Just a quick update. I finally got my counts today. 161 of 120. Thank you for talking me down earlier. It took about a year from consolidation and about 11ish months from application. My husband was very slow on the draw. He consolidated early but did not get his application or ECFs in until October. I hope his doesn't take as long, but I know it is a waiting game at this point.
OMG this is amazing! I mean it sucks that things are held up in court for the forgiveness, but the longer I’m not forced to pay a damn cent on these loans the better.

Same. And it really would have sucked to be paying them down while the forgiveness is pending. I’m not sure if I’m being overly optimistic about SCOTUS but I so hope that it goes through. Our budget needs this so badly.
Holy crap. I need 8 more payments (Nov-June) to qualify for PSLF so this means I won't have to pay next year like I had anticipated. I'd heard rumors they might do this and thought it made sense in light of the court challenge but I didn't want to get my hopes up.

Do the payments during the pause count towards PSLF since the waiver ended?

I think they will as long as the person is currently enrolled in a qualifying repayment plan (income based.) They will no longer be allowed to waive in from a non qualifying repayment plan though.

Paused payments counting predate the pslf waiver. The months count as long as you have qualifying employment. You don’t need to be in a qualifying repayment plan until the payment pause ends.

Good to know! The rules are extremely confusing with all this other pandemic stuff on top.
I didn’t get an email nor do I have notice in Mohela that I’ve been approved. Should I be concerned?
Yeah, I’m kind of concerned too. I applied via the Beta round but then also the regular application because it told me to do so. I probably confused the government.
My loan is through Aidvantage now, and they haven’t mentioned it at all.

I’m wondering the same. I applied during the beta round as well, but it specifically said I did not need to reapply when it went officially live…
Jalapeñomel, penguingrrl, I actually got the email at 1am, so either they're watching this thread, or they just starting sending them. I had assumed people got their weeks ago or something.

DH got his in the middle of the night. I am SO excited because he had private loans, was offered a chance to consolidate in to Fed loans and then applied for PSLF. We don’t know where he’s at in the process, exactly, but nothing was taken from our account this month and that’s a win for now.

Apparently 2 differently worded "approval"emails went out. The first round was more direct, saying in the body of the email that forgiveness has been approved and sent to your loan servicing provider. The one i got yesterday did not say this. I only read the subject line at first, but learned via reddit that two different versions are out there.

I got the first one. What did yours say?
I got two yesterday. The first looked like an automated "your application has been approved" type email. The second was longer and came from the Dept. of Education account. It basically said the same thing (you're approved but the GOP is trying to fuck you over and we won't stop fighting for you), but it provided a clearer explanation of the extended pause and felt more personal. It also explained why they had to stop accepting/approving applications.
Both emails were "signed" by Cardona, but the templates were different.
I felt a little better after getting the first one. I felt a lot better after the second. I dabble a bit in email marketing for my job, so I can imagine how complicated it is to send emails to millions (my biggest send list is just under 20,000). I appreciate that they took the time to send these emails out, and I actually feel hopeful that they'll win the court battle. 🤞🤷♀️

They better freaking win. Wasn’t the delay in making the call due to ensuring it was “legal” for Biden to do? If they weren’t sure, he could have made the decision nearly 2 years ago!

They are as sure as they can be and did it the smartest way they could to ensure it would be upheld but they also can’t control the fact that the final legal result is up to judges/justices who don’t always make decisions based on legal reasoning.

I didn't think I'd be eligible -- my FFEL loans were with Navient, but I saw gretchenindisguise say to consolidate to Direct so I did and chose Nelnet and once that went through, submitted the forgiveness application.
I got an email yesterday that my application was approved! I really hope the lawsuits fail and this goes through.

We were talking about this today, and it seems in the language that the loan pause will continue until the litigation is done. That could take a while, right? So maybe we will at least get a reprieve from payments for even longer.

Wait, were you able to do this recently? Since they cut out the FFEL loan holders from forgiveness in September?

Maybe I'm misremembering what type of loans I had originally. I just remember gretchenindisguise saying that you could consolidate to move the loan back to federal instead of private, which I did.
