Everybody get ready to hear more about MD's soon to be ex-governor if you haven't already.
Hogan's been clearly making a social media push to start his national campaign now that he's lame duckin' it as Gov (pre lame duck? Campaigns for his replacement are ramping up, he's term limited), and this morning he's in the freakin' NYT morning email touting him as one of the few R's willing to clearly say that Trump fuckign sucks. *sigh*
He's not awful. I mean, he's awful. But as republicans go, he's not AWFUL. He is, for instance, willing to say with his whole out loud voice that Trump is awful. I've been within a few feet of him and didn't have the urge to punch him in the dick. But like...his policies are stupid and he'd be a DISASTER on climate change. And if he managed to somehow survive the gauntlet of an R primary (he can't...see the "he's not AWFUL" above) I think he'd have a really solid shot to win. The "fiscally conservative, socially liberals" LOVE him, everybody afraid of progressive policies loves him, pantsuit haters probably love him. bleh.

Yeah, don't love him, but do file him in the "meh, could be worse" camp. Definitely will be interesting to see how he fares in the marathon of crazy that is the national GOP primary process.

Doug Mastriano, a far-right Republican state senator who marched (and funded buses) on the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, wants an abortion ban with no exceptions whatsoever, and is as a leading denier of the 2020 election results, won his the GOP nomination for governor of PA.
Mastriano is seen as the weakest possible opponent against Shapiro.
Thank god.
I’ve seen people pre-emptively joking about congratulating Shapiro. I don’t want to tempt fate because I’m sure it will be closer than I’m comfortable with, but there’s no way I can continue living in this state with a Republican governor. Someone needs to stand up to the legislature.

I understand. None of us can let our guard down. (Just returned to live in Michigan from TX). I wasn’t finding much about Shapiro and I just wanted to hear he was electable. Nothing should be taken for granted.

UK inflation soared to 9% in April – its highest level for more than 40 years – as the rising cost of gas and electricity pushed household energy bills to record levels.
The escalating cost of food and transport also contributed to the rising cost of living, deepening the crisis affecting millions of low and middle-income families.
The latest data from the consumer prices index shows a marked increase from March, when the rate was 7%, and February, when it was 6.2%. It will fuel demands for the chancellor to step up help for the most vulnerable with a new package of support.
Tory MPs have been accused of siding with ‘profiteering oil and gas companies’ after voting down a windfall tax that Labour says could save struggling families £600 this year.
The opposition party tabled an amendment to the Queen’s Speech backing a one-off levy on North Sea firms to help people who have been plunged into poverty amid the cost of living crisis.
But MPs rejected the move by 310 votes to 248.
And...(this is an article from only one area of England...I could post dozens)
I am in a very privileged position that this won't impact me in the way it would have 20 years ago. And so I'm trying to do my part in helping others. Knowing that 20 years ago, I could have been in those food banks and freaking out about how to pay for things. God, I can't even imagine the hubris of the Tories.

He's a decent guy -- he vocally opposed Trump's travel ban, went after for-profit universities and their predatory loan practices, supports legalizing marijuana for recreational use, and continued the previous D.A.'s investigation of abuse of children by the Catholic church.
He's running on a platform of protecting voting rights, protecting abortion rights, and raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour.
He's faced criticism from some progressives because of his support for capital punishment for heinous crimes, his public feuds with Philadelphia D.A. Larry Krasner, and his work with police unions, but hopefully none of that would make people feel they couldn't vote for him.
Remember this, the line that Cawthorn crossed for the GOP was talking about about the drug orgies.
Not the treason or insider trading. Not being pro-Putin, not the multiple credible accusations of sexual assault, not being a transphobe or a homophobe, not being anti America, not being a Chriso-fascist or just an in general jerk... He was not voted in, attacked from his own party (see Tillis) because he said that they had cocaine fueled orgies. THAT was the only behavior they saw as going too far.
WASHINGTON - Donald Trump-style Republicans in more than 30 states are pushing new laws that basically would make it easier for them to steal future elections, according to a new report provided to USA TODAY by a group of voting rights organizations.
"This trend increases the risk of a crisis in which the outcome of an election could be decided contrary to the will of the people," said the report compiled by three organizations: States United Democracy Center, Protect Democracy, and Law Forward.
Victoria Bassetti, a senior adviser with the States United Democracy Center and one of the authors of the report, described the efforts as "election subversion," and called the idea a "new and dangerous attack on democracy."
With 50 proposals passed since the organizations started tracking them at the start of 2021, Bassetti said that "systematic election subversion like we have found is really new."
But Elise Stefanik turned that definition on its head. The third-ranking Republican in the House of Representatives tweeted that “The White House, House Dems, & usual pedo grifters” are out of touch because they are okay with “sending pallets of formula to the southern border.”
This was an intriguing accusation. Stefanik seemed to be arguing that Democratic pedophiles wanted to make sure that immigrant children don’t starve. My initial interpretation of that attack was that Stefanik thought that Palletgate was part of Democrats’ secret grooming effort. She seemed to be suggesting the libs wanted to feed the immigrant children for selfish purposes. Maybe in the hopes that when these immigrant children grow up they will repay the favor by becoming nonbinary predators. Or perhaps, as Stefanik has argued before, she was worried that these undocumented immigrant children will grow up to “replace” the God-fearing, salt-of-the-earth natives who vote Republican.
But when pressed on what she meant in her accusation, Stefanik’s office offered a different interpretation: They claimed that the “pedos” Stefanik was referring to were children. And that the Democrats were grifting on their behalf. Hence “pedo grifter.”

Stefanik's such a piece of shit. i wish it was her seat that was eliminated in the redistricting.
