So the reason her husband didn’t even call her cousin or brother when she didn’t come home that night to see if she was at one of their houses is that she had been staying out all night recently going to lesbian bars. She had recently been let go from her residency at the hospital because of alcohol related issues and showing up late. There she had accused another male resident of assault — the police ended up charging her with filing a false claim and she was at the courthouse for that issue on the morning of 9/10.
Basically, a long time after her disappearance, the police came out with a fairly scandalous report that the family disputes a good deal of, regarding issues in her personal life (for example, they claimed her brother walked in on her sleeping with his fiancée, which the family totally disputes and the brother denied even talking to the detective who wrote the report.
Regarding how her family could think it was her, I guess the morning of 9/11, there is a grainy video from the lobby that shows a woman coming in and lingering a few minutes, only to leave, a little while before the towers were hit.
Bumping this thread again to recommend Island Crime. It's a podcast covering crime on Vancouver Island, and it's very similar in style to Someone Knows Something and Uncover. Each season covers a single case in depth.
I know this is an old thread, but it had the title I wanted. I'm looking for a few, new good true crime podcasts. I like ones that are deep dives into a case.
I have listened to a ton-Bearbrook, Up and Vanished, S Town, Serial, Culpable, The Thing About Pam, You Own Backyard. Can't think or name them all.
Recently Finished: The Coldest Case in Laramie Love Janesa
Just Finished-Bone Valley (really good, with recent updates)
Just started-The Apology Line (this isn't true crime)

I like the deep dive 1 case podcasts too! I’m trying to pick my next one as well. I just listened to the bone valley update today!
Proof It’s hosted by Susan Simpson if you’re familiar with Undisclosed. It came out last year. I don’t see it referenced a ton so you may not have listened to it. But I thought it was really well done. It’s definitely one of my top favorites.
Suspect - I just finished season 2 Vanished in the snow. I listened to season 1 a while ago. They were both decent

Down the Hill: the Delphi murders The Murdoch Murders podcast
Though, if you followed either story in the news, the podcast may not be as good. I listened to them both quite a bit earlier than when they came back into current news.
Totally agree with this! They always sound so rehearsed and just reading off a script which I guess is fine but a more casual approach would suit them better IMO!
Just take a drink every time Britt fake-gasps.
I cannot figure out what Brit adds to the show at all! Like when she was out I didn’t miss her at all. Though I am glad she got well and is in recovery.
I really like Morbid though sometimes I have to speed past some of their chit chat in the beginning. I have a 25 minute commute people, let’s get to the story!
I Survived and The Deck are pretty good (Deck is same host as CJ but no Brit) Something Was Wrong is good too. I learned about that here and if you haven’t listened to the WitPro episodes it’s a must!
I've stepped back from TC podcasts since the pandemic, but I still listen to those guys. Their voices are so soothing to me and I just really like them overall.
Do you know what I do not like about this podcast? They do not tell you their sources and pretty much act like they have written their scripts. They were at CrimeCon last year.
yourmother, I listen to Let's Go To Court, if I want my crime with some levity. They may not be for everyone, but I always find myself laughing along with them and have serious friendship envy.
I also like Was I In A Cult? anything by journalist Laura Beale (Dr. Death, two seasons, and Bad Batch) Bardstown (I was crying while listening to one of the victim's mother) Southern Fried True Crime The Opportunist Crimes of The Centuries I like the Dateline multi episodes Your Own Backyard Lost Hills Sweet Bobby Tom Brown's Body Queen of The Con The Shrink Next Door Good Cult The Teacher's Pet Man In The Window It Was Simple Bad Bad Thing Stranglers (about the Boston Strangler(s))
The above I listen to on Apple podcast I will go through my Wondery library and see what I have saved.

I don't understand. Are they plagiarizing? Did something happen at CrimeCon?

Kind of, yes. Most podcasters are using newspaper articles, documentaries, etc. as their sources for their episode. They never tell you which ones they use and then my friend read the transcript from one of their shows and an article she realized was a source and it was nearly word for word.
We did not attend their event, I don't think, because it conflicted with another we wanted to see more.
If we could also attend Obsessed Fest, we would, which will be in Dallas this year. You should go!

I know I am late to the game on this one and it has already been mentioned, but I just finished Your Own Backyard and it was so, so well done and is haunting. I had seen a Dateline or 2 about the case but there was so much I did not know. Paul Flores is finally in jail and this podcast is what made that happen.
*Chris Lambert is working on one final episode, no release date yet.
The Piketon Massacre was really good. A family of 4 in OH accused of murdering 8 members of another family all on the same night. It was especially interesting as the trial of one of the accused just concluded.

I know TC podcasts have been called out for plagiarism, never heard this about Gen Why. That's disappointing because I really love those guys.
I'm kind off of TC podcasts. I think the pandemic was so dark, I couldn't listen to more dark so I really leaned in to Watch What Crappens and lighter podcasts. I did get pulled back in by the Murdaugh Murders podcast, and just the entire creepy story about the whole family. I also like to wind down the day with a Dateline every now and then (I'm literally watching one right now, lol). I also bookmarked the Something Is Wrong episode mentioned in this thread. Once I think I'm out, they pull me back in! lol

I have started listening to Killed, which is about news or magazine articles that were killed by editors, but later published. It is pretty interesting. Was I In a Cult is good too. Maintenance Phase is also interesting.
I do bounce around a lot. One series that I really enjoy on Wondery is Amercian Scandal. If you like history, it is great and safe to listen with kids in the car. lol

I just finished Paper Ghosts on the Tammy Zywicki case and thought it was very good. I've always been interested in her case because she was abducted off a highway in central IL not too far from where I live (her body was found in MO).
Otherwise, most of the TC podcasts I listen to are one episode per case. I prefer ones that don't have much chit chat and even just a single host but I do sometimes listen to ones that break that mold.
A few I haven't seen mentioned here: The Trail Went Cold - single narrator, a bit dry at times, just straightforward on facts of cold cases Park Predators - single narrator, describes crimes that take place in parks (many are national parks but not all of them) True Crime Garage - this does have two hosts and some chit chat but less than other podcasts
I'm looking for some new true crime podcasts. I like ones that focus on one case. I have listened to a lot of the major ones, but I will take any recs and filter out the ones that I have already listened to.
And I am not coming empty handed, my rec is for Beyond All Repair, the last episode comes out this week.
If you're interested, there is an insane murder trial happening in MA right now. A number of podcasters/bloggers/lawyers hosting youtube shows are covering it. Opening statements happened today, and a lot of bombs were dropped about the investigation. The FBI is currently investigating the investigators and the DA specifically around this case. I've been following it very closely as I know (peripherally - not close) a number of people involved.
ETA: I didn't mention any names in the case LOL - hard to figure out which case if I don't mention that... Victim was John O'Keefe, defendant is Karen Read.
13th Juror podcast is the best overview I've heard on this case. There are a number of other youtubers that are covering it - Melanie Little is fantastic.
The whole case is incredibly disturbing. This could happen to anyone.
Another great podcast was Murder in Boston about the Stuart case in the 90's. Extremely well done. There was a documentary linked to this done on Max, but the podcast was much better.

Yes! I’ve been listening to this and I honestly have no idea what to believe. I am dyyyyyying for this last episode. I just feel terrible about what happened to Marlyne. It sounds like she was wonderful to Sophia (and pretty much everyone in her life).

Proof season 1 was so good. It’s with Susan Simpson. She did Undisclosed with Rabia Chaudry about the Adnan Syed case. Susan was instrumental in finding some info. She investigates a new case brought to her by one of the guys they focused on in later season of Undisclosed. It’s one case and it ended up being so good. They are doing season 2 right now and it’s interesting but I’m not as invested as S1.
Bone Valley - definitely one of my favorites
I assume you’ve listened to Your Own Backyard? It’s my favorite one case podcast.

LOL I just started that one a few weeks ago and now I guess I don't need to finish it. Funny that something can accidentally be spoiled by reading a thread that was started years ago! (I'm not really upset, I'm slow with podcasts and it's not like this is new).

It’s really worth finishing it! I actually started listening to it when things were originally in the news about Paul (and that’s how I heard about the podcast). So I already knew that it was going that direction. But it’s still one of the best true crime podcasts.
