Everybody get ready to hear more about MD's soon to be ex-governor if you haven't already.

Hogan's been clearly making a social media push to start his national campaign now that he's lame duckin' it as Gov (pre lame duck? Campaigns for his replacement are ramping up, he's term limited), and this morning he's in the freakin' NYT morning email touting him as one of the few R's willing to clearly say that Trump fuckign sucks.  *sigh*

He's not awful.  I mean, he's awful.  But as republicans go, he's not AWFUL.  He is, for instance, willing to say with his whole out loud voice that Trump is awful.  I've been within a few feet of him and didn't have the urge to punch him in the dick.  But like...his policies are stupid and he'd be a DISASTER on climate change.  And if he managed to somehow survive the gauntlet of an R primary (he can't...see the "he's not AWFUL" above) I think he'd have a really solid shot to win. The "fiscally conservative, socially liberals" LOVE him, everybody afraid of progressive policies loves him, pantsuit haters probably love him.  bleh.

Yeah, don't love him, but do file him in the "meh, could be worse" camp. Definitely will be interesting to see how he fares in the marathon of crazy that is the national GOP primary process.

I’ve seen people pre-emptively joking about congratulating Shapiro. I don’t want to tempt fate because I’m sure it will be closer than I’m comfortable with, but there’s no way I can continue living in this state with a Republican governor. Someone needs to stand up to the legislature.

I understand. None of us can let our guard down. (Just returned to live in Michigan from TX). I wasn’t finding much about Shapiro and I just wanted to hear he was electable. Nothing should be taken for granted.

UK inflation soared to 9% in April – its highest level for more than 40 years – as the rising cost of gas and electricity pushed household energy bills to record levels.

He's a decent guy -- he vocally opposed Trump's travel ban, went after for-profit universities and their predatory loan practices, supports legalizing marijuana for recreational use, and continued the previous D.A.'s investigation of abuse of children by the Catholic church.

He's running on a platform of protecting voting rights, protecting abortion rights, and raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour.

He's faced criticism from some progressives because of his support for capital punishment for heinous crimes, his public feuds with Philadelphia D.A. Larry Krasner, and his work with police unions, but hopefully none of that would make people feel they couldn't vote for him.

WASHINGTON - Donald Trump-style Republicans in more than 30 states are pushing new laws that basically would make it easier for them to steal future elections, according to a new report provided to USA TODAY by a group of voting rights organizations.

"This trend increases the risk of a crisis in which the outcome of an election could be decided contrary to the will of the people," said the report compiled by three organizations: States United Democracy Center, Protect Democracy, and Law Forward.

Victoria Bassetti, a senior adviser with the States United Democracy Center and one of the authors of the report, described the efforts as "election subversion," and called the idea a "new and dangerous attack on democracy."

With 50 proposals passed since the organizations started tracking them at the start of 2021, Bassetti said that "systematic election subversion like we have found is really new."

This was an intriguing accusation. Stefanik seemed to be arguing that Democratic pedophiles wanted to make sure that immigrant children don’t starve. My initial interpretation of that attack was that Stefanik thought that Palletgate was part of Democrats’ secret grooming effort. She seemed to be suggesting the libs wanted to feed the immigrant children for selfish purposes. Maybe in the hopes that when these immigrant children grow up they will repay the favor by becoming nonbinary predators. Or perhaps, as Stefanik has argued before, she was worried that these undocumented immigrant children will grow up to “replace” the God-fearing, salt-of-the-earth natives who vote Republican.

But when pressed on what she meant in her accusation, Stefanik’s office offered a different interpretation: They claimed that the “pedos” Stefanik was referring to were children. And that the Democrats were grifting on their behalf. Hence “pedo grifter.”
