Someone posted online yesterday that when the 2nd Amendment was written, the writers had muskets in mind that shot 2 to 3 times a minute and that they would not have been able to fathom an AR-15 that shoots 20 to 45 bullets per minute. A musket and an AR-15 both governed by the same Amendment, it's just absurd.
Yes. If SCOTUS were to take the same approach they have in other cases involving things they don’t like, they would say that we have to give “arms” thr meaning it had at the time of the founding fathers - which would guarantee your right to own a musket and maybe reasonably foreseeable weapon inventions but not an AR-15.
So….if he was barricaded/locked inside the two adjoining classrooms, then how is it that LEOs couldn’t approach the classroom because he was shooting at them? I can’t picture it. Was there some kind of window in the locked door that he was shooting through?
I'm thinking when they tried to go in, he shot at the door.
Other reports indicated someone (a LEO?) knocked on the door and asked, "Do you need help?" A kid who was hiding said yes, and the shooter shot them. Other kids hiding under the tablecloth silently witnessed and reported this.
I keep thinking of Abbott in his press conference, "it could have been worse." Fuck you you fucking fuck.

I know this is petty. But why would they ask that question when the attacker was still alive in the room(s)? It seems to go against common training by drawing attention to victims. And it’s also a stupid fucking questions of course they need fucking help.

Literally, the only people who didn’t seem to have any active shooter preparation training were these police.

Another petty issue I have:
I am so sick and tired of seeing the talking heads and politicians thanking and calling LEO heroes and not acknowledging the teachers as heroes who jumped in front of their kids and gave their lives trying to protecting these children.

Seriously. Those motherfuckers did nothing and two teachers died trying to shield kids. But sure, cops are the heroes 😡
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”

It sound like Uvalde police is an extremely small unit (maybe even in the single-digits), and I would expect CBP to necessarily be well-trained in active shooter tactics.
PDQ: I have limited experience with this, but I have actually been involved in 2 active shooter situations (neither was I in any immediate danger) — in one case several LEO agencies responded and the coordination was horrible because they’d never trained together. The communication was awful, and it’s a miracle that no LEOs or bystanders were killed. The second involved two LEO agencies who had trained for active shooter together and their response was swift and effective.
So, this seems like a case similar to the first instance, where the agencies weren’t well-trained and the people directing the response didn’t know what they were doing.

Yeah they’re back to being heroes until the next school board meeting about CRT or the next time they ask for collective bargaining rights.

If more info comes out in the final report along these lines, you know what the GOP talking points are going to be, right? It wasn’t a gun issue or a mental health issue - it was because police departments are underfunded and overworked. They need even more funding than they already have. That’s what we need to do to solve this problem.

I’m seeing reports that during the 90mins it took to finally stop him that police in fact did go in but to bring their own kids out to safety before they tried to stop the massacre in that room.

I don’t think this is petty at all. I’m super WTF about a supposedly trained officer asking kids to call out when there’s an active shooter. There is blood on that asshole’s hands.
Of course a 10 year old is going to think it’s safe to respond to a LEO. Jesus. This isn’t petty, it’s a major, lethal error.

And for the people who want to arm teacher I am just confused because they don’t trust us to choose curriculum, comfort children in crisis, or even teach in general….but they will trust us with firearms and protecting lives.

the video of a cop himself saying it on the news is all over

And I have 100% confidence that the Mayor will do everything he can to ensure that nothing happens to anyone there based on his actions during that press conference. I guarantee he will be saying they all were brave and did their jobs well.

1:16 in where he brushes over that LEO did go in to take their own children off campus.

Seems like basic training to secure the area before having people reveal their location
Was it confirmed that a cop asked that question or did the shooter as a way to find kids?
According to a 4th grader who survived, police came in to a class and said "Yell if you need help." When a child said "help," the shooter entered the room and killed the child.

Between that and the EMT who was treating a girl and found out she was next to his daughter when she died, these stories are just too much. There's more to it so you can read if you want. But it's a gut punch.

I am a teacher. I am a mom. My friend lives in Uvalde and I spent a chunk of that afternoon not sure which school my friend’s child attends. Every time I read a FB post from her I sob. Today we had a ton of parents in our school for end of the year activities and it stressed me out more than it ever has before.
I don't truly don't understand why police and police unions aren't for gun control.
I mean, unless it's for racist reasons...
I know, right? If I was a law enforcement officer, I’d feel way safer at every traffic stop and every domestic violence call and every public disturbance knowing that the people there weren’t likely to be armed with deadly weapons.
