Merck has officially requested emergency use authorization for its antiviral drug. Approval could come within weeks. This + EUA for @@ vaccines would make me feel much more comfortable entering into our cold weather/holiday months here.

I'm going to the Rangers home opener Thursday night, and obviously ice hockey is played in indoor arenas. I'm not terribly nervous, but that feeling is always there these days. I'll be 2 weeks out from my booster shot tomorrow, all attendees must be vaccinated (except ineligible @ who must be masked up if attending), and our seats are barstool seats at the very top of the arena so we're only close to those sitting to our left or right. I feel like it's as safe as it can be for something I really really enjoy and missed attending for the last 19 months.
A friend of the family died over the weekend from Covid. It even two weeks ago he was spouting anti-mask/vaxx nonsense all over FB. Of course the family doesn’t publicly say it was Covid nor do they channel their grief into advocating for everyone to take common sense measures or get vaccinated.
We won’t be going to the funeral, it’s going to be a superspreader event.
Also, my god mother’s son, 30yo, has been in the hospital with Covid pneumonia since late last week. Oxygen % in the 70s.
And my (super liberal) brother STILL won’t get vaccinated. ::head explodes::
My vaccinated coworker came down with COVID last week. She is super cautious, more so than me and was shocked. She is the first close IRL person I know to get it. Her symptoms have been manageable from just being quarantined at home. The rest of us who were at work that day have tested negative. She got it from her cousin whose symptoms are even more mild than hers.
All this to say I really don’t understand the hate for the mandates at work. My coworker will most likely be back to work at the end of her 10 day quarantine. Her return is relatively predictable and helps me run my business better compared to someone who has to be admitted to the hospital in much worse condition with a big question mark on their return date.
And the public mask mandate hatred, this is just stupid. Unfortunately I see this from people who work in the healthcare profession with me. I went to a wedding yesterday and less than 10% were wearing masks. The remaining 300 people were carrying on like COVID doesn’t exist. Or are ok with the risk. A small part of me felt silly wearing a Level 3 mask with a super fancy outfit but the rest of me was like “yeah, not bringing any of your potential germs home.”
So he’s pointlessly running for the R nom in 2024, I’m assuming?
I don't want to feel cynical but the new proposed districts mean not pointless.
I meant for POTUS, and it’s pointless because unless Trump dies, he’s going to be the nom himself. But Abbott is really digging his heels in on this BS.
What happened to Abbott? He was kind of sort reasonable at one point. He was one of the first R governors to mandate masks (then one of the first to say never mind but still).
He is clearly concerned about Covid. He took every step he could to protect himself.
Why is he being such an asshole? Also what happens with the OSHA ruling comes in to play? Does this play out in courts?
If you got the J&J, what are you thinking about boosters?
I know the data is being reviewed this week for J&J and Moderna booster, but I believe there is also data in review for cross-vaccinating.
I think I’d prefer to get a moderna than another J&J, but if I remember correctly the J&J second dose had up to 100% efficacy. So I have no idea what to do. I do feel a bit stressed over the (very very rare, I know) risk of clots (family history of strokes), which means I’ll be a wreck for two weeks if I get a J&J booster.

He was afraid of it until he got vaccinated and had it. Now he feels safe and so it is all about power play and money. He is the worst type of person.
I wonder what this is going to do, if anything, to the large corps in TX that want to mandate. I wonder if they'll just move operations.
I was wondering the same thing.
Or, companies based elsewhere but have an office in Texas.
At the very least, TX economy depends on the federal government for a lot of economic stability in the form of contractors. The feds can decide to move those contracts elsewhere and/or not give them to entities in TX. It's weird to see a governor who is so wrapped up in politics that feds control willing to blow up his entire state.
I ended up answering my own question and scheduled my booster for November once I'm done with this work class (in case I have side effects again).
We laminated both cards because that's WHAT MY DOCTOR OFFICE SAID TO DO and gave me a coupon to do it. I just looked at DH's and his stickers from work take up the whole card. There's no room for the 3rd dose anyway.

Can we just have a national digital registry?
Your info should be in your state's immunization registry. I just logged into mine and both of my COVID vaccines were there. I got them both at a mass vax clinic.

I just went to Virginia's and it can't find me. I was vaccinated via the local hospital system that my PCP belongs to.

spinnaker5, I just checked virginia and it cannot locate me. It appears that the providers have to first register with the registry and then provide the data.
I can ask when I go for my booster, but it doesn't seem like our health dept has anything mandatory/universal.
Our state calls me at least once a month to remind me to get my 2nd dose (which I did in May) and I tell them every time I already have, so my comfort for their database accuracy is very low.
