I know this was probably/maybe discussed before but I just watched a video about it so was curious what are your opinions regarding Kim Cattrall v SJP.
I kind of think SJP is a mean girl in it all. I am sure Kim Cattrall can be difficult but the things that (allegedly) caused issues were Kim’s asking for (IMO) reasonable things (demanding equal pay, for example). From what I have seen, SJP isn’t close with any of them either, I mean closer than KC but Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis seem to be actual friends.
KC was pretty vocal about her issues with people and it seemed to me that SJP manipulated that to make herself look good. Also, the fact that SJP is good friends with Andy Cohen colors my opinion as he has been rumored to be an ass.

I miss Samantha.
I'm team Kim Cattrall. I have nothing else to add.

Regarding SJP and KC.
If I recall, later on in production of the show, it seemed like KC wanted more creative and financial stake in the show. As in she wanted to be considered and compensated as one of the creators, producers or writers of the show. In my mind, this meant she wanted a stake in basically the intellectual property part of the show, that was high value and that initially SJP, Candace Bushnell and Michael Patrick King had been involved in because THEY were the producers of the show.
I feel pretty neutral on this but often times I feel like Kim Catrell needed a better agent and there was a negotiation error that was made that then turned personal.
In a very strange way, it reminds me of how Scotty Pippen undervalued himself with the Chicago Bulls and then was a super valuable player who had super shitty contract and yes. He was Uber bitter about it and also wasn't "friends" with Michael Jordan.
Carrie’s character is consistently written as being incredibly self centered and let down by everyone. HIRE A NURSE if you want undivided attention to your personal and medical needs. You are wealthy. Your friend was watching you sleep for hours and then got distracted by your other friend who was visiting you at your apartment. It’s not like Miranda ditched her to go to the bar knowing she’d wake up and need help getting out of the bed. She was in the other room.
And I am seeing Carrie’s apartment in much greater detail than I remember from SATC. It seems smaller and less charming. I have always LOVED that apartment. And the big staircase to her door is new. I always thought she was on the first floor. Like, you walk up the big steps in front and then through the door and then off the the right for her apartment.
She always lived on the second floor but they never showed the entry. She often peeked out the second floor window. That's where she worked, she talked to Aiden and Big from the window.
What is confusing me is that in those old brownstone apartments, the first floor are at ground level with the entrance under the big stone stairs, and the second floor is reached by walking up the big stone staircases in the front of the building. They have never featured an inside staircase in any show or movie, and it just seemed so out-of-place and definitely contrived for the sole purpose of her leaning on an umbrella to call attention to her back/hip issue. Never mind how they skipped how she got up the outdoor stone steps. Mercy! The mental gymnastics they put us through just to suspend all disbelief every where else, too.
I laugh at myself, because I'm up in arms over certain details and let the rest of the completely unrealistic stuff fly. I think I'm this way about all TV and movies, not just this show. Speaking of which, I wasn't a devoted follower of the original series. Was there ever a back story on how every main character has endless wealth? I mean, I know Big was some kind of finance guy, but how did Carrie live in an apartment larger than a shoebox and afford her wardrobe when she was a single writer?
When she originally got the apartment it was rent controlled. That was why it was such a big deal when she had to buy it back from Aiden, after they got it because I think her building was going co-op or something.

Yes, but there were episodes where she opened her door to a smaller hallway, definitely not something on the first floor of the brownstone. They never showed the stairs, but they also did not show her off a foyer type thing either.
I think I'm going to keep reading spoilers before watching each episode. You guys make it sound way worse than it ends up being, probably because you are setting my expectations low lol.
I didn't think Carrie was out of line for being upset about Miranda's kitchen sex. She is grieving and recovering from surgery, I imagine she is exhausted and it WAS pretty disrespectful of Miranda to do that right there, especially with her boss. She also did say right away that she could hire a nurse, and Miranda and Charlotte insisted she didn't need to and they would help. So I get being both frustrated and concerned about WTF Miranda was doing since it was pretty out of character. I think she softened a lot when Miranda explained her perspective.
One random thing, did they ever explain why none of these people have biological family? Carrie didn't even have anyone at Big's funeral. No parents, siblings, even a cousin or aunt?

I don’t think anyone thinks Miranda wasn’t out of line and disrespectful, it’s that Carrie didn’t yell to stop them and so she could get help.

I've always thought that was weird too! I remember from SATC that Miranda's mom (I think?) died and she went to the funeral out of town and the ladies attended. That's the only time I can recall anyone's family being present in the show and even then it was brief.

She did call out, but they could not hear her, some some odd reason given how small that apartment is and not many closed off rooms.

Charlottes brother hooks up with Samantha at one point.
“With sorrow—for this Court, but more, for the many millions of American women who have today lost a fundamental constitutional protection—we dissent,”

Yes, aside from that the only people who seemed to have family around were the partners like Steve. I always got the impression that the 4 main characters were transplants to NYC from other parts of the US, so maybe that's why they never had family around?
Also not the point but I can't help but think that Miranda and Steve's house in Brooklyn must be worth a fortune by now. I think they bought it back when Brooklyn was considered the "East London" of NYC (probably nobody ever said that, but this is my frame of reference). There was a whole episode consisting of "oh no, you can't leave Manhattan" when they bought it.

I agree with all this and feel like I said I understood why Carrie would be upset in my first post. I mean: she pissed the bed.
The only thing I didn't understand was it kind of felt like Carrie was shaming Miranda SO hard to the point Miranda basically blurted out tearfully "I'm so unhappy! I'm DEEPLY unhappy" and Carrie..bc its SO often about her was like "oh. I had no idea 🤷♀️"
I know Miranda seriously effed up, but I still felt her pain when she wobble-voiced out how unhappy she was and had to own her drunkenness. 💔
I used to looooove listening to the commentary on the DVDs back in the day. It was a deliberate choice for the four women to have family but never feature them too prominently. They wanted the focus to be the family relationship between the four and not the families they were born into.
Ex. Charlotte’s wedding to Trey. Charlottes is walked down the aisle by her father but he steps in right at the very last minute and is blurry. The scene is really about Charlotte and Carrie discussing running away.
The only family I can think of being featured in any real depth are the McDougals. And that was truly negative; I wonder if that was on purpose? We see Charlotte’s brother once, Miranda’s mom/siblings once, Big’s Mom once. The McDougals were an entire arc. I could be forgetting others.
As an aside, there is a podcast called We Couldn't Help But Wonder where two NYC friends talk about each episode. One of them has seen all the episodes and one is seeing them for the first time. It's a fun listen. They are doing episodes on the reboot too.

Charlotte also has a brother named Wesley, who was having marriage problems with his wife, Leslie.
Also, when Miranda’s mom dies in the OG series, she mentions fighting with her siblings over funeral arrangements. Carrie later writes about how sometimes the family you choose is the one that really matters.

Steve's mom was a fairly prominent character for a bit, at least.

She lived with them and had Alzheimer’s. She wandered out the door one day, and Miranda had to go find her. I think that was the last episode she was in.

I just looked, it says she was in 4 episodes of the original show. I felt like it was more for some reason, but I guess not.

I am definitely here for “I didn’t realize I was queer until I was an adult” stories because oh hey, that’s me. But I agree with whoever said it’s shitty after Steve’s cheating was SUCH a major plot point for her. That being said, if you haven’t fucked your partner in 6 years and haven’t even talked about it, what are you even doing?
Really enjoying my Peloton i bought after watching ep 1. Big died so I could ride.
I was a huge fan and follower of the original SATC and even liked the 2 movies.
But this reboot… there’s something off with it. Like many others have said previously, it seems forced. The dynamics between the ladies (and even between Carrie/ Stanford and Charlotte/ Anthony is off-kilter). I feel like they’re trying to force Anthony into being the next Samantha. Or trying to interject too many one-liners.
Miranda is a hot mess - it would’ve been better IMO to have her deal with 1 issue - delve deeper into her issues with alcohol or with her sexuality - not cram everything together at once.
Carrie said something in this latest Diwali episode that made me cringe - when Miranda said figuring out her sexuality was a big deal, Carrie turns around and says something like “NO! Big dying was a big deal!” and of course the focus was brought back to her. I understand her life was altered so drastically with Big’s death. But that doesn’t diminish Miranda’s issues or Charlotte’s (dealing with being a parent to Rock).
My favourite part of the reboot so far has been watching Lily and Rock (and getting to know their personalities a bit more) and the cameo by Jonathan Groff. I was hoping he’d break out into song during the plastic surgery consultation. LOL

First Carrie doesn’t call 911 when she finds Big on the floor after suffering a heart attack still alive then barely above a whisper she calls for Miranda to help her because she had to pee.
Girl needs to find her voice.
I would have yelled for my friend if I had to pee. Then if I saw she was having sex with my boss I was have yelled louder. That was all ridiculous.
WHY weren't Charlotte and Carrie checking the clearly visible content lists on those boxes in the storage unit instead of just opening random boxes!!! Carrie obviously paid someone to pack up their old apartment - use them!

I saw an article..I can try and find it again..that was titled something like "and just like that..the problem with the reboot is that we aren't suddenly middle aged"
In a lot of the scenarios, the characters seem like they..were almost teleported into the present moment and they are surprised by DEI issues in particular. I'm younger than they are but still a cis "middle aged" heterosexual white lady and I'm seriously hoping I don't present this fucking naive. Because change in the world has been happening for years. Their surprise is what's strange at this point in time. Why are they lagging?
Miranda has NO IDEA how to address her teacher properly and the bumbles pronouns!, Charlotte has NO black friends! They have NO experience with sexual identity or trans issues! On a smaller scale they are confused by podcasts and instagram..
But! Charlotte goes to the dinner with her school friend and is WELL aware and educated on all the Black artists in her home and speaks to them and their impact? I mean what? That alone would suggest that Charlotte HAD been exposed to diverse people and should have had them more in her sphere and network. It didn't make sense.
Or Miranda and Steve are open to allowing their teenage son to having his girlfriend live with them?
It's a weird mix of like understanding the current climate and not.
WHERE HAVE THEY BEEN LIVING!?
How could they have been living in NYC of all places and not have had more exposure?

That's all I've got.
I thought the same thing! They were all super visible and detailed because someone packed for her. Compared to our house where it could say towels and you'd have kitchen tools and kids' toys.
Also I get that Charlotte has always been conservative and uptight, but it's made her so unlikable. Honestly I'm hate watching at this point because I find them all unlikable for different reasons.
Last thought - why didn't Carrie check the smoke detectors? I get that she's all fancy and keeps sweaters in her oven, but how is she that useless and clueless?

I could be wrong here, but I think it was Charlotte who was saying it was a big deal, and she was more referring to the fact that Miranda had sex with someone outside her marriage (or I interpreted it that way).
Regardless, I agree with you that Big's death, while big, isn't the only big thing! It is definitely a big deal, but that being huge and life-altering doesn't mean other things aren't as well.

All of this.
If Miranda and Steve are so “progressive” with sex, why can’t they talk about it with each other??
