Mostly just starting a new thread.
I was really excited this morning that I was going to be driving past my favorite donut shop so I thought I could get a donut on my way home after an appt...
They're closed Mondays.
But I really psyched myself up for a donut so I either have to settle for a lesser donut or wait till tomorrow. Boo.
I unpacked another dozen boxes the weekend. Chine, stemware, and table linens. H packed everything, and you know, it is not how I would have packed it, but nothing broke. So yay for that.
I also washed all my napkins. And then, because they are mostly my grandmother’s and actual linen - ironed them. As I was ironing, I realized just why our mothers and grandmothers were so excited about things like paper napkins and permanent press. But, I also found my stash of casual napkins (no ironing!) and I’m going to again try to force cloth napkins in this house.

I remember my MIL telling me she hasn’t switched to cloth napkins because she didn’t need more ironing to do. I laughed because I’ve never ironed a napkin in my life! But I hate using paper napkins now. They aren’t nearly as robust as cloth and don’t do a good job cleaning my hands IMO.

Yes! My mom always says that I'm "fancy" for using cloth, but I am far too messy of an eater for paper napkins.

To be clear, this isn’t something I normally do. But I had two dozen actual linen napkins. I could not get them folded to fit in my drawer without ironing. They were just so rumpled.

Makes sense lol! I mostly laughed because when MIL said it it was the first time I had conceived of ironing napkins for every day use. Mine are rumpled, but I don’t care. It’s a good week if I even fold them!
I do iron when I set the table for a holiday or other fancy meal.
I was outside like 80% of my awake time this past weekend, and it was all fine (though sweaty) but in the final 20 minutes I got EATEN ALIVE by mosquitos. I have so many stinking bug bites. I got so CLOSE to not having that happen. arg!
also going to a concert on tuesday! it's happening! the weather seems to be...ok? our numbers are still climbing and I'm just...I dunno man. I'm going I guess. I'm vaccinated, everybody there is vaxed or tested, it's lawn seats, it's outside, we'll have masks when it gets crowded and honestly if it gets too crowded we'll just leave and go eat ice cream instead...but goddamn it. it didn't have to be this way.

But mostly I'm just itchy AF.
Yeah…maybe? My friend may have to bail last minute, because it looks like her ex is pulling storm duty Tuesday night (and then @ issue ensue). I thought we were good until Wednesday, but it looks like Ida may roll in Tuesday night. 😬😬😬

wawa, if it makes you feel better, I've been reading up on the concerts in Europe which have been super-spreaders and they have said that it's not the going to the concert that caused issues, because outside is still better, but because of the behaviours that went with youngsters at concerts - intimate behaviours, sharing drinks, post-concert/festival rides shares or public transportation use. And many of the people there were not double jabbed yet. So, if you are double jabbed, don't hug randoms, drink only from your own cup and wear a mask when it's necessary to be cheek and jowl with others, you should be fine.

it'll be close. definitely I'll get to watch Garbage and Cat Power though, which honestly will satisfy me.

And me, I’m like “who?!” To those names. I’ve been assured I’ll recognize garbage.
semi-related. It’s fine to park at the mall and walk over, right? (Not for me, a couple other friends are joining, and he is known for being really whiney and uptight. Like, I’m stressing he is going to bitch about walking from the lot my the movie theater 🙄)

Yes, although there are several lots to park in and it's free, so it's probably not 100% necessary.
wawa (and anyone else) I got one of these recently and it's crazy how well it works: www.bugbitething.com/
I got several bites in my yard yesterday and used it on all of them, and I have no itching today at all. I heard it works best if you use it right away, but a couple of weeks ago I used it 2 days after getting eaten up and it seemed to help (though the bug bites may have been nearing the end of their natural life by then anyway).

I went to a concert at BB&T two weeks ago (lawn seats). I masked but it felt reasonably safe. People were very respectful of distance
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”

It’s a logistics thing at this point. They wanted to park at my house and have us drive them over. But then we decided to do dinner beforehand. And the whole thing ended up easier in my head to just park by dinner and walk over. Except whiney guy will whine over “that much” walking (it’s 0.7 miles by Google maps walking, which doesn’t take into account going across the parking lot).
like seriously, adding this set of people to the plans really cramped my style, which is very come what May and it’ll work out. (I.e., I think most GBCN people would hate my lack of planning)

That's what I did when I went to a concert there last week - had dinner nearby (near Color Burst Park though) and walked over. Unless he has a disability, tell him to STFU about walking .7 miles lol. That's good for him!
I'm glad y'all decided to go! Hopefully the weather cooperates. I am still symptom free after attending 2 outdoor concerts in the last couple of weeks, so I feel pretty good overall about this one too.
Waiting to hear back about whether my car can be repaired somewhat simply or if it needs an entire new engine. The latter is much more likely. If it does need a new engine, it won't be under warranty.
I guess the good news is that I'm spending so much time on vacation worrying about this issue that I'm not even thinking about work?

What the heck? why wouldn't it be under warranty? It's not that old!
I spent the last week in humidity. I about lost my damn mind a couple of times. My body doesn't know how to cool off. It was 90+ degrees all.the.time. If we get to the mid 90s, it drops 30 degrees overnight.

He does not. Technically I do. So yeah. He’s just one of those who complains about anything. Ahhhhh old friends that you hate-like 😂
wildrice they're saying the plug fell out of the oil pan so it must have had a slow leak. Blaming the last time it was serviced but it was long enough ago that I am very skeptical.
Cheap fix won't work so now we have to wait another day for them to get back to us with options.
I had an outdoor retreat today. My allergies from it being my allergy season and the smoke in the air have about done me in. Also, for part of the time the water at the facility was shut off because of a line break, so no bathrooms. I want today to be over.

FYI: we had the top part of our engine replaced, and we had to wait over a month for the parts to come in.

How was this not cancelled?!? I pee way too much to cope with that sort of nonsense.
I’m 10 days out from the Alanis concert and doing great, if that helps anyone. We were outdoors, no vaccine or testing requirements in a city that is so-so in vaccinations. I spent the ENTIRE 10 days panicking.

At least for me, it’s more the weather at this point. 🥴
went to an outdoor show in VA on Saturday. Rained out after 40 minutes.

Oh hmm. The weather forecast is considerably worse than it was the last time I looked. I wonder what will happen!
I am actually supposed to have my first meeting for a graduate class I'm taking tomorrow night. I already told the professor I wasn't going to be there and it seemed like no big deal, but I'd prefer to go to that than to sit in the rain all night or get the show cancelled last minute...

We didn't know about the line break until we got there. The potability of the water was a concern, but bottled water was provided. All other water was on. It was determined a few hours into the day that [somethingsomethingtofixsomething] needed to happen and the water was shut off. At that point we were in it for the long haul. It wasn't too bad, though.

Rant: job applications that ask for a resume and cover letter and then force you to enter your entire resume into an online form on top of that, along with mailing addresses and phone numbers for every position you’ve had for the past 15 years.
Rant part 2: job applications that want the names and contact information for 3 professional references upfront when you submit your materials. I wasn’t expecting to need that until later in the process so now I’m waiting on one of my references to return my email with their new phone number so I can actually submit everything.
