We had our very first ToTers since owning a home, and I had such a great time giving out candy. I’m sad it’s over, but I’m already planning for next year!
We visited some new local friends today and they invited us TOTing with them. It was like seeing TOTing in the movies, with all the groups walking around. Our neighborhood gets nobody at all. Bonkers.
DD (4) has definitely been overstimulated with all the holiday excitement and treats this past week because she had a massive tantrum when it was time to go home. We’ve been trying to reason with her about not wanting more and more stuff, and then family and friends and random neighbors/people in stores just kept handing her treats and sending packages in the mail - which is of course nice, but there were way too many conversations about why she couldn’t just eat candy for dinner. I’ll be glad to get back into our normal routine tomorrow.
I found a charming tweet about Steve Buscemi handing out candy in Brooklyn dressed as his “How do you do, fellow kids?” meme.

We got maybe a 1/4 of the ToTers that we normally do. I was sad, b/c this year H hit his decor out of the park. Randos walking by were taking pictures--and they didn't even have any kids with them!
Do we think that people are continuing to stay home b/c of COVID?
“With sorrow—for this Court, but more, for the many millions of American women who have today lost a fundamental constitutional protection—we dissent,”
notsopicky, we had fewer than the last time Halloween was on a Sunday, but still pretty close to the usual amount. It seemed like we had fewer teenagers than usual.
We saw a lot of super cute family costumes. We had Ghostbuster parents with a StaPuft marshmallow man toddler, father/son gladiators, a family of Harry Potter characters, a Wizard of Oz family, with kids as Dorothy and the Tin man and adults as The Cowardly Lion, the Wicked Witch, and I think the third adult was Dorothy....I can't remember them all.
I think fewer adults took treats from us than usual... they were just dressed up to be with their kids and weren't trick or treating.
We had the usual amount of kids, which is to say we had 5 people get candy. DS paired up with the neighbor kid that is his age. All the neighbors loved them, and I think some flipped on their lights when they heard them coming just to let them have more doors to knock on. I say this because the treats were unusual from those houses (like poptarts). LOL!

House for 2021 - a snippet of our custom projection mapping and the shitty streetlight that ruins my decor vibes. We had probably half of the ToTs we had last year and are down considerably from years past. We've already stripped everything down and installed our turkey and Thanksgiving signs (we have a neighbor who is an early decorator for Christmas and it drives them nuts).
Last year was our first Halloween at this address and we didn't get any ToTers at all. So I didn't buy any candy to hand out this year.
So of course last night even with our porch light off we got a doorbell ring. We didn't answer because we had nothing to give. (No poptarts in the house, lol.)
I can't figure out how to link an Instagram post here, but Chasten + Pete dressed their twins up as orange safety cones and I DIE from the cuteness and outstanding branding.

We gave pop tarts to the littles on purpose. lol
We didn't have anything for the littles, so yesterday we looked for snack packs that had something we could give them, along with something that we would actually eat if there were leftovers....the box had cheese-itz for us, chips, and pop tarts that we could give away.
My neighbor told me that they have kept track and we have been getting around a hundred trick or treaters. I thought that number was too high, and I was right. Ithere were a lot of people around last night, but only about forty actual trick or treaters. I think he forgot that he has the house where everyone gathers, where the adults have access to the candy bowl all night, so they skew the numbers. I think the most we've had has been around fifty or sixty.
