Weird random thing I just realized... I’m scheduled to have minor surgery tomorrow, and they didn’t call me for a covid test beforehand. I’m wondering if this means they are going to cancel it, or if they aren’t doing that anymore.
Maybe it depends on the hospital? I am having a biopsy next Monday and i have to get one.
Related question - do places usually take a COVID test from anywhere? My test is scheduled at the hospital where i am having the procedure, but I realized there are more convenient places closer to me that i could probably go.
Are you at a JH or UMMS facility? I know UMMS takes from everywhere, but you have to bring the results in with you if you go outside the system. I typically go to my local UMMS hospital (BWMC) even if my stuff is scheduled downtown. But since it all the same system, they get the results. I’ve had this conversation with them, and generally just figure it’s easier to stay in system, as long as I don’t have to go downtown.
H has stuff at JH, and they always schedule him at JH. He has to go downtown for testing. He didn’t ask if he could go elsewhere.
If its medstar or something else, I have no idea. Howard General is JH.
In my experience, I've only had to get tested before procedures which would require me to be put under.
I have serious vaccine envy, hopefully it won't last too much longer.
I will be under for the procedure. Well, the twilight kind of anesthesia anyway.
Good luck getting your vaccine!!
I had assumed I was going be twilighted for mine, as I was last time. But now, I don’t think I’m getting anything. But, like bad dingo said, I only needed it for things I was out for. Since covid started, I’ve done two biopsies, two minor surgeries, and a wide variety of radiology exams. Only the surgeries needed covid testing.
I got my COVID vaccine at the local county hospital today. It was a well oiled machine. There were distanced lines at each point. Even with the volume of people, I was in/out in 50 minutes, including the 15 minute reaction wait time. Everyone was so damn happy!

We closed on a refi today and our signer person was Medicare age, had Covid and was very ill for 17 days and is not getting the vaccine. Fears about it being rushed. Her direct quote was “I have a lot of friends who are doctors and they said not to bother with it unless you have a major medical condition” I fear we are all screwed.

And sorry that was negative. I just wanted to face plant. Between that and the phlebotomist I had at the blood bank telling me she didn’t need the vaccine because God would take care of her....I am just like....ugh.
So many people in MN are jumping ahead because pharmacies aren't checking eligibility, it is just based on you verifying you have an underlying issue or are an eligible work status.

The county where I teach was at over 9% positivity last week. Our region is like 3% overall and I think the state is right around 3% overall so this is....not great

wishing you no whammies!
It's at Mercy downtown, so IDK. There are no Mercy sites nearby, so maybe I am stuck with that. I guess I could call and ask. Downtown is only about 25 minutes for me, but I'm guessing there are multiple places in my town that could do testing and that would take less time. Oh well, I should have thought of this sooner. I have to go Thursday so maybe I'll just not worry about it.
And thank you! I am convinced the biopsy is going to be a waste of my time, but on the off chance that it isn't... it will be good to know!
ETA: Also, I hope everything works out with your procedure tomorrow!!!
I volunteered to help at a county-run vaccine POD (point of distribution) on Sat. I would do it anyway, but I have to admit I am hoping that I might be able to get an unused dose.
wildrice, ha! I almost added mercy to my post. You could always call and ask. My roommate during my last surgery had her covid testing down elsewhere, and I overheard her talking about it and pulling out the paper result, which is how I know it works there.
My H got J&J yesterday and is completely down for the count today. I knew there would likely be flu symptoms, but had no idea he’d be in bed not moving, drinking or eating for an entire day. I told him doing all three is going to make his recovery much faster, but I was not listened to. He feels like he got run over by a truck (he did not have covid to our knowledge, but his reaction is making me wonder if maybe he did).
My second shot is tomorrow, so I’m a little nervous after seeing how affected he was.
He is obviously still very glad he got it, but wishes he had realized how bad it would be so he could have planned ahead to not work.
I am so glad we got our first shots today, as AZ just opened it up to everyone 16+ effective tomorrow. Which is great news except our dickhead governor (Ducey) also just declined 240k doses from the Feds for our county for no apparent reason. He is such an asshole.

The difference in reactions is just bizarre. I had a super high fever, but felt fine- just a little tired. H had no fever at all but felt like absolute shit for like 36 straight hours and slept for about 24 of them.

Yes the difference in reactions is crazy! I had J&J two weeks ago and I barely even had a sore arm. I was super tired for a few days but I don’t know if that was the vaccine or just me being me.
I live here. It’s bad. Our numbers are worse then November and literally no one gives a fuck. People are throwing parties. Bars had St Patrick’s day parties. Everyone is planning on traveling to spring break. Tons of spread from @@@@@high school sports. Anyway at least vaccines are happening and the weather is warm so I’m not stuck in my house. I hate everyone. And my H’a vaccine appt was canceled for literally no reason and the health Dept won’t explain why.

I know it’s not funny but your last line made me laugh. How did he not know?! Half of the vaccinated population is talking about rough reactions to the vaccine.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
The Texas eligibility is a little confusing. My H has been working at a grocery store the whole pandemic, but he is in his 30s with no major comorbidities, so has been ineligible so far, much to his anxiety. I got an email from the city announcing 13k new appointments for this week, and I clicked through the link on one just to see how many were available/how fast they were going, and in the section where you pick your eligibility reason they listed essential worker in food retail under section 1B. Except nowhere else have we seen that listed under 1B, it only says age 60+ or 16+ with one of the specific comorbidities as being phase 1B on every other site where you can sign up for the vaccine. So I was like uh, he could have had one all this time?? And why does it not say this anywhere else?? He couldn't make a time work for the appointments that were there, so we are just hoping the next time they release spots through this portal he can get one of those slots. 🤷♀️

My H got vaccinated at work (food production with alternating 12 hour shifts) and they recommend people get it on a day they were scheduled to work!? So bizarre. Alternately, our school system did a distance learning day for all students the day after our teachers were vaccinated.

Yeah, half the teachers at my school were out the day after. It was rough. Not sure why they scheduled them all on the same day!

@@@
I'm currently staying with my sister. She tested positive in February, the same weekend DH and the kids came to visit. My BIL got it, and so did DH and the kids. I did not. Then two weeks ago, my dad called and asked me to stay with my mom while he was at work because he was worried about her. I stayed with her for two night and then dad called an ambulance for her. She also had COVID, and I didn't get it. I was telling that to someone, and he was like, "What, do you have O+ blood?" And I do, but I had never heard of any correlation before. And then this past weekend, my BIL who is an EMT said the same thing, that O+ people seem to be more resistant. I find that so fascinating. What is the difference in how different blood types react to COVID. I hope more research comes out about it. The good news is, if someone at school gets COVID in the next three months, the kids don't have to quarantine. Two kids not allowed out of the house for three weeks is not pretty!

My son was all excited at dinner telling us that his teacher got her second shot yesterday. Then he goes “Yeah, she was really tired so we played a lot of kahoot and I barely had any homework!” Lol. We’re in all virtual still so there’s a real lack of subs, she probably tried to soldier through poor thing.
Also, I cried a little inside because I can’t believe this is our dinner time conversation now.
erbear that was my reaction too (I realize my sarcasm didn’t really translate in my post...like come on dude; this isn’t news), but none of the people we know personally who got it had anything beyond some mild aches and tiredness and no one had to take off work, so I guess he was picturing the easiest case of the flu ever.
My turn today! I am so excited for 2 hours in a car alone with a giant list of podcasts to listen to!
CrazyLucky I remember hearing something about blood types very early on in the pandemic, but then not since. I tried looking it up at the time because I am O+, but couldn't find anything solid.

That sounds like my husband's reaction after his 2nd shot. Spent the entire next day in bed, and felt hungover the day after that.
I had a sore arm, with a lump on it, and was maybe a bit more tired than my usual level of tired (I normally have fatigue issues).
H and I are getting our second shot on the same day so I am a little nervous how the next day is going to go. I expect it to be a low functioning household.
I normally react to just the flu shot so I expect to not feel great. H is the most dramatic person in the whole wide world when it comes to anything illness related so I am expecting him to be worse.

H gets his second today. I am already preparing for the drama. But I sure am happy to do it this time!

My H and I also got J&J two weeks ago. I had a migraine for 48 hours afterward (from the shot? or just from life and then I couldn't take ibuprofen b/c I read somewhere that I shouldn't for a few days afterward? who knows). My H had a sore arm - so sore that anytime he bumped it or rolled onto that arm it sent shooting pains up and down his arm. But both of those feel pretty minor to me. I was expecting much worse - at least for my H who is so dramatic about every single ache and pain and malady he may (or may not) have.
My mom, who got Moderna, was down for the count after her 2nd dose. It was so bad at one point my dad thought he was going to have to take her to the ER. Yikes.

This is also my H, but he was totally fine after his second Pfizer shot. Not a single symptom.
