. I thought about trying to have DH take my original appointment (same brand vaccine) but I’m not sure if 19 days is too close together.

You should contact the news media and also show them the text messages. This sounds like something that the local news would jump on.

I just messaged my girlfriend who was there, who physically saw them counting out the doses to make sure they all had arms to go into. She’s been a mess over this, she was so excited to volunteer her time and expertise and just feels really let down.

DH got his second on 19 days and was knocked over by the side effects, so that's a good sign
Has anyone seen anything about people jumping the line and getting vaccinated while not yet eligible?
PDQ........Poof. .........PDQ
I missed your original story and I haven’t seen this mentioned, but in our state people who got the placebo during trials are also currently eligible. So that could be really just about anyone.

There were a couple of non healthcare workers that were turned away.
There were a few attorneys, and people were mad they got vaccinated before guards or prisoners, but they go to the prisons so they are still in that environment. We are in 1B and attorneys are not in it.
I went and didn’t know if I was 1B or 1c. Apparently it’s down to the specific county here for my profession. It is smaller, so it isn’t always listed. I didn’t want to jump the line so I was very honest in what I did and brought my work badge and that I was just checking since it was confusing for my industry.
I know one person got it because there were extra doses and they are phase 2.
Compared to the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines, it's disappointing. But if this had been the first one released, we'd all be jumping for joy. Also, the fact that there were no hospitalizations or deaths among those who received the vaccine is great!
ETA: I wonder if people with risk factors (age, diabetes, etc.) for severe disease/death were included in the trial or not. If so, it would be interesting to see an analysis of the data with those with and without risk factors placed in separate groups. If the performance of the J&J vaccine is higher among individuals without risk factors, then perhaps it would make sense to reserve the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines for those with risk factors and give those without risk factors the J&J. Yes, it would complicate things, but if it helps to prevent spread, that helps prevent mutations.
