Trump went on Fox and said this is happening because of the rigged election.
"He was going to be satisfied with a peace, and now he sees the weakness and the incompetence and the stupidity of this administration, and, as an American, I'm angry about it, and I'm saddened by it," he continued, referring to Russian President Vladimir Putin. "And it all happened because of a rigged election. This would have never happened."
I seriously hopes he dies a horrible death. I’m so disgusted by this rhetoric in the face of this catastrophe. I also wouldn’t be shocked one but if we find out there was some sort of a collusion and Trump profits from this in some way.
“With sorrow—for this Court, but more, for the many millions of American women who have today lost a fundamental constitutional protection—we dissent,”
I know that economic sanctions are the right move, and that our thoughts need to be primarily with the Ukrainians, but boy this is going to hurt millions and millions of innocent Russians too.

I don’t understand these questions for Biden that he is getting. We all know Putin doesn’t give a shit about sanctions right now. What do they want Biden to do? Everyone wants an end game today. Everyone wants more but short of troops on the ground what else can be done?

Yep - I agree on both of these. He is such a vile human.
It’s interesting to see the questions being asked, almost as if they’re implying he isn't doing enough. Yet, when he was sounding the alarm not too long ago, the questions were mostly “but what proof do you have?!”

Short of US and allied boots on the ground - this is what needs to happen. And I have to believe we are holding back more actions as the days/weeks go on so we don’t immediately jump to ground troops.
I really feel awful for Ukrainians and the ordinary citizens or Russia. They clearly don’t want to this either but Putin is hanging them out to dry.

Right. Everyone (ahem, the Republicans) calling for military assistance in Ukraine would be up in arms if we end up having full scale war there. They can't have it both ways 🤬
I think Biden is generally a weak public speaker, but I think he does a good job with Q&A - it really shows his intelligence and preparation.
I'm seeing a lot of "why won't he answer the questions"
I'm like "you would like Biden to make a prediction on when this will end?" Thats just ridiculous.
I do want to know what they mean by "personal sanctions" on Putin. I found an article but it was paywalled and I saw references to Putins "secret wealth"?
As a follow-up, I DID email her and told her I was thinking about her and her family and hoped everyone is safe. She emailed me back with "thanks for your support, I appreciate it," so I agree it was the right thing to do today. Thanks everyone.

Oh yeah, Putin is rumored to be the richest man on earth, honestly.

We need to sanction Belarus too. Belarus-like states are the goal of Putin. Sure, it’s an independent country and all but with a leader who is basically Putin Jr. And now Lukashenko is like “Here Putin, you can have all my land from which to launch attacks into Ukraine.” Wherever there is no Lukashenko-type leader, Putin will install one by force.

I am seeing so much of people posting on social media that if Trump was in office this wouldn't have happened, or that this is all Biden's fault. So what's the thought process? That Putin views Biden as weak and would allow the invasion? That Putin respects Trump enough to not invade if Trump was still in office? I thought about asking about people's reasoning on FB, but I didn't want to engage the idiots either.

Trump would have told Putin I will nuke your entire country if you invade and Putin would have believed him. They are both crazy. Also Trump would have said that because he knows that oil prices and stock market would have affected his Presidency and that's all he cares about.

And you think Trump would have said that? All these remarks of Trump's make it seem like he's perfectly fine with Putin invading.

He is now because he’s not in office and it has no direct effect on him. He immediately called into Fox News last night.

I saw a take that said that Putin didn't invade or act up during Trump's presidency because Trump was basically his puppet so why would he rock that boat? But I think trying to predict what Putin would or wouldn't do under certain circumstances is a fool's game.

I didn’t realize there were mass protests in Russia today. People don’t want war.

I’m sure that’s the spin. This didn’t happen when Trump was in office bc Putin was scared of him. Meanwhile, in Moscow…

My Russian friend changed their Facebook profile picture to a black square today, which I’m assuming is some kind of protest/statement but I’m not sure exactly what the meaning is.

There’s no way in hell. Maybe Putin would have done this with Trump in office too. Probably would have. And Trump would have gone along with it or been super soft like the UK. I don’t believe for a second Trump would have said anything about nukes to Putin.

Choices put out a Ukraine lesson plan the other day but not sure if it's been updated as of yet. I also have some videos from my APUSH group on the history behind it all if you want.
