I also think we're going to do a repeat of Covid Halloween from last year. A group of us at the bus stop talked about how having tables out on driveways actually made it feel kind of MORE community like, instead of having to go up to doors, and all that, because everyone was outside being social. So I think our HOA is going to recommend people do that again this year. That's one thing from covid I'd like to actually carry on after it's over.
The was quite common in Hawaii in the before times. We'd all set up in carports. Bevies for adults, punch for kids, and a shitton of candy. It was basically a huge block party. Waikiki is probably the biggest busiest night of the year. I once made kick-ass jellyfish costumes. Like full on soldered light strands. It took us an hour to walk 2 blocks with all the people wanting to take pics when we gave up and hung at a bar the rest of the night.

@@@@@@
My DS(5) will be Rubble from Paw Patrol. I got him a backhoe costume at TJ Maxx two years ago that he still plays with daily (best $25 I ever spent) and he has a Rubble jacket. Those paired with a yellow mask. Done, done and done.
I've played with the idea of getting Skye and Zuma shirts for H and me, but I probably won't. (DS has given everyone in his immediate life a paw patrol character. I'm Skye and H is Zuma. My dad is Chase, my mom is Rocky, my sister is Marshall etc.)
J is only one so we aren't going trick or treating, but I'm hoping we get trick or treaters this year! J is going to be the carebear sunshine bear and I'm going to be the rainbow carebear. My wife is declining to don a bear costume.
We did a similar theme one year. DH didn't want to play along, so he wore this tshirt instead:

Since we left our church, which always does trunk or treat on Halloween, I’m excited to give out candy and decorate our lawn. Nothing all out, but still.

@@@ How are people feeling about trick or treating? We didn't even do daycare's trunk or treat last year, thinking it'd be much better this year (lol @ me!) But DD is 3.5 and really into the idea now. Probably ok to take her on our street in a distanced manner?

we were in Waikiki for Halloween one year as kids and went ToTing and it was so fun!
I’ve never been a fan of dressing up and our neighborhood doesn’t get trick or treaters.
@@@ My kids are older so I am hoping they go to friend’s houses and I can stay home by myself. I’m officially the Scrooge of Halloween.
I am kind of here as well. I do not love to dress up and we live in a rural place so we get no ToTers (nor can anyone see our house even if we did decorate...) but we put out a few pumpkins we pick.
Now that our @@@son is the right age, I get a little more into it with him, in regards to a costume and ToTing. He is 4 and asked to be a chicken this year, so I am making him a costume. We will ToT in a neighborhood near his school.

My old neighborhood was like this, too. It started because we had so many kids that would come from outside the neighborhood, there would be traffic jams on sidewalks leading to doors. Just a steady stream of kids for 2 hours. So we started setting up at the sidewalk.
Is it too soon to start talking about Halloween, the most wondrous holiday of the year?
I am trying very very hard not to buy a life-size mermaid skeleton that I definitely don't need to add to my skeleton collection.
Can you share a link to your mermaid skeleton? We're in a new house this year and there's a water feature out front so that could be amazing! 😍
I adore Halloween, but we moved at the beginning in August and I'm trying to motivate myself to decorate -- it sounds like so much work to move everything that just found a home.

We did ToT inside our house last year (like Easter egg hunting).
This year we will ToT in our new neighborhood. There's also a trunk or treat thing at DS(5)' elementary school we may go to.
ETA: I'll add a yellow mask to DS' Rubble costume and he's good to go.
OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG! I just ran across the house with my laptop to husband's office to show him. I am now motivated to decorate for Halloween and this is how I'm spending my annual budget. <3
She has been ordered, along with a duck family and a frog. I couldn't convince husband to spend another $80 on flamingos that I found on Amazon so those will be saved for next year!
I will totally post pictures, but you'll probably be sad that our water feature is a waterfall/pond and not cherubs and dolphins.

Trick or treating on a street is outdoors. You’re fine.
So long as it's not freezing here, I plan on setting up out front of the house, and doing my best to set up something that allows for some social distancing (if only just a table with candy on it that I sit back and watch...)
We had to isolate last year due to a Covid exposure and I was so sad about it.
I'll admit I don't usually dress up, myself, but I love seeing the kids get all into the day. A couple years ago, we had _gorgeous_ weather for ToT'ing, and I took my spinning wheel out front and spent the time between batches of kids spinning. (yarn, not bike) Folks assuming the spinning set up was a costume, so hey, maybe it'll work again?

I love this! You should wear a period costume or dress up as sleeping beauty.
Everyone, please meet Ariel! She is very much looking forward to being a temporary part of this world to see what Halloween has to offer. So far, it's mostly a dog who thinks he's too good to share his perch while waiting for squirrels and delivery people, but she has high hopes for the future.

As we moved in 3 weeks before our first lockdown, I have just Whatsapped our street group to see if Trick or Treat actually happened on our street in the before times.
We have a big crowd of kids in our hood. Last year I took inspiration from so many online pics and created a socially distanced candy chute. I used a 10 foot PVC pipe that i painted black and created a dementor with decorations and a paper mache head. I also hung battery powered hanging candlesticks from the trees and roof line and blasted spooky harry potter music. It was a big hit.
I want to do it again, but don't feel like I have the energy (i threw away the paper mache head because it would attract roaches)! I need to muster up the willpower!!
It wasn't anything for a magazine cover or anything but it was fun.
Here are some of the hanging candles.
And this is at the end of the night... after a lot of cobwebs had fallen and the hood of the dementer was pulled back a bit (when it was covering more of the head it didn't look as round... here it sorta looks like Jack from Jack in the Box got really mad, lol).
And candles along the roofline. The candles with the harry potter spooky music really made the whole thing...
We got our display up this weekend. There is more closer to the house, but privacy.
DD came up with it since she's really into TaeKwonDo right now. They are doing Poomsae and board breaking. She even made sure we put on appropriate colored belts and that the breaking technique was right.
May I present my pride and joy. I happened to wander in on a restocking day and found him. I thought for sure I was SOL for this year.
Holy Moly - that is amazing!!! Where did you buy him?
@@@@ My daughter wants to buy all the huge Nightmare before Christmas huge statues at Home Depot right now - but they've got nothing on that big mamma jamma!
