On Friday in DC someone was indiscriminately firing down at people on the sidewalk, sniper-style. He shot four people and killed himself. No one else died, but I only know about it because my cousin lives across the street from his apartment. Also virtually no media.

I think it was the mixture of yet another mass shooting and this guy seemingly not having anything in particular he was protesting that they've found so far. There have been many self-immolation protests that got international attention because it was an exclamation point on long standing clear protests.

They don’t yet have a motive for the shooter, but Wynn Bruce was a well known climate change activist and a Buddhist.

This man is dangerous. I am more worried about him than I am about Trump. He holds the same appeal as Trump does, is deliberately catering to the same base, and is far more intelligent.

Yes I think they would. I don’t think he has anything to gain by keeping it secret and this administration doesn’t push the covid is a hoax narrative like the previous one.

I follow the TSA IG page, which is hilarious. They discussed this a while back and IIRC, they basically follow local/state rules on what happens.  So if you showed up at the airport in a gun friendly state, the penalties are fairly minor.  If you did the same thing in a state with strong restrictions, there would be more severe consequences.   You pay a civil penalty to TSA/feds, but criminal charges come from state/local laws.

I think that is completely ridiculous. There are lots of federal rules that apply to airports and this should absolutely be one of them.

I saw this morning that VP Harris got Paxlovid treatment as well, so she should be fine. Of course folks are upset that she's getting it, since it's not widely available for most people, but I'm totally okay with her getting it.

I agree - especially if it is a 2nd offense like someone mentioned. I get mistakes happen. FIL went to the airport with a pocket knife because he carried it all the time and it was just habit so he didn’t think to take it out. They confiscated it and he went one his way.

I'm pretty sure forgetting a pocket knife is an extremely common occurrence. I used to keep mine on my keychain. It made it through TSA post-911 once, but I was worried about the return so gave it to my dad who I was visiting and who taught me to always have one, since I didn't want to pay to check a bag.

But a gun? When is that going to help you when you need to unscrew a phillips head (my job at the time this was a weekly occurrence)? Open an amazon package? Emergency pen? Fuck that guy. I'd have said that without the gun stuff. Fuck him six ways to Sunday.
