OMG I just listened to an extended clip of Ted Cruz’s exchange. Wow, he is such a pedantic grandstanding (and racist) asshole. Can’t even imagine how hard it was to keep her cool and not fall for his gotcha questions.
@@@
I assigned my affinity group to find clips of the hearing that showed racist and misogynistic undertones (overtones!). Almost every group picked the Cruz section and just tore him apart. He is such a dick.
Totally agree — such a slimy dick!! It wasn’t just the statements, it was the leading questions where he was clearly aiming for a “gotcha” that would be a good talking point on cable news. And these hearings went on for ~11 hours?! I can’t imagine how exhausting that was and how easy it would be to slip.
Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina announced Thursday that he will not vote for President Joe Biden’s Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson, despite supporting her nomination to a previous Senate-confirmed position last year.

That’s pretty much what they said. Felt like he was trying to trap her. Asking her to comment on CRT felt like he was asking her to be a representative of Black people. Cutting her off was mansplaining. They were appalled that he made posters. Nothing gets by them…
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
Susan Collins is a yes, which nice to have at least 1 GOP vote. Maybe some others will too. How long will Bryer stay/when does she get a vote and sworn in?
Only three Republican senators voted in favor of Jackson in 2021 when the Senate confirmed her to fill a vacancy on a powerful DC-based appellate court: Collins as well as Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska. Murkowski and Graham have not yet said where they stand on Jackson's nomination. Graham told CNN he plans to announce his position on Jackson sometime this week. GOP Sen. Mitt Romney also met with Jackson on Tuesday, but has not yet said whether he'll support her after expressing an openness to vote in favor of her nomination to the Supreme Court.
Romney and Murkowski said will vote for her per CNN.

Collins too. The three of them voted to advance her nomination after the committee deadlocked and have said they’ll vote to confirm.
I'm so excited!! And quite relieved that the whole awful spectacle of ugly attacks is over. Not a lot of good news nowadays, so I'm glad we have something to be happy about.
This celebration of Judge KBJ…if you are watching and not crying, you need to find and dust off your soul.
This country is such a mindf*ck to me right now. We are seeing history with KBJ in the Supreme Court, Kamala as VP and it’s amazing. At the same time women’s rights are still under attack, racism and gun violence are still massive issues, Trump very well May run/get elected in 2024. I just can’t let me self get excited about this stuff. I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop. I hate that the world is so messed up I can’t truly appreciate the history I am witnessing.
My comment was not intended to invalidate anyone’s complicated feelings about this currently shitty chapter. It was just such a wonderful occasion listening to the sincere and moving speeches and watching an amazing black woman get everything she deserved (except the abuse during the hearings that got a mention), that even my cold, cynical heart swelled with joy and the tears flowed freely. Sorry fernweh. (Hugs)
When she heard, my DD rushed in to tell me that Justice Jackson was confirmed. She was so relieved and happy. I had so many mixed emotions about the shitty treatment Justice Jackson received at the hearings and the shitty, loaded, dishonest “questions” that she got that I was still feeling a little jaded when I heard the confirmation news.
But seeing the pure joy on my DD’s face when she told me that she heard the news gave me joy, too. JUSTICE JACKSON IS CONFIRMED. Go suck it you MF haters.
